guild wars auto GL designation[edit]

moved from User Talk:Gaile Gray

i went afk for a few months to take a break, i told my guild that and all the active people left, i thot oh well ill get more people if i care that much, but oh wait?? whats this??? im not the leader anymore, i look at it and its a guy that has been inactive for longer than ive been afk, i mean WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?! me and him are the only ones left after everyone else and he hasnt logged on in 5 friggin months... when was this feature added? why and for what reasons? and the biggest question, can i ever become the guild leader again without having to wait for him to log in? (note: i dont know him in real life or have his phone number or remember who he is,) P.S. i dont think this a very fair feature i expected to lose all members but not lose leadership alltogether, in the game it even says designated leader by guild wars...) HELP!!72.244.62.30 04:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

1. Calm down. 2. She can't help you. 3. Don't sware. I dont now when it was introduced but its there so people who leave gw as a guild leader get bumped so people in the guild can have the spot and save the guild. -DominatorMatrix- 05:26, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

The feature has been there for quite some time already, i myself went afk as GL and was away for a year or so. you will automatically get guild leader again once the current guild leader has been inactive for long enough. i don't remember exactly how long that time is tho but it should say somewhere in this wiki if im not mistaken, or the old wiki. or maybe i found it on the GW support site...oh well :) -ArcticWind User:ArcticWind 09:17, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I found this in GW support: "In cases where the guild leader has not logged in for 60 days or more, that guild leader will be auto-replaced with an officer—the officer who has been on the guild roster for the longest period of time. If the guild has no officers, the system will auto-select a member instead—the member who has been on the guild roster for the longest period of time. Simultaneously, the absent guild leader will be auto-demoted to officer status. (Note: Any character that has not logged on for 60 days or more is ineligible for auto-promotion to guild leader.)" does that help? :) -ArcticWind User:ArcticWind 09:22, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Sounds like you should write to support about your situation. They might be able to do something about it. - User Nian Sig.png nian 18:00, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm... sounds like cause you were offline for over 60 days you're now ineligible to re-auto promoted thus why you're stuck where you are. My tip is to restart the guild, could be ALOT easier and ultimately its a completely fair mechanic. I have a second account that i hardly use but i still log into it every month so that it stays GL of the guild its in. -- Salome User salome sig.png 18:34, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
this does help some but this guy has been afk for about 5 months now, and the thing that arctic wind makes sense but me and him are the only guys left :[, and it auto designates him? and i allready sent and email to support and no reply yet but im hopin i will get one soon. and the biggest reason i want GL status back is cuz ive been in this guild for about 2 years now, and ive risen from member to officer to GL and i rebuilt it up to about 80+ members from no members almost 6 times now, it was once in the alliance that owned cavalon for a short period of time, this guild was my heart and soul, and its really upsetting. Dark Oblyvaeon was one of the first guilds ever made (somewhere in the first 100) and well i cant restart it, it wouldnt be the same, :/72.244.62.30 19:09, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Now that you've logged back in, if the current leader doesn't log in for sixty days, you should get GL status back. —Tanaric 19:37, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Anet needs to implement a mechanic that re-appoints the original leader (original player who used the sigil to purchase the guild) in times like this, would save a lot of fuss. This would need adjusting if the original leader leaves the Guild roster and appoints an officer as leader, then the Guild would be that person's and the mechanism would show this. If demoted (down to inactivity) the original guild creator would exist within a safety mechanic that would stop the auto-appointed leader or an officer from kicking them. Guild leadership should never been allowed to be auto-appointed. House Of Furyan 23:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I think in the cases of auto-demotion you should be able to be re-instated after contacting support. However it isn't the case as same thing happened to friend of mine who was on holiday visiting gw friends. He lost his whole guild as the guy who was leader wouldn't let him be leader and he didn't want to stay in guild that wasn't his, even though should be his.--Dan Mocha 00:02, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I know we need a mechanic to boot guild leaders when they have been gone for those 60 days precisely becuse otherwise the guild is held hostage to an absentee leader. On the other hand, I understand your situation. As suggested earlier, it seems that if Support is unable to help, you will regain leadership in less than 60 days. I realize that's not a perfect answer, but it is part of the larger system that is devised to keep leadership options flexible and assure they are not "forever" situations, which would not be in the best interests of the group. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 07:03, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

well i managed to get a hold of the leader he logs back on and disbands the guild, so right now im out of a guild ive been with forever and the other leader was a complete ...... and i got a reply from support saying this is an automated system and we cant do anything at this current point in time72.244.62.30 07:49, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
This has to be one of the worst "features" I've ever heard of. I'm a leader of a guild and if I take a break, when I come back I expect to still be the guild leader no matter what. I do not want anyone else running my guild, even if I do take a break. Thankfully this "feature" has never happened to me. An example situation would be beneficial in the Guild Leader description. - Tarun 19:44, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Has this feature been removed from the game? I haven't heard anything about it for quite some time. Firil Srein 18:05, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Moral of the Story is if your going to take a break Kick out all the people you don't trust to hand over the riegns when you get back. Very Bad feature IMO. If the guild leader is gone and you feel like your being held hostage then go start your own guild.24.251.55.96 15:10, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Movement to guild leader[edit]

Well, I forgot to place a discuss xD. How about moving the page in to lower-case name? It's not a name, and it's linked as guild leader in most pages. Then, the Guild Leader won't be needed anymore, but the remaining links should be corrected. What do you think, and who'll make it :)? —Faalagorn/ 00:28, 30 May 2009 (UTC).

I would have tried doing it earlier myself, since the formatting rules would suggest the lowercase name, but the target has some (trivial) edit history so I think sysop will have to displace it. --Star Weaver 00:33, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Speaking of which, I know noticed that on 19:39, 19 June 2007, user Jason moved the page from there to here :S... —Faalagorn/ 00:38, 30 May 2009 (UTC).
Oookay, confirmed it will not let me move it, I just flagged the other page R5 for speedy, so this can be sorted out. And no, promotion to leader is instant and involuntary on the promoted party's end. You have a phone in your sig. O_O. --Star Weaver 00:53, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
<offtopic>Yes, the phone is the idea I awfully copied from a person from other wiki xD. Unicode FTW! Other cool stuff include ☃, ☠, ☢, ☣, ☭, ♖ and so on :P</offtopic> —Faalagorn/ 01:21, 30 May 2009 (UTC).
Please look at the Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Article names. If anything, this would be moved to Guild leader based on formatting guideline, with a redirect to guild leader. Mainspace articles should never be titled in all lower case, and I don't believe you will find any others on the wiki. The reason it links most often to the lower case version is due to mentions within other articles that don't come at the beginning of a sentence. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:31, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Also, on a side note, the Media Wiki doesn't see all lower case article names, so if you search for guild leader, or link guild leader it automatically takes you to Guild leader without a redirect (a fact I just found out). --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 03:46, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I just got lazy about typing it when I saw "Preferred: Rune trader OR rune trader." Thanks for cleaning stuff up over here though, Wyns! --Star Weaver 15:15, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that's true. Mediawiki doesn't sees the difference between uppercase and lowercase in the first letter, however the Wikipedia's is using a plugin/template allowing certain page names to be showed in lowercacse. That's only used for a names that HAVE to be written lowercase, such as eBay (w:EBay/w:eBay) or iPod (w:IPod/w:iPod , but not freeware (w:Freeware/w:freeware). It was using javascript AFAIR. see w:Wikipedia:Naming conventions (technical_restrictions)#Lowe case first letterFaalagorn/ 19:53, 30 May 2009 (UTC).

Wish List[edit]

Too bad beging a guild leader doesn't really mean anything. Sure, you can promote your buddies to officers and all but still...wouldn't it be nice, for example, if guild leaders got 1gp from every pile of gold picked up by a guild member? How about the guild leader getting a 1gp kickback from the various NPC's in the guildhall whenever a transaction is made? There could also be a guild leader title track where the GL gains points every time a guild member maxes out a title, gets a new level in a title, or maybe even for having all possible titles represented in the guild membership (thus encouraging guild leaders to help out their members and play cooperatively). The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.96.85.155 (talk) at 22:36, 24 September 2010 (UTC).

There was a title like that in s4 League. It was abused so hard. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 22:44, 24 Sep 2010 (UTC)
I'd prefer the posibility to appoint more than one leader, customize ranks/powers and spread some deomocracy in the dictatorship that guilds are--87.221.67.42 13:47, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

The only member[edit]

Question... If you are the ONLY member in your guild, for whatever reason... WHAT happens then?67.253.35.6 23:01, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Well you're definitely a leader if you're the only one... you could disband or invite more players like any other leader could. -Chieftain Alex 23:14, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

How often can another guild leader be designated?[edit]

How often can guild leadership be transferred between different players? Is there a "cooldown" or a maximum number of times in a certain duration? --175.144.84.192 19:24, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

There may be an exceedingly small internal cooldown so that information across the server is properly updated, but this is such an extreme case that it can really only be answered by testing on the live server; Find a friend a friend and let us know! G R E E N E R 21:47, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
