Linux (Discussion)
It currently works great under Wine in Ubuntu 7.10 but in 8.04 support for it isn't so good, and it doesn't seem to work well in the 64 bit version of Ubuntu either. It would be nice if there were native Linux support in Guild Wars. It could be made available in .rpm packages for Fedora and such distributions and .deb packages for Ubuntu and other debian based distributions. If we could just get Fedora and Ubuntu I think that would take care of a lot of us.
- Why this is a good idea
- Any time a game is cross-platform, it increases the potential user base.
- Playing through Wine is somewhat OK, but we don't get features such as minimizing and windowed mode. Running natively in Linux would solve these problems.
- Why it may not work out
- Could have problems with some of the lesser known distributions
- OpenGL
- Tons more testing needed for QA team.
- People would have to connect to internet for online on other platforms
- Now it works well even with 64-bit version of Ubuntu
Wii (Discussion)
Have GW2 playable on the Nintendo Wii.
- Why this is a good idea
- It would be by far the easiest to adapt to because of the USB ports in the back and the point and click capabilities of the wiimote. For example, my friend is only allowed to play games on his wii and he really loves guild wars
- Why it may not work out
- Because coding for the Wii is completely different than anything else.
- Have to worry about licensing by Nintendo.
- Online play would be separate from computer online play.
Mac (Discussion)
Provide Macintosh support for GW2 play.
- Why this is a good idea
- Can increase player population
- More people can play with more friends
- Why it may not work out
- You may not be able to make it available to the mac or get the license
- This would mean recoding all of GW2 to support OpenGL.
- May not be cost effective.
- QA Would need to do much more testing for bugs.
- Not all macs run Intel Processors.
