Feedback talk:User/FloppyJoe/Name your minipets
I don't see the benefit, because if you go to sell your minipet, it wouldn't sell good. Each Mini tells the name of what it is, when you get it. I don't think it'd be possible to revert it back to original name even if you did. Too much complication in my oppinion. If I wanted a pet with a name, I'd do ranger and tame a pet, then name it. More fun that way, too. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Ariyen (talk).
- Well, that's why I added the first suggestion of just adding a /minipetname, since it'd be like /petname, which can currently be reset. This would allow it to be character specific, so no worries on selling the mini. As for making it so you can name individual minipets instead, giving people the option to do this would be cool, whether they do it would be up to them. If they can't reset the name, I'd think of it kind of like dedicating minipets now. I dedicate all my minipets, but I don't sell any of them. If I was to sell them, they'd be worth a heck of a lot less than their original value, but I don't care. It's just a way of customizing who runs around with you, and I'd like the option to do it. i think it would be a better to be able to have a pet with you all the time, with the name you want as minipets would need to be recognised by its name, not the name given to it --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Geoffercake (talk).
- According to the information on Wiki and GW2 Wiki, there are going to be optional companions in GW2. I assume minipets will still be available as well, which would be smaller non-fighting companions. Having a /petname and a /minipetname, I assume, would not conflict and would work for me. I am not 100% sure what you were trying to say, but I tried to respond as best I could. FloppyJoe 03:52, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
At most if minipets are not as in GW1[edit]
Naming miniatures as they are in gw1 would at most encourage scamming.
Regarding the minis we know, nobody except for its owner can see their name. If they are changed to the name of another miniature with a similar icon (e.g. Celestial Miniatures), or if it gets renamed to something which doesn't exist but is asserted to be "rare and valuable", deceiving players becomes easier. This could be avoided if there was a second line which reveals the minipet's true identity, but then again this makes the feature of naming minipets even more dubous.
The miniatures we're familiar with also don't even have any characteristics that differenciates them from other miniatures of the same kind. A Miniature Jungle Troll can at most be dedicated or not. I can remember another proposal that suggested being able to name weapons for more individuality. This is something i can at least somewhat comprehend since weapons of the same skin still have a differences like upgrades, requirement, and the color used on them. And the name could also be shown without trading by calling out the character's wielded weapons. It also proposed a cost for this process instead of just a command.
Talking about the command, that's also something that would cause problems as you proposed it here. You can have more than one pet in your inventory, so the description would have to get more specific in order to work. This could be solved though if the command only affected the very first item slot in the upper left corner in the backpack.
I don't exactly know how miniatures in GW2 will look like, but i can hardly imagine any changes which could make me think highly of this idea right now... —ZerphaThe Improver 13:15, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
