This page is currently a guideline draft. If the draft is expanded and consensus is reached on the talk page, it will become an accepted guideline. |
Be civil towards other users on Guild Wars Wiki. Incivility is roughly defined here as behavior that causes an atmosphere of greater conflict and stress.
Examples[edit]
Petty examples of incivility:
- Aggressive rudeness.
- Belittling contributors because of their language skills or word choice.
- Calling someone a liar, or accusing him/her of slander or libel (even if true).
- Ill-considered accusations of impropriety of one kind or another.
- Judgmental tone in edit summaries ("snipped rambling crap").
More serious examples of incivility:
- Indecent suggestions.
- Slander or libel.
- Personal attacks, such as harrassment.
- Racial, ethnic, sexual, and religious slurs and disparaging analogies.
- Vandalism.
Suggestions for responding to incivility[edit]
- Respond with greater civility and respect. Many editors will moderate their tone to match yours.
- Ignore it. Operate as if the offensive comments do not exist.
- Walk away. Edit elsewhere for a while and return when tempers have cooled.
- Remember that you don't have to like an editor as a person to appreciate that they're also working for the good of the project.
- For clear cases of serious or ongoing incivility, consider making a comment on the offender's talk page, and, if the behaviour continues, arbitration.
