This idea proposes a map travel system for GW2 as well as some lore to go along with it...
The AGK
The Asuran Gate Krewe (more commonly known as the AGK) is the second oldest Asura krewe in existence and one of the three krewes which make up the Triple Krewe Council (TKC). They have authority to appoint krewes to repair, maintain, and build new Asuran gates throughout the world. They employ members of the Asuran Defense Krewe (ADK) as guards and receive a large portion of their funding from investments made through the Asuran Banking Krewe (ABK). They have placed gates in every city, town, and outpost in Tyria. It is also rumored that they have hidden some gates in distant locations for their own secretive use. Some say they even have some gates located outside of Tyria, but that is considered highly improbable.
Map Travel
To map travel, you have only to buy a passport from the local administrator (for about 100g; he stands right next to the gate) and enter an Asuran gate. When you enter an Asuran gate, the world map comes up and you can select the location to which you wish to travel. This means you can only travel from city to city (or rather from gate to gate, should some of them not be located in settlements). This should slightly increase the number of players in the field for events and such. Use of the gates is free, only the passport costs money (and you need only buy one).
The AGK also maintains a strict usage policy for their gate system to prevent abuse and maintain the balance of power throughout Tyria. To prevent the use of their gates for expeditionary purposes, no one who is not employed by the TKC can use an Asuran gate to travel to any gates they have not already visited. When you enter an Asuran gate that location is automatically added to the list of places you have been. You can also ask the local administrator for his signature as proof of your travels. The AGK makes very few exceptions to this rule, so one must assume that AGK employees (or, more likely, their golems) personally handle the transportation of goods to places like Ebonhawke which cannot be reached by land.
- Why this is a good idea
- Allows map travel while mildly encouraging travel on foot
- Elaborates on the state of affairs in the Asuran nation
- Practical explanation for map travel
- Why it may not work out
- Is a bit organized for the Asura
- Still does not quite force many people to be in the feild at any time
