More detailed Target Display (Discussion)
In World of Warcraft, NPCs often display titles and affiliations above their names. Here's a possible example of the line order.
Currently displayed title. Some NPCs display NPC-only titles (such as ranks and NPC services). |
Army / affiliation / guild (can be hidden by players in preferences) |
Account-wide name / nickname / handle (players only, can be hidden by players in preferences) |
Character name |
Sex icon (male, female, both (hermaphrodite, male and female symbols, possible users could include wurms, wind riders and some plant creatures), neither (asexual, perhaps denoted with an X icon or an O with a strikethrough (ø), possible users could include golems and some elementals and plant creatures) or unknown (question mark icon, used by non-humanoid NPCs without obvious dimorphism, such as drakes)) and species / family. |
GW1 style health bar (or health and energy bars for allies) with level, profession icons and name. |
Effects monitor (allies only?). |
Skill monitor. |
Individual lines could be turned off in the display options.
- Why this is a good idea
- Will prevent confusion about whether certain player characters and NPCs (particularly Asura) are male or female.
- Will make it easier to check ally status.
- Will make bounty targets easier to identify.
- NPC titles could add flavour.
- Why it may not work out
- Could be cluttered.
