Elite armor with additional benefits (Discussion)
Elite Armor should be "Elite" rather than just having a different skin and costing exuberant amounts of gold and resources. Perhaps it could have an extra 5 or 10 armor class more than the maximum non-elite armor, or even the possibility of an extra rune and/or insignia slot.
- Why this is a good idea
- It would give people something to be proud of and would actually be useful rather than just being a symolic status of your wealth.
- A long time ago, guild wars let elite armor give you extra health, extra energy, and extra armor, But then they came out with runes. I think they should make runes extinct but keep the thing in pvp that lets you customize your armor like as if it were for testing builds.
- Why it may not work out
- It may not possibly work with having 2 rune/insignia slots as it may overpower the dynamics of the game by making people with elite armor TOO powerful.
- It goes against the idea of balanced play - such armour couldn't be worn in PvP for instance.
- It adds grind to the game - today, farming for an "elite" armor is just a matter of seeking better looks. If such armors were more poweful, players would have to farm in order to avoid being weaker than the others.
- It would create player discrimination - users with "elite" armor would be able to find parties easier than users with common armor. We would often see "GLF more - must have Elite armor".
- It goes against the "skill > time" theme - bad players who grind a lot would be more powerful than good players who don't spend as much time grinding.
- We would end with less aesthetic options - today, someone who likes the looks of common armors over elite armors may just wear the armors he/she enjoys the most. If different armor looks had better/worse stats, everyone would aim to wear the armor with better stats.
Elite Armor (Discussion)
On Guild wars elite armor is so expensive, and then when you add rare dyes (Black/White) that most people want on them it costs a fortune. Sure elite armor has to be different but the game isnt all about making money and then spending it in one go. Players in Guild wars 2 should be able to buy normal armor and complete elite or special missions to get it upgraded. You may have to pay a armor upgrader an upfront fee (not dear maybe 10k or so) on a mission bonus to get it upgraded or pay less and get items from some missions and quests. Each armor may need different items or people to go to to get the upgrade. Looks also shouldnt be the only factor. Maybe add more armor for wariors and more energy for elementaists.
- Why this is a good idea
- Elite armor would be easier to get but more unique as people with lots of money will have to wait to get through the game rather than buying it on there new characters with some of there millions.
- Could be nice to have a limited number of elite armors availlable in alternative ways, while keeping a class of true elite armors for the 'hardcore' players.
- Why it may not work out
- Takes away one of the long-term 'projects' for the more active players.
- Takes away the 'elite' aspect since it's no longer special.
- Extra bonusses on elite armor makes normal armor un-maxed, thus taking away the purpose of elite armor - that's a seperate topic I'd say.
- Cheaper and hardor to obtain armor would be less effective as a gold sink.
- Making non-elite armor sub-optimal would reduces appearance customization options.
- Elite armor being more exspensive than "normal" armor is the whole point, its a status symbol. Like the difference between a chevrolet tahoe or a cadillac escalade, one has finer details but its the same frame and body.
