Same functionality, different lore (Discussion)
Back when I first played GW, something that impressed me were the creative names for the different professions with the different enemies fought. It wasn't "Forgotten Elementalist" or "Centaur Monk", but Arcanist and Lifeband. Gave each type of enemy fought their own unique flavour.
Now that alternate races are playable, I'd like to see this sort of thing carried over. Keep all the professions available to members of any race, but change the name and associated lore to make them unique. For example, the human professions (as we know them from OGW) are tied in with the Five Gods. For the Charr, they might be called something different and have lore tied in with the Legions, or the Eternal Alchemy for the Asura. Skills would be shared and usable between each iteration of a profession, just the name would be different. A Human Monk = a Charr Shaman = an Asura Alchemist as far as skills, party role, and proficiency go.
- Why this is a good idea
- Gives a feeling of variety between different races without going the route of professions being exclusive or unavailable to some races.
- Keeps in line with the standard presented by enemy races like Charr already seen.
- Why it may not work out
- Having all professions available to all races might not work from a lore standpoint. If the Dervish class carries over, it'd be hard to rationalize that with the godless Charr.
