Probably Not for the Best[edit]
1. It would impact your personal story too much. At least 1 question that you answer when making your character relies on profession, and your instanced "home area" is affected by that as well. 2. It would make profession choosing meaningless. If you could change profession after creating a character, choosing a profession stops becoming a big deal and people loose personality to their characters (anyone can be any profession at any time). Normal professions would cease to matter, as (for a cost as you mentioned), you could be anything. People would jump around so much to fit their needs/whims that you wouldn't think "I am a warrior, but I used to be a thief", you'd think "I am whatever profession I happen to like right now". 3. Each person would only need 1 character. This isn't such a big deal, but people are bound to miss out on a lot of content if, instead of making a new character for variety, they just change their high-level character to a different profession.
Those are the things that jump out at me. Modern MMOs are heavily focused on classes/professions and their balance and allowing a player to change that easily takes away a large part of what makes your character unique. --Thunderduck 22:38 May 3 (UTC)
- I support this change:
- It's consistent with other pay options (makeover and gender change in GW1).
- It requires paying some real world cash, so presumably, players interested in changing the prof could figure out a storyline that explains their evolution.
- It's consistent with prof changes in GW1's storyline (Razah, who has variable prof; Thack, who was →).
- I'm always in favor of pay-changes that help support the game/company and yet provide no in-game advantage (especially if I don't expect to spend the money on them – allows me to be a free rider).
- I'm sure that ANet will take this into account, but I do think that there need to be certain restrictions, such as:
- Minimum level
- Progressed in storyline substantially (e.g. completed a campaign)
- Cannot repeat profession/skill/attribute quests that would give an advantage to those switching profs.
- Hope to see this in GW2. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:29, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Sidekicking pretty much nullifies the need for this[edit]
If you want to see high level action in a new profession, just start a new character and sidekick him with a high level guildee. Greep 18:15, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
