ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Armor drops from Monsters
I like how you say that you should be able to wear the armor of your slain enemies like a trophy, because that will expand on how we get trophies in GW1, which is just an item that is collectible. Maybe not so much as wearing the armor itself, but it would be cool if you could take a trophy to a crafter so they can make something out of it, like a green! :) (Terra Xin 10:11, 19 June 2008 (UTC))
Ya, that does sound like a good idea. Like, you could craft a head of a monster into a chestplate!--Catforsale344 16:36, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- Honestly, point four pro sounds like a better approach. Or perhaps items that could be "mixed in" to armor when crafting, or just worn in some sort of "decoration" slot; a bardiche, belt, wristband, that sort of thing.
Simply a form of 'green armor' would be nice enough, especially if you need to kill five specific bosses for the set. I would suggest limiting this to hard bosses much like green weapons, as a form of prestige armor. Simply 'customizing' the drop is a solution around the irrational size problem (one could customize/craft an armor out of a nice fur, for instance), and limiting the drops to hard bosses would make sure people need a good crafted armor before ever trying to kill such a boss. If armor is limited to a profession, only a char of that profession should be able to customize it; if not, they should be re-customizable if it looks ugly after all (like having a big steel suit on your sin). If they can be traded, however, might be good to for instance add a level requirement so that it stays at least a bit 'elite'. --Tenshi Samshel 07:30, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
That was acctually my intent, its not like if you kill a random dog you can wear his skull on a belt, thats just barbaric. Only boss should drop these special armor pieces.--Catforsale344 18:21, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
I like this idea very much. Basically it is about to be able receiving a unique armor upgrade. By extent this idea can also be applied to weaponry or any other item in a game. The only possible obstacle I could see that this will require a lot of unique skins to be avaliable and creating and testing those is time consuming work.
Can you explain more about your idea by answering following questions?
- Do you think there should be a slot to which the upgrade will be applied to particular piece of armor so you upgrade piece by piece or you expect to receive new skin for your entire armor (like armor remnants work now), so it is more like customization?
- Once it is applied can it be recovered to be applied to another item? Can it be destroyed in an attempt of recovering?
- If this idea is extended on all in game items, should it be only one type of unique upgrade that could be applied to an item or there could be multiple unique upgrades available i.e. bow string, bow handle (going back to first question about a 'slot' for a unique upgrade)?
So, in summary: what mechanics should be implemented to support this idea?
