ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Real time and environment change

I think the programming wouldn't be that hard, but it wouldn't be nice, if a lot of people (the ones who need to work for a living) could play all the time in the night, for example.

I know a lot people who can only play after work, so it would be not fair to them! - PyroTFD, 09:31, 10 Oct. 2008 (UTC)

What if you would make "real" timezones over the GuildWars world map? I mean, the map SHOULD be spherical, not just a flat piece of land floating there as in some other large MMO game expansion. Like when it's night in Ascalon it is afternoon in Kryta. The "Tyrian" day could last 5 hours or so, to scale it to the world's size. This would make it more fun, like experiencing sunset in Maguuma. At night other monsters could come out, like some animals that hunt in nighttime. This should not apply to missions/instances, if those would exist in GW2, the description would be for instance "You assault the fortress just before dawn", even if other players in an adjacent area play in "evening". Downsides would be the balancing of mobs, not to make some areas a lot easyer/harder during certain times of day, just different. A solution would be that perhaps in day the predators "sleep", and thus dont attack until waken, and at night other mobs "sleep". Please some feedback on what you think of this. The last suggestion is by far the most viable. I might point out that other games have utilized a night and day concept (see Tabula Rasa and Age of Conan), so it must not be that hard to program ;). I wouldn't want seperate content though, as that could prove problematic if you are somewhere when night shifts... do the enemies just randomly appear? what happens if a quest mob only spawns at one time? As for the people who complain that they would only play at one time of the day, fine, make the day faster then 24 hours. After all, Tyria/whatever the world is called isn't earth, why should it have exactly the same times? --Angelic Loki 00:45, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Real Time Moved Discussions

moved from ArenaNet:Guild Wars 2 suggestions

Real time should be simulated in game (i.e., nighttime, daytime), with an ingame clock to keep track of it.

o.O timezones?
A server time would be perfect. Helps with festivals and stuff, its so much easier typing /time or something simple than standing around going "When does it start?" and hearing 12 different responses. Day and Night would be nice but it would have to occur a few times in a day, every few hours transition to a new state otherwise some people, due to timezones, would always be playing in the night if day and night was determined by the server's timezone. 118.92.167.172 08:25, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Day and night cycles need what you have said, they have to occur a few times a day. NCSoft already has other games with this mechanics and they work (for example, in Lineage 2). Maybe for some big events they can change the cycles and make that all the time it's at midnight in Halloween festivities to make a more terrifying environment and to emphasize the special decorations. I'm not saying that if other games have something Guild Wars must have the same, but day-night effects are nice in game.--Geoden 11:47, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
