Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.

Philosophy
To be kind and respectful towards your fellow gamers is the essence of being mature. To know that the person sitting behind the computer screen on the other side is there to have their own entertainment, not to be there for your amusement, is the reality.
We joke, we have a lot of fun laughing at each other and ourselves, but we never tolerate anyone making other people feel inadequate, or judged.
Common sense, common decency, and common goals.
Brief History
iMud was originally named in honor of Diku Mud which is a text based MMORPG, as well as it's descendents.
Founded by the famous (or infamous) Diku (IGN Diku Spring, Diku Spider, etc.), on July 9th, 2005, the guild started off pretty small, with only a small core group of close friends. As time passed they gradually got better at the game, and gradually got more ambitious.
In the Spring and Summer of 2007, they began to grow significantly, with a grand design. They added guilds, all with the [iMud] tag. They recruited fast. They added even more guilds, and continually used alliance chat to help each other in their endeavors to succeed. By the end of the summer, all 10 guilds had been brought together in the same alliance, all led by the same man.
Sometime in 2008/2009 they peaked at well over 800 members, falling a bit short of the grand dream to create "a 1000 player Megaguild, where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came." The guild slowly began to stagnate, people left or stopped playing, chat died down. . .
2010 saw a vast change in attitude for all remaining members. First of all, every member in the alliance was given the chance to continue on in the Parent guild. Secondly, many made the decision not to stay for this last ditch effort to save and rebuild the alliance. Thirdly, some new officers rose to the challenge and stepped up. Then, a brand new recruiting push launched with fresh vigor. Alas, Diku Spring was never the same after so much drama, and burned out quickly, passing the torch between the active officers in the spring.
July 9th, 2010, a beautiful yet solemn Casing of the Colors ceremony marked the closing of the old alliance, 10 guilds finally condensed into one, one brand new Warlord stepping forward, and [iMud] bravely venturing forth into the larger community, on the path to join a new alliance. Diku officially stepped down as leader and left Starfleck Almighty in charge of turning a slightly less ambitious dream into a reality.
Today
[iMud] now exists much as it has since the time Diku finally passed the torch. He still administers the website, and is feeling much better in his personal life. Starfleck has come into his own as one of the most respected guild leaders in the [ESP] alliance. Soul Tamer, the first of the new officers promoted at the big alliance change, has grown quickly into a veteran player, and taken the lead for a few months. The guild leader position currently rotates between them on occasion. And the guild as a whole has shaken off all the old chains to become a blossoming active guild with strong, stable leadership.
Plans are in place for continuing on into Guild Wars 2, to take shape later as we know more about how exactly guilds will function there. Needless to say, most of our members plan on purchasing GW2 and rejoining the guild upon release.
When you join us: you're sitting down at the virtual open bar as a respectable comrade. You can chill out and enjoy your time without trolls or adolescent issues, start up a team for whatever crazy adventure you're after, or join someone that has their own crazy plan in mind. Be mindful that every week we are planning a group outing or two (hopefully challenging), and you can keep yourself posted either by the guild announcement or alliance & guild forums.
Come here to share a laugh, not too inappropriate of course, and get together to have fun with us and our wonderful alliance, without an overbearing sense of pressure to be great at the game (because we all have real lives to lead and don't need that kind of nonsense).
