Crafting material
Crafting materials are items that can be used to craft (create) armor, weapons or rare materials in the game. Crafting is a service performed by crafter NPCs to whom you must pay gold and provide the necessary materials.

Acquisition[edit]
Salvage and Loot[edit]
Salvageable items are mostly obtained by killing mobs and opening chests, making Salvage and Loot somewhat interchangeable terms. Crafting materials are most commonly salvaged from weapons, salvage items, and trophies; other sources include rare crafting materials and player armor. Many common crafting materials also drop frequently from certain types of monsters (e.g. Chitin Fragments from devourers); see a particular material's article for details. Some rare crafting materials drop as well, although fewer creatures drop rare materials in Tyria than in Cantha or Elona. Most rare crafting materials can also be obtained from Hidden Treasures.
Material traders and rare material traders[edit]
These NPCs sell crafting materials.
Artisans[edit]
These NPCs can convert common crafting materials and gold into certain rare crafting materials.
Trivia[edit]
- Diamond, Onyx Gemstone, and Spiritwood Plank are the only crafting materials that cannot be used to craft armor.
- Prior to the May 29, 2008 update, some artisans carried a recipe for a rare salvage item Clay Brick; however, there is no record of its common salvage ingredient, Bricks of Mud, ever being obtained, and there was no known use for either item. Neither were ever given a slot in the Xunlai materials storage.
