Inspiration[edit]

I was came up with this idea whilst playing Blazblue (a fighting game similar to street fighter and tekken). There is a character on there who uses two pistols as her weapons, but in a semi-range semi-melee capacity. [1] the character in question, called noel. I was also reminded of the film Equilibrium, in which there is a society of people trained in a combat form that is a blend of martial arts and gunslingery violence [2]. Also, It is incredibly similar to the way Dante from the Devil May Cry series uses his dual pistols[3] who also uses fights with a sword. So, this class kind of blends those 3 sources of inspiration together.

General class info[edit]

These characters (from Blazblue, Equilibrium and Devil May Cry) all have similar aspects of their fighting style. They are light on their feet, dish out large amounts of pain, but are quite fragile (well, except dante, but he is a demon... so its a moot point). They move quite acrobatically with some resemblance to that of shaolin monks (also see GW1 monk dances). Noel and Dante also use extra powers with their fighting (Noels guns are an ancient weapon with magical abilities, Dante is a Demon so has magic power from that). So to encapsulate all that, the Gunslinger class (i realise this kind of paints more of a picture of a cowbow but the class name isnt important) is primarily a ranged damage dealer through his pistols, sword, and weapon magics (by which i mean magic chanelled through his weapons to add effects or do special attacks with them). The gunslinger is a scholar class, due to light armour but high, ranged, damage output.

Weapons[edit]

  • Main Hand
    • Pistol
    • Sword
  • Off Hand
    • Pistol
    • Dagger
  • Two Handed
    • Greatsword
    • Rifle

The Gunslinger has 2 weapon sets.

Mechanics[edit]

The gunslinger has a unique mechanic called Arcane Energy. Simliar to the Necromancers lifeforce bar, the gunslinger has an Arcane Energy bar. This is a resource used to power Runes. Runes are inscriptions he applies to his weapons to bestow them with magical properties. There is a seperate Menu for Runes, accessed by clicking a button to the left of the Arcane Energy bar. When clicked, it bring up the list of available runes that you have access to, and the weapons currently equipped in your weapon sets. From here you choose the rune you want to apply, then click the weapon to apply it to. When the gunslinger kills an enemy he absorbs and stores its Arcane Energy. His Runes skills cost a certain amount of Arcane Energy, as opposed to the standard energy. Once applied, the rune will stay on the weapon untill it is replaced with a new one or the Gunslinger choses to remove it. Once a rune is activated it will drain the Arcane energy bar whenver the weapon it is applied to is used. Only one rune can be active on each individual weapon at a time. They are not removed when the weapon set is changed, and can be applied to each weapon in the set individually. For example, Weapon set 1 (W1) is dual weilding pistols and Weapon set 2 (W2) is a greatsword. In W1 a rune can be applied to the main hand pistol, and a different rune applied to the off hand pistol. Then he cn switch to W2 and apply a 3rd rune to the greatsword. When he switches to W1 the runes applied previously are still active on the guns and vice verce.

Trait Lines[edit]

Arcane Energy - This trait line focuses on magic damage and buffing the gunslingers rune skills. Gunslinger - This trait line focuses on the gunslingers mobilty, finesse, and aptitude with dual wield pistols. Plus one line for each weapon.

Example Skills[edit]

Main Hand Pistol

Shot - basic attack, shoots the enemy.

Magic Bullet- The Gunslinger channels magical energy through his gun and discharges it as a focused peircing projectile. Deals chaos damage, damages up to 3 foes in the bullets range.

Off hand Pistol

Chilling Blast - The gunslinger charges his gun with arcane energy. Once fired, the target will be chilled to its very core. Charge skill. Deals cold damage. Fully charged, it will freeze the target and cause some cold damage to foes adjacent to the target.

Encompassing Barrage - The Gunslinger, while standing in the same spot, rapidly begins to start shoooting every foe around him multiple times, but not focussing on any single target at a time. While dual wielding pistols, he will use both guns to do this for increased damage. Think first 40 seconds of this video [[4].

Sword

Slash => Leg Sweep => Execute - The Gunsliger slashes downward across the foes chest, then using this downward momentum, quickly kicks the opponents legs out from underneath them with a spinning sweep and finally brings the sword down across the foes neck. Slash deals physical damage. Leg Sweep will cause knockdown, but foes immune to knockdown will just take physical damage and the chain will reset back to slash. Execute has an increased chance to critical, and always results in a deep wound.

Boomerang- With a swipe of his blade the gunslinger throws an arcane copy of his own sword out which will arc out and around back to him damageing all enemies in its path. Deals chaos damage

Greatsword

Arcane Shockwave - The gunslinger focuses his energy into his blade and with a mighty downward swipe, he releases a shockwave of arcane energy which rapidly moves forwards from him, damaging all in its path. ( side note, looks similar to this[5])

Runes

  • Vampiric Rune - Adds life steal to all attacks from the imbued weapon.
  • Ether Rune - Adds chaos damage and converts some of the damage dealt into Arcane Energy, slightly filling the bar.
  • Elemental Rune - Adds a small amount of Fire, Cold, Earth, and Lightning damage to all attacks.
  • Splinter Rune - Criticals from this weapon causes bleeding to target and adjacent foes. Slightly increased chance of critical hits.

Well, thats the basis of my idea. I hope you like it. Thanks for reading :)

P.S. Any suggestions on a better name than Gunslinger would be appreciated, it doesnt really fit the class very well tbh.
