Category talk:Short name redirects

Isn't this the exact same thing as the abbreviation redirect category? I think these two categories (and corresponding templates) should be merged. Jogden (talk) 02:19, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

There is a techical difference. An abbreviation contains the semantic meaning in a condensed form, while a short name only contains part, but that in an unabbreviated form. An example would be "Prince Rurik" vs "Rurik". The latter contains no information about the princly part.

But since most people wouldn't care about such lingusitc fine points, we could just as well merge. Backsword 23:32, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
