New Spear Profession

I was really excited when I heard there was a profession in Guild Wars with a spear as a standard weapon. And I was even more disappointed when I found out they threw with it. I am a huge fan of the old chines fighters with the spear. A spear as a melee weapon is far more useful than to throw with it. Stabbing and smashing with it on your enemies, while keeping them on a distance with the spear is very effective. It also looks more like reality. A ranger could have a 100 arrows in it's quiver, but a paragon had a 100 spears in it's pocket isn't really convincing. So my question is: Could the spear become also a melee weapon in Guild Wars 2? (if there are still melee weapons)
