"This election is for one bureaucrat seat for the 6 month term of July 1, 2009 – December 31, 2009. "[edit]
This election is not for jokes, trolling, general idiocy, or bad parody. It is also not the place or time for social commentary. I tagged all the joke nominations for deletion with, quite honestly, the expectation they will be deleted - but I want to make sure the other sysops are on the same page I am before it happens. I'm tired of constant elections, but I'm even more tired of bureaucrat elections being complete jokes.
The stupid shit that has been going on is going to stop. I don't want to start banning people, and even though I am irked by the actions of some of the more troll-y users, I have not yet banned anyone - but I want it clear that this is not acceptable. Take the election seriously. Nominate only those candidates who would do an okay job as a bureaucrat. I'm not going to bash any self-nominations, as those are generally a big step for newer users, but it's absolute crap for people to be nominating Gaile Gray or Shard for the bureaucrat seat. It's old. It got old the second time Eloc nominated himself, and it was definitely old by the fifth time he did so. Go watch some TV. Go play some Guild Wars. Just stop messing with the already needlessly complicated and bloated procedure called bureaucrat elections. If you don't care about it, fine - go away. Edit your userspace. Troll your friends' talk pages. Just keep it away from the bureaucrat pages. -Auron 11:17, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- *cough*, anywho I agree. It gets old and unfunny fast. --Shadowphoenix 11:30, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Just curious, but what was your logic on some of those tags? Some of them I get (Gaile, Shard), but you didn't tag Comic Sans (for instance)? Freedom Bound 11:31, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- BCrat elections are serious business. Frosty 11:32, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think I had that tab open but closed it before I hit save. Or something.
- @Frosty - I don't want them to be super srs. I want them to be remotely serious. We're not even close with this one. -Auron 11:44, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- While I would like to encourage members of the community to participate in the elections, I would have to agree with Auron that this round has quickly become more of a farce than normal, and it is tiring, and saddening. While none of this is life and death, it also isn't (or at least shouldn't be) tongue in cheek. -- Wyn 11:49, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Agree Auron. Frosty 11:52, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed with Auron. Although these elections seem to draw some joke candidates, this election seems to have a majority of them. I'm already unhappy with how the BC system works (in regards to term length) and personally I think it needs overhauled, however having people basically mocking the system and the wiki with their pointless entries is somewhat saddening. I don't mind a wee bit of banter on this page, but people really are taking it too far. -- Salome 12:02, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not exactly sure why there is an influx of unneccesary nominations, but I agree that it needs to be stopped. I don't mind the Bcrat system as it is, but I think the nomination system especially needs an overview and possible full overhaul; its always here that we get some of the worst jokes on the wiki, imo. -- Wandering Traveler 14:02, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Proposition[edit]
We should cancel this election. It's just the weekly trollfest... --DAVA 14:18, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, so how do you propose a new bureaucrat is selected without an election? Misery 14:25, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Just because some people are too stupid to understand that an election is something more serious, there is no reason to cancel it. Just vote against those, and everything is fine.. poke | talk 14:35, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- I heard Mickey Mouse was a popular write-in in the US.
- How long until this becomes a popularity contest and someone who shouldn't be elected gets elected? Sure, the "reasonable" users would oppose that, but how many srs bsns wiki people are there? :/ Raine - talk 16:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Um...why did I get removed. Was I considered a troll? I know I have no chance of winning (and really don't care), but just so everyone's aware....I'm not a troll. Karate Jesus 16:47, 11 June 2009
- A self-nomination with an explanation that you are trying to get the most opposes does not really sound like a serious nomination; so no, you were not seen as a troll, just your election was seen as a joke election. poke | talk 16:50, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

- The only way the community could convince me it was what they wanted would be for them to change their votes, and I don't believe that will happen, nor should it. If Misery wins, I'm sure he will do a fine job as bcrat for this community. As I said on the talk page of my nomination, I only wish to serve the community in the way they think is best. If they wish to keep me as an active sysop, so be it. -- Wyn 03:50, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Personally, I think you should stay as Sysop, rather than be BCrat. It would entail further work, which I think would stress you out, even if you could somehow manage to do it. And we don't need a stressful Wyn. =P -- §Lacky§ Talk 04:04, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Wiki becrat elections are worse than american mayor elections sometimes, imo. 219.75.7.78 15:16, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- @Lacky, if you think that Bcrat is more work than sysop, you don't understand the positions, and should re read the policies. -- Wyn 15:40, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- That's not what I meant at all. I meant that, it will add on more work for you to do, which could possibly stress you out, and we don't want you to be stressed out because you're a sysop. -- §Lacky§ Talk 02:29, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Voting[edit]
This isn't an issue really for this election, but I see what people have been trying to do this time, so I am throwing this out there. "A user must have made more than 100 edits (excluding the User, ArenaNet, and Guild namespaces) before this stage." That statement states that voters need 100 edits BEFORE THIS STAGE. There is no clarification as to whether this is before the stage starts or ends, whatever the assumed meaning is we can't assume with policies that don't designate us as being allowed to do so. Since this policy doesn't properly state before or after, the limit must include voters if they have 100 edits before the voting phase ends. This is simply because voters can establish 100 edits before this stage, whatever that may mean. So as a result the policy needs to be updated for when the next election rolls around, because if it stays as is it remains unclear. Like I said before this isn't an issue this time around or at least probably isn't going to be, but if something did come down to this policy being unclear it would cause some unrest for sure.~>Sins WDB 17:22, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Go to bookshelf and get the dictionary.
- Look up "Before". Drogo Boffin 17:28, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Your missing a part, you need a "begins" or "ends" to finsih off the statement. I think he's after a more specific statement, which is needed. — Jon Lupen 17:30, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- The way it is stated makes it obvious that it is before the start of the stage, since the stages are listed. Drogo Boffin 17:33, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- It is not unclear. The time period from the start of the stage to the end of the stage is not known as "before", it is known as "during". If we start redefining the word "before" to also include "during", then no policy is clear, because we have already thrown away the basic precepts of language, and there is chaos. - Tanetris 17:35, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- @sins: no points for trolling. --Riddle 17:40, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- It has always been understood that the contributions must be made before the voting starts. I agree with Tane that if you are going to start picking apart every word in every policy, we might as well just let chaos reign. I also agree w/Riddle that you are simply trolling to troll Sins. -- Wyn 18:27, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
