Display accomplishments in guild hall(Discussion)
If a guild is composed of its members, so too should the hall be be composed of and showcase its' members accomplishments. One simple way to do this is to provide each guildie their own "room" which would resemble an alcove displaying their significant accomplishments, trophies or titles. Each alcove would have a doorway which the player could mark as "open" "open to guild" or "closed." This would regulate the visibility of the contents of the room. Access to each room's contents would only be permitted for the player, of course.
As players join the guild, rooms would be added together along halls radiating from the central guild area. There would be an officer's hallway, and one or two halls for members. These hallways could grow as long as needed for larger guilds. Moreover, rooms could be ranked by either age of the membership, size of the accomplishments, or other criteria, possibly determined by the guild. It seems likely that the more accomplished players will be closer to the center, while newer guildies or less accomplished players will be farther out, probably with their doors closed until they feel comfortable showing their deeds.
If you really want to get creative, each room could be account-based, but multi-faceted, meaning it could be "rotated" in place to show different characters with their respective accomplishments. Extending this idea further, since not all characters are going to be developed to the same degree, each character might have the door open or closed, meaning you might show off your primary and secondary characters, but keep your developing characters under wraps.
This approach would be useful for several reasons. First, it's nice for your guildies to be able to see your accomplishments at any time without having you form a party and take them into the Hall of Monuments. Second, it could be very beneficial for recruiting. What good does a guest pass do if some or all of the best players are away and can't show off? This way, a guest could look around and get an idea of the skill, achievments, and size of the guild before they sign on. Third, it fosters guild connections and familiarity if you can go see your guildies' favorite characters and preferred accomplishments. Fourth, and again, this is pushing the boundaries a bit, perhaps there shouldn't be guest passes at all. Perhaps people should be free to visit any guild they are impressed by, take a look around and see what they think. As things are, most players have no idea what other guilds actually look like or how accomplished other players might actually be. It seems likely that this approach would really showcase players and characters who accomplish great deeds and encourage newer players to rise to the same heights.
Finally, the same approach could be used for guild-wide accomplishments or titles. These could result in flags or standards being displayed, victory statues or more. If the public is allowed to access the guild halls freely, then it seems very likely guilds will attempt to obtain these prestige items and invest the time, attention, and platinum necessary for the same.
Why it might not work out
- Guild-wide hall of monuments. Pointless waste of time and space.
