Ok. So I know we do not know for sure the last Proffesion is the Mesmer. But if it is. Anet consider reading this idea. I know it may seem unfair to the current energy System. But please just read it. I won't hate you if you don't include it, but I certainly would be glad if you at least gave this a thought.
For me, In gw1 Im a Inspiration Mesmer. I am very happy being a heavy Energy Denial Mesmer. And Lets face it, what is at the core of the Mesmer. Mesmers by defniantion are the denial class. And what does every class have? Energy is the biggest resource that every class needs. So I do not see why Mesmers would suddenly stop playing with energy. Its one of the best ways to deny. But here is the thing. In the current state. If you directly took the old gw1 Energy Denial Mechanic and put it in gw2 it would lead to a lot of frustrated and rather unhappy players. No one wants to see "2000" Energy being removed from there energy bar. At the rate of energy..taht would be unfair, and spaming that would lead to awfull energy managment for the other players. We can only use a potion so many times, and they have recharge times.
So I offer a translation, that gives the Flavor to us Energy-Denial lovers, and also makes it fair for others. I offer the Idea of Energy Degeneration. A Mechanic that pretty much means that we Mesmers get to keep the flavor of energy manipulation, but in a more or less subtle way that is not directly damaging. Energy Degeneration Spells pretty much are channel spells. But the channel spell that lets the Mesmer make a link with the foe. That foe is connected to the Mesmer who begins to channel thier energy. The Energy goes like this. (.=Second till next level of energy taken, #=energy taken) 1...3...6...9...12...etc all the way up to 30. Every three seconds the energy degen increase by a increment of three. By the end of the channel the Mesmer is taking 30 energy a second. Now how does this translate to Skills. Ill provide 3 examples. ---
Energy Burn- THe mesmer begins to channel the targets energy. The amount of damage done to the foe is proportional to the amount of energy channeled. So for every point of energy channeled to the Mesmer the foe recives X damage. That damage increases every time the channel goes up a level. Energy Surge-The mesmer channels energy from a target. When the channel is done the Mesmer relaseses the energy from the foe into a type of AOE damage directed at the orginal target that hits those near them. The amount of damage done is directly proprotional to the points of energy taken. Energy Tap-(Come on...How esle will we heal..mesmers had like 3 Heal skills..and only one was direct...Energy Tap). Mesmer channels for each point of energy taken the Mesmer is healed.

Ok So what is good about this. 1. This gives flavor and Energy abbilties for the Mesmer. 2. The Damage done is directly porportional to the amount of energy taken so it gives the Mechanic reason. 3. The Energy touch is small, if Anythign the only real damage the Mesmer is doing is putting pressure. This pressure can be allived easily and ill state the ways below. 4.It gives the mesmer a viable lore-wise, spamable, active combat skill type that lets us AOE as well as Deal damage. Iot also makes us unique in that a fight agaist a mesmer will be just as unique as a fight against a Necromancer. Sure all the class blurr together in the trinity, but some things set other apart. THis could be our form of control, withotu the rellial of conditons like bleed and poison. 5. It gives the Punishment lovers some love. It punishes players for not paying attention in active combat. Its not the energy they have to worry about, its the damage to follow. 6. It gives us a unique place among the proffesions. It would make us less of "A Ele with Purple hues" and much more of a "Ohh cool, that Mesmer is comeign to aid in the dynamic event. They are so neat". 7. The mechanic is both active, requiring the Mesmers invovlment in battle. Its not a simple, cast-and-forget spell. We have to watch what we are doing, and ill explain why on the ways to stop the Channeling Degen. 8. It gives us a Denial stand-point without being to Set on fight specific players. Instead of having a build that is super effective against Theives..but warriors can trump it, we are effective againts all to some extent. cuase everyone needs energy. 9. The Energy degen is small, almost unoticable. The real energy manipulation comes from the way the Target gets out of the spells effect. That is what really does it. But further more, it gives us viable and feasable tactics to use on the battle field.

Ok so that was the Cons, so I need to give you ways to mitigate a Energy Mesmer. I mean it would not be fair if the Mesmer can simply start a channel, sit there no mater what, and at the end of the channel suddenly unleash a super spike. that would destory the active part of the game. I mean no one could activly be able to defat a mesmer that channels for a minute..the damage would be so high. Instead i present several feasable tactics players could employ.
1. Dodge. First and formost, dodge out of the way. Mesmers have to connect to what they are siphenign the energy from. Regualr movment, or jumpign is easy for them to track, but dodge in any direction and the connection will be lost. The effect will still hit if form example the Mesmer was useing energy surge and you dodged..you will get hit with the damage of the end of the spell, but you avoid the Energy loss fromt he mesmer's degen.
2. Hit the Mesmer. Any damage to the memser, any at all, will isntatly sever her concentration and render the spell interutped. So if your a warrior already chargign to the Mesmer, and she cast this, The mesmer herself is breakign her own learning curve. Obviosly before you get any energy siphoned that Warrior is going to hit you down. Effect of end spell still follows. Another way to make this visually pelasing and a unique way to help players find the Mesmer to hit is to actually make a huge line of energy, that looks like purple magic being drawn from the Target to the Mesmer. THe line should be noticable at all times, and vivid. When it comes down to it, follow the line...And tada- their is your mesmer.
3. Expand your energy. SImply use up your energy as fast as you can. this in itself stops the Mesmer from doing any damage, or getting anyting out of the spell. If you have 0 energy, you cant steal any energy to use as a weapon agaisnt the foe. So, simply use up all your skills, and watch when the mesmer beigns to draw blanks. This is a tactic that would provivde deadly consiqueses for someoen without wise energy smarts, and deny them skilsl for a short time. Hence A mesmerific thing to do.
4. Simply Use a Energy potion. If your in the middle of a battle, and that Mesmer behidn you is being to really hurt. And your getting low on energy. Drink a potion. This istnatly gives you a lto of energy probably, and should isntatly cut the Mesmer from degening the foe's energy. This would make the target use a potion slot they would otherwise maybe need later, and could provide lots of Denial to players who use up their potions trying to avoid a Mesmer.

Ok so what are some possible Cons. 1. What if a Person runs out of potions agaistn a very heavy Energy Denial mesmer. It would be castsrophic and they player would feel like they could not play becuase this mermse just takes all there energy. Possible solution- Keep the energy degen small. We dont need to take 100 energy a second, that would be rediculus. The Energy is just a prong of the real effect. The damage. Further more, Energy should regenrate at a certain rate that if the Mesmer were to get killed, then ta-da...the warrior is already well on his way to full energy again. I dont think The energy steal should be massive, nor very powerfull. That is just the prong that deals the damage.
There may be plenty other problems that have not been brought to my Attention. But I would love to hear them. Either way Anet, This Mechanic provides a lot of good things and fun for the Mesmer proffesion. As well as gives us a unique edge, and makes us difficult to play. As a mesmer would have to watch what she is doing, as well as watch what is around her. At any turn she could be interupoted or stoped from dealing a good proportion of damage.
But that is all for now. Thanks for reading Anet! Love you girls and guys! and good luck on the last proffesion whatever it be!
