Feedback talk:User/Guild Wars 3 perhaps/Weapon Skill Tiers

Quite alot to chew on, but overall I think its a good idea.

Some of the problems I see are:

Having so many options doesn't translate well to other skills from different professions. Maybe instead have a constant 2 areas inwhich to focus, such as 2.5% increase on skill damage and 5% incease in skill range. Possibly adding a 3rd at tier 4 and 8 to choose from. This could be a 5% chance each time the skill is used, to add a low impact(on overall gameplay) effect. If it already does effects, it can enhance them. If it doesn't, then it can create an appropriate one.

This way if someone decided to focus in any single one of these they could reach a max of:

20% increase of skill damage, or 40% increase of skill range, or 10% chance to trigger an effect or increase an existing effect.

I like having 8 tiers to each skill.

Thank you for taking time to read the post and for offering feedback. I agree with your assessment that my original suggestion may not translate well to other skills from different professions. Almost all of my initial feedback posts start with a brainstorm idea which I attempt to put down in writing as quickly as I can before it vanishes. The discussion tab then becomes the arena for identifying pros and cons and refining the original idea. I used a skill which I have thoroughly researched since I will play a necromancer when GW2 is launched (and quite possibly only a necromancer during the majority of my GW2 career). But I do see your point regarding other professions' skills.

I'm not married to the details I presented in the original post. Rather, I'm attempting to present what I see as a potential problem (lack of variety in skill progression and lack of personalization of the skills) in an attempt to challenge the developers to come up with a solution to address this problem. Do I expect them to use my suggested additions verbatim? Certainly not. But if it gets them to stand back and look at the skills while saying to themselves, "Hmmm...yeah...I can see his point...the same skill animations, range, damage, effects, unlock progression, etc. from level 10 to level 80 may start to get boring after awhile. Maybe there's a way we can introduce some variety and personalization to this particular mechanic.", then I will have achieved my goal. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 02:49, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
