Good suggestion. It makes sense. Just because you are a particular profession doesn't mean you're a complete dunce when it comes to using a weapon outside of your profession. Sure, you may not be able to use it to its fullest potential; but that shouldn't restrict you to not being able to use it all.
The mechanic would be similar to the downed state. Pick up a weapon not tailored to your profession and your weapon skills will be replaced by a set of skills specific to the weapon you just picked up. Granted, they won't be as powerful as the skills of someone trained in the use of that weapon, but they should still be available versus a complete exclusion of a particular weapon for a particular profession.
Of course, this begs the question of why would you bother picking up a weapon that is weakening your effectiveness in the first place. The answer could be lack of energy (innate weapon skills would cost less than profession-specific weapon skills) or an enemy who has a specific weakness best exploited by these innate weapon skils or even a snynergy with utility skills (an elementalist might be a terrible shot with a rifle...until they combine immolate with bullets to cause a particularly nasty hail of firey death, for example). - I'm not sure what bothers you most by my suggestion. If you meant "Why bother with professions if you have default skills?", the answer would be: Because profession skills are more versatile than the default ones. Note that a gun to a Mesmer is just a stick that can release bullets. On the other hand, a thief can do allot more with it. If your question was "Why bother with professions if you can simply work your way around them with my suggestion?" I'd have to reply as follows: In GW you can craft armor and weapons. To what purpose? To best complement your skills and fighting style. Now that GW2 will have no secondary professions, your skills and fighting style are greatly restricted. I bother with these suggestions because I think crafting and default usage of items can replace the secondary profession in this role. Please ask more questions.Ys Mist 10:43, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
spiked maces could strike around a shield and avoid blocks, blunt weapons causes bones to break if you wear leather, chain, clothes, only a fullplate with thick enough steel got bumps and may avoid crushing bones irl. BUT thats reality and GW2 won't be simulation. I think Izzy gonna make his job well as usually... I think he gonna respect the physical laws and behaviors. Also: the conditions and what kind of weapon is able to do them is clear from interviews in the past... maces daze, axes inflict deep wounds, swords causes bleeding, torches burning e.g. Rest -> look at known Traits --Kali Shin Shivara 05:10, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
