how to sort them?[edit]

One way could be normal and a "green" sub page for each, also should we sort them by campaign on each page? Fall 18:14, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

example of possible page sorts here. Fall 18:16, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Aye that looks good, I think it will definitely be need as some of these might get long. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 18:42, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to start using the 100px preview vs the 150px because its too big. Fall 18:43, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure we should sort them by campaign? Most weapons are found in multiple campaigns, how are you planning to categorize these weapons? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 18:49, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
The first campaign they appeared in, so if they are in eotn and nightfall, nightfall would be first so it would go in nightfall, if you have a better sorting idea let us know :) Fall 18:50, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Would it be easier to have one list and go A - Z down the list? Fall 19:01, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Oh, that's a good idea. My idea was to arrange the list alphabetically, but four (five) sections are possibly better than 26 :P
But i'd sort the green weapons differently. As most of them use an existing skin, i'd propose an extra column in the table of the "regular" weapons for their unique versions using that skin, including their color. This could possibly also be preferable for Emily in case she can dye the weapons in her program, then she wouldn't have to find the same model multiple times. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:06, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
See what you think of this format, it would be based on one a - z list so ignore the "core" thing. Fall 19:15, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh, you don't need to accept my suggestion about the a-z thing. Only having 6 sections could possibly even be better. At the time i challenged your proposal, i didn't know about your idea of sorting it with a "first campaign used"-pattern. On the other side, finding the shield one is searching for will be easier when the list is sorted by letters. Well, we should wait at first and see what the others think. Unlike the NPC models project, there's not that much one could sort here.
My idea about adding the greens in the regular weapons' tables would approximately look like this. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:30, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I like your idea, I polished up the one you made a bit here what do you think? Fall 19:32, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Looks good actually, also numbering the regular weapon should also be better when we get multiple weapons that use the same skin. The only thing that could possibly be cleaned up a bit is the dye display. Btw, if we get uncolored unique items, we can make use of Image:No Dye.png - In this case the unique item can use the same image, like other regular weapons that share their appearance. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:14, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
here is essentially what it will look like, the page has the exact number of red link and images for axes that exist with different skins. Fall 20:34, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Axe page is done I think, are any changes to the format needed or are we good to keep going? Fall 21:16, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
All the pages are created and templates pre loaded now to fill them in :) hehe Fall 22:14, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
What would you think about sorting them by attribute? (Would affect caster weapon pages: foci, staves and wands.) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 23:30, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Do you mean prof because some weapons come in multiple attributes? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 23:45, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Doesn't matter to me, its true one big list on those 3 pages may not be good. Fall 23:51, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Yes notes images have been ported in and this list is completed from GWW:PR/ICON, I haven't had time to sort dye issues and things though so someone will need to do that. Fall 01:15, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

naming[edit]

Are we going to have duplicate images where weapons share renders so they preserve their names, or use a single image as we do with NPC renders? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 20:33, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

A single image will do with the exception of greens, since most green items have different dye effects. Fall 20:35, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
New question, how should we note that two things use the same image normal and unique in the table? Fall 15:33, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Let me do this differently, on things like Deldrimor Shield and Exalted Aegis they should only use one render name like I have listed on the Forgotten Shield correct? Fall 15:36, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
That's likely the best solution. But consider that "common" weapon image names are normally written in minorcase, as they aren't a proper noun used ingame anymore. At least it's done like that in GWW:PR/MODEL. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 21:49, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

reference[edit]

Im using the Inventory icons project as a reference here, I put a bunch of blank templates up and just fill them in down the line. Fall 21:39, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

good idea, it includes already an overview for most shared weapon icons —ZerphatalkThe Improver 22:04, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

weapons with multiple skins[edit]

eg Battle Axe I have noted on the list when a weapon has multiple skins to explain why it appears on the list in several places. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 00:09, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

articles like that should actually all get split up into several pages, as they don't really have anything in common except for the name, their drop locations are different. These images should get the same name as the according split article. The disambiguations should be adapted to the name of Tolkano's reward weapon with the same skin. If it doesn't exist, it should be adapted to the name of another existing weapon with that skin instead. If neither of both is the case, try to think up a reasonable disambiguation. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:40, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Other things[edit]

Could we make this the Item model project? As I understand it, other items used the same class of models as wepons. Eg. Paulus's Holy Symbol has an onbious connection. Thus any render of one could be used for the other. Backsword 16:56, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Wouldn't Paulus's Holy Symbol go better over at GWW:PR/II? Fall 17:12, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Not talking about the icon, but about the actual model used. Eg when droped on the ground? Backsword 17:17, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Just add them under common and we can link them when we get a render. Fall 17:23, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Aye I don't think that many models come in on that, but as suggested, put them on a common page, but have the render name to be the same as that for the same model weapon's icon. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 21:23, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

shared render images issue[edit]

The idea about uploading renders with a common name to evade multiple uploading of the same image probably shouldn't be used in this project, as this would cause problems in automated things like weapon galleries: See Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Formatting/Weapons#Split_and_image_issues. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 09:01, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Expanding information[edit]

Does this project include expanding information on weapons, or just rendering their images? --Burning Freebies 15:44, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

'Sup?[edit]

I was in Bellevue the other day and I thought "Hey, why not help out the guys" and so I broke into ANet's main building and stole pirated all their shit. I can now do renders! :D You're going to need to tell me how you'd like them formatted, however, as I'm kinda of a newb with the new tools, and I don't know what dye jobs you want, or the angles, or anything like that. As an example of what I can do, I took the liberty of grabbing the Composite Bow's texture and rendered it, as can be seen here, though there are a few problems I'm working on, like how to get the gold surface texture (I think it's just a very simple shiny texture applied, I could probably just photoshop it or something). That one's dyed brown because it's the color my PvE ranger has it. Anyway, uh, yeah. If there's anything you wanted rendered, I can probably do it. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 11:30, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Nice job. I believe on the bows they wanted them vertical with the arc to the right (see the ones Emily has done), and they should have white backgrounds and be undyed. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 11:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Alright, thanks. I'll get to work on a few of them as soon as this ridiculous 3d program finishes downloading. Stupid overly complicated techno hoo-ha... --Jette User Jette awesome.png 11:55, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Update: I'm waiting for Gaile (or anyone, really, but since she seems to hear complaints from people wanting to be un-banned, I fugre she should be fine hearing from someone who just doesn't want to get banned) to confirm that this is OK with them, since (obviously) I'm using a program to capture the models. Another reason is because omg it's hard to get rid of t hat stupid background. I might have to use TexMod... on a program designed to capture textures & models. I'm going to go hit my head on the DSM-IV until I forget why that's so incredibly stupid. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 13:55, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
