Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the answers to several of the questions that I hear all the time from players. If you would like a question added to this list, please post about it on the discussion page.
When is the release date for Guild Wars 2?
A: "When it's done." ;-) We haven't announced a release date yet, but when we do, it will be on the official website. If you don’t see it on the official website, then it is not an official release date. Many online retailers have started listing estimated release dates – these do not come from any official sources, and should not be taken as an indication of official information.
When will we get more Guild Wars 2 information, screen shots, videos, concept art, etc.?
A: The studio is working really hard on Guild Wars 2. We hope to be able to share more information this year.
Are you going to be at [convention]?
A: When we’re ready to share information about our convention appearances, it will be announced on the official website.
I would like to make a design suggestion or recommendation for GW1 or GW2.
A: We'd love to read them! Please take a look at the Feedback Portal for information on how to submit suggestions for GW1. Please remember that "ArenaNet staff will not be able to read and comment on every suggestion (in this [feedback] namespace or elsewhere). ArenaNet staff will only be able to participate on the wiki during their own private time."
How do I get my event, article, guide, tool, or other community-related information posted on the Community News section of the official Guild Wars website?
A: Please send the following information to community@arena.net:
- * Event name/title
- * Organizing guild, alliance, and/or player
- * Location of the event
- * Date, time, time zone (time zone is really important! :-))
- * Event description/details (no more than roughly 175 words)
- * Link to your event web page (wiki page, web page, forum post, blog post, etc.)
Things to be aware of:
- * We localize into 5 other languages besides English. This takes time, so please keep this in mind when submitting your news.
- * We prefer to publish multiple items at the same time, so to be sure your event will be posted in time, please submit it with plenty of time in advance.
- * We generally publish on a Thursday or a Friday, generally once a month, but more if we have more content.
We get hundreds of messages every single week. To help us in spotting your message more quickly and to organize our inboxes, please title your email with the subject: "[Community News] Title of Your Event". A lot of email gets put into the spam folder, and while we do check the spam folder, sometimes the subjects are not recognizable enough for us to take notice.
I don't agree with a Skill change or Skill balance update and I would like to let you know how I feel about it.
A: Please discuss these issues on the fansite forums, where our community managers and other staff are also tracking and monitoring the discussions or in the Skill feedback section. You can also send us a message at community@arena.net to send us your comments directly.
I don’t agree with a design or other type of decision or with the direction the game is going and I would like to let you know how I feel about it.
A: If you would like to comment on GW1 design issues, please see Linsey Murdock’s page for guidelines on how to comment on these issues. You can also discuss general game issues on our fansite forums, where our community managers and other staff are also tracking discussions. Please also feel free to send us an email at community@arena.net if you prefer to give your comments directly to us.
What is the best way to do [Missions, Quests, PvP, Vanquishing, Cartographer, LDoA, etc.] in-game?
A: The best advice for these types of questions will come from fellow fans like yourselves. :-) First try searching for the appropriate article here by entering the mission name in the search box. The Help:Ask a game question page is another good place to ask. If you don't find the answers you are looking for on the wiki, a lot of our fansites have created very comprehensive how-to guides and the forums provide a great place to ask for advice and details about any difficulties you’re having with any of the in-game content such as Quests or completing Titles.
I found a bug in the game and I would like to report it.
A: Please check the bug report pages to see whether that bug has been submitted. If it is a new bug, please follow the instructions on the appropriate bug report page to submit it to our QA Team.
On what date and/or at what time can we expect maintenance/content update?
A: We do not have a published schedule for monthly maintenance updates, so we can’t provide you with a specific date or time that the update will be coming. Maintenance updates may include bug fixes, skill updates, Tonic updates, and Tournament Reward Point distribution.
The less frequent content updates are handled a little differently, and if we do announce a release date, you can find out about it on the official website. Content updates contain more sizeable updates that are beyond the scope of a monthly maintenance update. An example of a content update is the April Anniversary Content Update.
I have a problem with Xunlai Tournament House and my Tournament Reward Points, can you help me?
A: For account issues, please contact our Customer Support team. Also see Gaile Gray's FAQ for more information.
My account got banned or blocked, but I didn’t do anything wrong. How can I get it unblocked?
A: For account issues related to account terminations or blocks, please contact our Customer Support team.
I want to report someone for selling/buying gold, match manipulation, abusive behavior, inappropriate name, or any other in-game Rules of Conduct issue.
A: Please contact Customer Support and submit a support ticket to inform them of these activities so our Customer Support team can start an investigation.
My connection is lagging and I keep getting disconnected. I think it is because of a problem with your servers.
A: Please contact our Customer Support team for help with your connection. To pinpoint what the problem is, our Support Team needs information about your connection which they can then use to look into the problem. There may be problems with your ISP or elsewhere on the internet between your computer’s connection to the game and our game servers. Many times connectivity problems arise because of issues with a network peering company. A network peer is a company through which data travels on the internet. If there are problems with a network peer, this causes problems not only with games, but also any other types of data that travels through that peer.
When are you holding your next in-game chat?
A: In general, public in-game chats are reserved for occasions when the Community Team as a whole has something substantial to share or discuss. For instance, to answer questions about major content updates and the like. Because Districts fill up very quickly when we make in-game public appearances, public in-game chats are generally not announced ahead of time. You may see breaking news of our next in-game chat on our Twitter when it happens, though. :-)
I would like to give you [in-game item]. Let’s meet in-game so I can give you a gift! :-)
A: Thank you so much for your generosity! Unfortunately, I can’t accept your present. I have a policy of not accepting any items or gold from players, so that I can avoid issues related to conflict of interest and player favoritism. This is a very common practice for employees in many leading MMORPG companies.
Of course, if you would like to show your appreciation for the company as a whole, we love getting fan mail. :-)
How do I get into the videogame industry?
A: The answer to this very much depends on your own personal and individual circumstances. There are a lot of different ways to get into the videogame industry, and many of them are unconventional. A good start for more information and to do some research and networking is GameCareerGuide.com or the International Game Developers Association.
Do you have any advice for people who want to get into the videogame industry?
A: Being a fan and passionate about games is fantastic, but passion is not enough. Companies will of course love that their employees are passionate gamers, but having the right skills is the most important thing. For whatever industry job you’d like to get, you need relevant skills and experience. Networking with people in the industry, or people who want to get in, is also very helpful.
How do I get a job at ArenaNet?
A: Please look at our website for a list of open positions. If you see a position that you are qualified for, please follow the instructions to apply. Good luck!
How can I set up a visit to ArenaNet?
A: We’re sorry, but due to confidentiality and other business-related issues, our office is not open for tours to the public.
Where do you post?
A: Like the rest of the Community Team, the primary focus is on the larger and more active fansite forums for our respective languages. In English, these are Guild Wars Guru and the Unofficial Guild Wars site at IncGamers. I also keep an eye on several smaller fansite forums, as well as here on the official wiki.
I'm also active on Twitter accounts we have for ArenaNet, Guild Wars, and Guild Wars 2.
Can I add you on [social networking site]?
A: My social networking accounts are for my own personal use, rather than for work, so unless I know someone personally or have some kind of personal friendship with them, I generally will not add them to Facebook, etc.
Any accounts you see listed on this page, I use for work, so of course you can add me to those. :-)
On which social networks does ArenaNet and Guild Wars participate?
A: This is where we have official accounts:
- ArenaNet Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ArenaNetInc
- Guild Wars Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/GuildWars
- Guild Wars 2 Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2
- Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/arenanet/
- ArenaNet Twitter: http://twitter.com/arenanet
- Guild Wars Twitter: http://twitter.com/guildwars
- Guild Wars 2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/guildwars2
- YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/arenanetofficial
Any account not on this list is not run or managed by us and is not official.
I have more questions or I would like to speak to you personally. How can I contact you?
A: You can contact the entire Community Team at community@arena.net.
You can also get in touch with me personally via instant messenger on MSN sight_beyond_sight@hotmail.com (please note that I do not check email at that addy) or Xfire at brin5t4r. If you speak to me on IM, please keep in mind that I am at work and may not reply immediately. I’m always happy to have a chat to anyone though, so please don’t be shy. :-)
You can also send me a private message on the following fansite forums: Guild Wars Guru, Presearing Community, and the Unofficial Guild Wars site at IncGamers.
In-game, I use the following characters to chat to players: Regina Buenaobra, Regina Buenaobra I, Regina B Pre.
