Barbarous Slice[edit]
Current:[edit]
6 Sword Attack. Deals +5...25...30 damage. Inflicts Bleeding condition (5...13...15 seconds) if you are not in a stance.
Proposed:[edit]
3 ½ 6 Sword Attack. Interrupts a skill. Interrupt effect: deals +5...21...25 damage and inflicts Deep Wound (1...3...4 second[s]) if target foe was bleeding.
An opportunistic skill that beautifully rewards successful Warrioring.
Deadly Riposte[edit]
Current:[edit]
- See Tactics.
Proposed:[edit]
5 6 Skill. (1 second for each two ranks of Tactics.) Blocks the next attack against you. Block effect: all adjacent foes take 15...55...65 slashing damage and you gain 3 Energy. You are interrupted. Ends if you attack. Failure with Swordsmanship 3 or less.
Stops suq.
Dragon Slash[edit]
Current:[edit]
10 Elite Sword Attack. Deals +10...34...40 damage. You gain 1...4...5 strike[s] of adrenaline if it hits.
Proposed:[edit]
6 ½ 1 Elite Sword Attack. Deals 10...34...40 slashing damage to target and nearby foes and interrupts a skill. Interrupt effect: knocks down target foe and and you gain 0...3...4 Adrenaline.
Disruption on a beautiful level.
Final Thrust[edit]
Current:[edit]
10 Sword Attack. Deals +1...32...40 damage. Deals +1...32...40 more damage if target foe is below 50% Health. Lose all adrenaline.
Proposed:[edit]
9 1 Sword Attack. Deals +1...16...20 damage. Deals +1...48...60 more damage if target foe is below 50% Health. Lose all adrenaline and Energy.
Final Thrust had an interesting place: it was extremely strong and had a drawback to match in that it was either "they die right now or they don't die" by nature, and that was one of my favorite parts of the skill, so I haven't changed that aspect of it.
One of the issues that I did have with this skill was that it was so very, very slow; in the time that it took a sword warrior to apply deep wound before, a spike could very well be protted, so following up with a skill like this became a hindrance. To address this, I sped up the attack speed in order to give a sword spike using it a feel closer to Eviscerate -> Executioner's Strike -> Agonizing Chop.
However, a 1s skill that unconditionally did +40 damage wasn't my intention, so I cut half of the base damage off and added it to the conditional damage.
The end result is a skill somewhere between Agonizing Chop and Decapitate.
One of the issues I see is this making swords too spike-oriented, but I'd have to see how it played in real matches in order to judge that.
Flurry[edit]
Current:[edit]
- See Unlinked Skills.
Proposed:[edit]
10 6 Skill. (0...4...5 second[s].) You attack 33% faster. Your next 2...4...5 attacks deal +3...9...10 slashing damage to target foe. Ends after 2...4...5 attacks or if you use a non-attack skill.
Forgo the Strength IAS stance for a couple of respectable benefits.
Galrath Slash[edit]
Current:[edit]
8 Sword Attack. Deals +1...32...40 damage.
Proposed:[edit]
4 1 2 Sword Attack. Inflicts Daze (1...3...4) seconds if target foe is casting a spell.
One of the things that bugged me about this skill was that it always felt like it was playing an axe's role, to me: axes are for big spike damage, swords are for condi pressure. Because of this, it almost never saw competitive play - if someone wanted to to big damage, they wouldn't take Galrath Slash; they'd take Executioner's Strike.
So I've completely reworked it. This is now a sword's rough equivalent to Disrupting Chop: strong shutdown that relies on prediction rather than reflex.
I'd expect this skill to be fun and interesting in play.
Hamstring[edit]
Current:[edit]
10 15 Sword Attack. Inflicts Crippled condition (3...10...12 seconds).
Proposed:[edit]
4 1 3 Sword Attack. Inflicts Crippled condition (3...10...12 seconds) if target foe is moving.
Cripple has been one of the things that sort of characterized swordsmanship before, since the Crippling Slash v. Eviscerate days of way-back when. Hell, it even advertised it on the box! However, sword have always lacked a viable, plain, straightforward cripple skill, and so this has been made into one, more or less.
It's a very small change that puts the skill at a reasonable power level, I think; I don't expect it to be absolutely amazing or to be terrible, but, again, I'd have to see it in actual play. If anything, I think it may still be too weak.
Hundred Blades[edit]
Current:[edit]
5 25 Elite Skill. (15 seconds.) Deals 10...22...25 slashing damage to all adjacent foes whenever you attack with a sword.
Proposed:[edit]
10 4 Elite Skill. (0...12...15 second[s].) You attack 33% faster. Your next 2...6...7 attacks deal 5...21...25 slashing damage to all adjacent foes. Ends after 2...6...7 attacks or if you use a non-attack skill.
Elite Flurry.
Jaizhenju Strike[edit]
Current:[edit]
5 8 Sword Attack. Deals +1...24...30 damage. Unblockable unless you are in a stance.
Proposed:[edit]
5 1 Sword Attack. You gain 2...6...7 Energy and 1...3...3 Adrenaline if target foe is Crippled.
Overwritten in favor of an awesome new knee cutter.
Knee Cutter[edit]
Current:[edit]
5 1 Sword Attack. You gain 2...6...7 Energy and 1...3...3 Adrenaline if target foe is Crippled.
Proposed:[edit]
10 ¼ Sword Attack. Interrupts an action. Interrupt effect: inflicts Crippled condition (5...13...15 seconds).
The old functionality has been moved to Jaizhenju Strike for thematic reasons.
The new skill is both an awesome interrupt and a reliable source of cripple.
Pure Strike[edit]
Current:[edit]
5 8 Sword Attack. Deals +1...24...30 damage. Unblockable unless you are in a stance.
Proposed:[edit]
2 1 Sword Attack. Deals +1...12...15 damage. Always a critical hit.
Is startling similar to Keen Arrow: light, smammable damage, if you're into that sort of thing.
Quivering Blade[edit]
Current:[edit]
5 Elite Sword Attack. Deals +10...34...40 damage. Inflicts Dazed condition (5 seconds) if target foe was moving.
Proposed:[edit]
5 1 Elite Skill. (3 seconds.) Initial effect: You are interrupted; you gain 4...8...9 Energy and 1 Adrenaline if a skill is interrupted in this way. Your next attack skill deals +10...34...40 damage and inflicts Dazed condition (3...7...8 seconds) if it strikes a foe using a skill.
You ever play Ranger and have to cancel Apply to land an int? Well, imagine a war cancelling Bull's to Savage you. That's what this skill is about: rewarding clutch disruption.
Riposte[edit]
Current:[edit]
- See Tactics.
Proposed:[edit]
5 1 Skill. (1 second for each two ranks of Tactics.) Blocks the next attack against you. Block effect: you gain 1...3...3 Energy and 0...2...2 Adrenaline. You are interrupted. Ends if you attack. Failure with Swordsmanship 5 or less.
Also stops suq.
Savage Slash[edit]
Current:[edit]
5 ½ 15 Sword Attack. Interrupts an action. Interruption effect: deals +1...32...40 damage if action was a spell.
Proposed:[edit]
3 ½ 1 Sword Attack. Interrupts an action. Interruption effect: deals +1...16...20 damage if action was a spell and inflicts Bleeding (5...17...20 seconds) if action was a skill.
This skill, while nice, trailed leagues beyond the axe interrupts in terms of utility.
This buff makes is stronger than Agonizing Chop, though not as strong as Disrupting Chop. Additionally, this gives swords a twitch that they can use relatively frequently for damage, though I don't see this becoming an issue, especially with the buffs to prot.
Seeking Blade[edit]
Current:[edit]
5 4 Sword Attack. Deals +1...16...20 damage. Deals 1...16...20 damage and inflicts Bleeding condition (25 seconds) if blocked.
Proposed:[edit]
5 1 8 Sword Attack. Interrupts a skill. Unblockable. Interruption effect: disables interrupted skill (3...13...15 seconds) if that skill was a spell.
Massive disruption. It's like a melee Magebane.
Sever Artery[edit]
Current:[edit]
4 Sword Attack. Inflicts Bleeding condition (5...21...25 seconds).
Proposed:[edit]
4 Sword Attack. Interrupts an action if target foe was not Bleeding. Inflicts Bleeding condition (5...17...20 seconds).
A mild spike opener in its own right. It's for priming for a Gash or Barbarous Slash while taking out that last-second guardian. Not as powerful as Savage Slash as an interrupt, but it offers the unconditional bleeding.
Silverwing Slash[edit]
Current:[edit]
8 Sword Attack. Deals +1...32...40 damage.
Proposed:[edit]
8 Sword Attack. Deals 10...26...30 slashing damage and inflicts Daze condition (0...3...4 seconds) on target and nearby foes if it hits.
This is power. Eight adrenaline would buy an axe or hammer enormous kill power; it buys swords enormous disruptive power.
