Real musical instruments (Discussion)
The musical emotes (/guitar, /drums, etc.) are very nice. In addition, I'd like to see musical instruments (that actually make sound) emulated on the skill bar. It would work similar to the way the Junundu worm or Ursan Blessing replaced your entire skill bar. One instrument per skill bar, so you'd need to play with your friends for the whole band. It would be a version of an iBand instrument for hand-helds simplified to 8 (or however many) skills of the GW skill bar. That conversion to only 8 skills would take some creativity to still represent the range of the instrument. But simplifying would make it accessible to a lot more people. And it's just for fun.
- The number one problem: we'd lose the peace and quiet of popular cites and areas if everyone could bang on their instrument whenever they want--in the same way as Local chat can be filled with nonsense, but we'd have to hear it.
- Possible solutions:
- Add it as an extra channel like "Ambient Noise" or "Music" that can be turned off in Options.
- Ability to disable Local music quickly
- Easy way to mute individuals
- Only hear music from those in your group, guild, etc.
- Attenuate the sound with distance. So the music doesn't travel very far anyway and you can walk away from noise polluters.
- Prohibit music in areas people are required to go.
- Limit the number of instruments allowed in a certain area the way minipets are in towns.
- Have instruments as a reward for a certain quest, or perhaps collectible items.
