Sounds ok, but how many towns/outposts are going to have an asuran gate? Im pretty sure Anet will do a tweak on the original map travel, so you can instantly travel between outposts no matter what *not so sure about map travel in the open field, we will have to wait and see about that*--Malchior Devenholm 00:52, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Technically the map travel in GW1 is just the character travelling from one area to the next, without having the player 'see' or 'make' the journey there. But with the introduction of persistent areas, GW1 map travel would no longer make sense. I love the passport idea too! You can expand it to allow portals to recognise passports and the stamps that the passport has - you get a stamp for each portal you visit. For lore purposes it'll prevent monsters from using them, and for mission purposes you could be issued temporary visas/stamps if the portal leads to a dungeon, or if the location that the portal would take you to has changed. Well, let's face it, there was never really an explanation for how map travel worked. My basic understanding of it though is the same as yours. I was originally going to explain asura involvement by saying the fall of civilizations had made the routes used for map travel too dangerous. I included the map travel from anywhere feature from GW1 because, while it doesn't make sense, people who travel out into a difficult area shouldn't have to die to teleport back to their town. There could be a lore explanation for it, but that might be getting too complex.--Shai Halud 23:32, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
