Larger guild size (Discussion)
Is there a particular reason why guilds are limited to 100 people? There seem to be several advantages to having a larger maximum capacity. Perhaps there shouldn't be a max cap at all. It would then be up to each guild to determine the number of members that best suits them.
- Why this is a good idea
- Larger guild = the option of greater diversity of people.
- With a 100-member capacity, it's not practical to meet the needs of players from all timezones -- you really do have to concentrate on having just Americans, or just Australians, or just Europeans, etc.
- With a 100-member maximum, to keep a guild active, it's desirable to have a two-week kicking rule. But this often forces officers to make difficult decisions -- kicking old friends, or kicking people who might come back, etc.
- There are a number of guilds (like Charter Vanguard) that have found the need to separate into more than one guild, although it would presmably be more convenient if they stayed in the same grouping.
- Larger guild = larger pool of players (in guild or in alliance) to help you when you need help.
- Larger guilds mean that guilds are more well-known (eg the LAZY alliance), and guild membership becomes more meaningful.
- Larger guilds = more scope for a guild to expand into a gaming community that plays across different MMORPGs.
- Why it may not work out
- Larger guilds = larger alliances = so much more craziness and spammage on alliance chat.
- Larger guilds = particular guilds become more powerful, and may have more of a monopoly on the game and on recruitment (they'd have more people recruiting, for instance).
