I’ll only say this: The HoM fix was a must ever since GWEN was released, since the original HoM was and still is an utter failure and cant even scratch the expectations ANet had build up with its announcements prior to GWENs release. The increase in storage space is a consequence that HAD to come with the introduction of all theses books, tonics, consumable sand what not all ANet has thrown in to GW over the past 12 month. To me those are NOT content updates, but long over due fixes! Adding a new god realm, new quest chains, new armours and new weapons etc. THAT’S what I call a content update. And for some time now and with all the PvE Skill I wonder whey ANet never got the idea to add PvE weapons, that are rewards for extremely long lasting new quests. Anyway. With all that said I ask the question: are we or are we not going to see content updates in the matter I just described?? Regards ~Garbaron~ 16 Jan, 2009
- Well, there ARE a significant number of us who think that adding PvE skills, splitting PvP/PvE on already existing skills, consumables, and the like were all huge mistakes in the first place. PvE weapons would be just as bad, if not worse. (And, for the record, I'm not part of the camp that often overlaps with this idea that thinks the game should be absurdly hard and is too easy as it is. I've never touched hard mode, and plan never to. In fact, I really don't do anything in GWEN because it is defacto hard mode as it is. The existence of these things make the game difficulty get ramped up too much, especially for those of us who refuse to acknowledge their horrible being.) --Emkyooess 04:46, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
PvE-Creep
In a „non PvE Skills, non consumables“ GW world I would agree. But since the game is already completely messed up why not take the next step? Adding special PvE weapons and perhaps even PvE armours as quest rewards would add the thing that is missing in GW: character development past level 20 and something worth to work for! GW as an RPG is lame! There are only 20 levels and that’s it. And changing skills in GW to me is no more different then changing skills in any other RPG, it just varies the way I attack, nothing more. Its NOT character development. And watching a title bare grow millimetre by millimetre as I kill the same monster over and over again is NOT character development either, even if the titles strengthen some skills that in themselves can not become stronger then regular skills because of game mechanics.
I have recently begun to play the Runes of Magic Beta and although the game is in an early state and to me mixes WoW with GW, it does make one thing better then GW: your character keeps on getting stronger it grows and changes every time you play it because in addition to rising levels and skill power it has random drops, so you get something better every time. And that’s completely missing in GW. Armour cap and max dmg weapons had their merit when there was no skill split and no PvE Skills and PvE power ups And as I said in an un screwed GW with no PvE stuff in it, I’d be strictly against such changes in GW. But fact is, we HAVE those PvE elements and I see no real reason why not to add PvE equipment other then preventing 1337 players saying it makes GW too easy, since to that response there already is the same answer as to the other PvE stuff: noone is forcing you to use it. But it would add a reason to play again!
For example make 6 long lasting quest chains. Like the Moa chick quest each of them takes you through all chapters. They are not easy to master. They require team work. They are not at a domain of anguish difficulty level. Rather like the fissure of woe. And at the end of each of the quests you get a special piece of armour and a weapon for your profession NOT obtainable otherwise and can only be done once with a character. Weapons and armour should be special in appearance, look a lot better then the regular thing. The pieces would NOT have to have special abilities, although with consumables being in the game why not add a bonus that can be activated say once every 30 minutes or something like that. But with such things ANet COULD add something worth playing for all those ppl who give nothing about boring title grind which is everything that’s left when you are through the story and don’t like to grind for titles. (am talking PvE players not interested in any PvP)
Adding new Quests, new equipment, and perhaps even new areas THAT’S what I’d call “content updates” since it adds CONTENT. But fixing the poorly executed HoM, increasing storage space after adding a great bunch of collectibles and books is NOT adding content! Its fixing overdue developer errors (HoM is a BIG error) and adapting the game to changes done over the past year (consumables, tonics, books etc)!
Oh and to me this sudden change regarding GW1 support politics indicates we will have to wait a lot longer before GW2 shows up! And ANet very well knows interest in GW1 is diminishing since balance and Bug fixing updates just don’t make it anymore. And with the cost free Runes of Magic there is a strong adversary emerging at the horizon. I don’t want to advertise RoM, but it does have some fun in it and it’s for free! Completely! You won’t even have to buy a DVD with the client since even the client is for free download! So how keep bored GW players from leaving the sinking ship? Right. Make an announcement that, all of a sudden and contrary to earlier statements, says there WILL indeed be content updates. Holla. Where did that come from if not form knowing that GW2 is much further up the road then expected and GW1s popularity steadily degreasing??

No basically I said, that GW needs character development that is NOT linked to a higher level cap and definitely EXCLUDES any addition of new title grind linked to PvE skills that can not get stronger then any regular skill.
But character development that centres around stuff like obtaining new special armours and new weapons that can only be accessed by adding new quests that give these special items as rewards and are not obtainable other wise. To that add some new hidden areas that can be discovered while advancing through these new quests and perhaps have new quest rewards.
In stead of title bars creeping up through grind why not give ppl quest that are long lasting and challenging and as a reward special items/armours/weapons? Something useful for a change! Like a weapon that adds a 15% chance of freezing an opponent for 5 seconds? Like an armour set that grand a 20% armour buff to the entire party for 5 minutes when all pieces are collected but can only be activated every 30 minutes? A mage focus that grand’s 5 points of health regeneration every two second for 5 minutes? PvE items that of course can NOT be used in PvP areas and are set to “normal” attributes when entering a PvP area? It would work the exact same way the current PvE stuff works. But would add some REAL new content worth coming back to GW. And I guarantee you: add PvE quest rewards like this to GWs PvE environment, add some new areas and quests and ppl WILL come back to play. - I think you're playing the wrong game if you're talking about pve weapons, armors and all those things linked to timeplayed powercreep. I sincerely hope you enjoy Runes of Magic because Guild Wars obviously isn't the game for you.
- From day one this game has been about skill over time played, both in pvp and pve. It has been diminished a fair bit in pve but to this day it's still within reasonable levels. I'm positive that the core idea of this game is incredibly good, and I hope it carries on to GW2. However we will probably not see you (Garbaron) in GW2 and that's for the best, it's just not your type of game.
- Ever since my epic wastes of time that has been called World of Warcraft I'm disgusted with any form of level or equipment grind. There are many people like me and Guild Wars fills this niche perfectly. If A.Net uses their brain (I'm confident they do) they will stay in this niche and let the epeen guys return to their grind mmo's.

- Fun fact about W.o.W. ...Its original concept started out as a "Narrative" Story type game called Warcraft Adventures before a number of the Blizzard "Elite" running the show became engrossed in games like UO and EverQuest. Right around the time that Blizzard had been acquired by Vivendi (which was already turning into it's own little bowl of sour grapes) and Warcraft3 was looking less than spectacular... Well, it was around that point that their "Elite" had the Brain Fart to sell out and make their own version of Everqueef, Infact they announced it on the forums in those almost exactly terms... I'm not kidding here. I was personally disgusted by it and swore off Blizzard for good. But the real importance of all this though: it was round about that time that some of their top-talent also split-off and created ArenaNet. It was never publicly revealed whether it was b/c of Vivendi's meddling or if it was because of WoW... But there was definitely some irreconcilable differences that led us to point we're at now. And IMHO, Nearly all of these PvE-Loot games with long-grinds are just more Sequels to Everqueef. You could say it's only Stats, or only "Title" that's being drawn out. But either way it's just pandering to people who have more time than "skill". And as someone who always has too much time on his hands, I gotta say I don't appreciate it.
