Names

LAGG ????

What happened to that floating "we're not ANet" box? We're not ANet, we have no idea. Judging from the fact that I can connect fine, I'm guessing it's on your end. Then again, ANet's got scheduled maintenance coming up soon, so maybe not. --Jette 16:33, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Check a speed test site like speedtest.net or speakeasy.net/speedtest and watch for significant dropoffs in performance. If you have them, you probably want to check with your ISP. If not, check after speakeasy's maintenance (my performance has been about 100ms slower than normal lately, so it's possibly A*Net's end). --Falseprophet 23:05, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Not Enough Energy For Ursan

How the heck can I use the ursan skill for Blood washes Blood if my energy is never any higher than 8? I have tried this quest numerous times and the same results I can never acheive the energy needed to use the Ursan skill to take the char barricades down, thus not able to do the completion of the quest. I don't know what to do and nobody will give me help. I have tried to do this over and over and no luck so I can not progress in the game of Jora's reclaiming her honor etc. The thing is I have even just stayed standing on a spot after killing all things in the path. I read the wiki help and it seems simple but it never works for me. I can not use the ursan skill at all to break the barricades even standing for ten minutes hoping it was just a matter of time. Never is the energy high enough and I can not use the ursan skill. I am vey frustrated, I did the other ursan type skills so I know how it should work, but this one does not. Thanks. All professions, regardless of level, have an innate capacity of 20 energy. I assume therefore that you have weapon or armor modifiers which are reducing your energy. Try removing/unequipping these items and your energy should get to a high enough level.- TheRave (talk) 10:44, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello again, thanks for the insight. Not sure what is meant by modifiers? I usually have the 20 energy whenever wherever I use this ursan skill.

This is why it is so odd. This is the only time the ursan skill won't allow me to use it, and I have only 8 for energy max. I use only the one weapon and I wait to be sure I have max use of the ursan. To no avail. I am also a level 20 for some time. This is the only quest I have had any issues with the ursan skill, I so want to get on with the game storyline and be done with Blood Washes Blood. Have to say this is an awesome game, the best I have seen or had the joy of playing and it nevers fails to amaze me the work gone intol it. I would love to be as good as some. I totally don't understand terms like, Perma or all the other abbreviations. I am very confused by them. SO maybe also you could tell me where do we look these terms up so I can understand the other players and learn better what they are saying to each other in the chat. What's your death penalty looking like? With the default 20 energy, and 60% DP, you'd have 8 energy, and not enough to invoke Ursan Blessing. There are items to clear death penalty, and some left-over candy canes from Wintersday are an excellent fix. The other solutions, of course, are just to keep your death penalty above 50% or, barring that, carry a staff with additional energy on it (just to equip to invoke the Blessing when you need it). --Mystisteel 04:03, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

The only way to get back as leader is to get him to make you the leader again. Unfortunately, since it is your mistake, support is unlikely to help you. Another way to get back as leader is for the current leader to be off-line for 2 months, then the most active officer is automatically made the leader.- TheRave (talk) 11:34, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Just got highspeed.

Hello, I just got highspeed on my home computer and now Guild Wars won't load. It's stuck on the Connecting to page. I've checked the Play NC pages and Haven't found an answer yet. My highspeed provider is hughsnet (a satalite provider) So does anyone have an Idea about this? As far as I understand, satellite connections require a separate method of uploading data, usually dial-up. Is that connected? Do all your other online applications work correctly? Biscuits 15:20, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, it looks like HughesNet doesn't require dial-up uploading, so it's not that. You may also want to try contacting official support, or your ISP's support. Biscuits 15:29, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Still having trouble with it. My service provider says it's because of latency in the satalite system. I don't see that this would stop it from connecting anyone else use a satallite provider for this game?

I'm not using satellite, but before you even start, read about latency of Satellite broadband. That said, in most cases you are better off with dialup for gameplay and broadband for downloading of updates. If you have both satellite and dialup access (some providers offer it free if you use a local number they own), try a hybrid setup - connect to broadband and use a Command line launch of the game with the -image flag. That downloads a complete image of the Guild Wars data files which should vastly speed up your load times. Disconnect from broadband and connect to dial-up for playing. If you just have satellite and are willing to live with the latency issues, check to see if port 6112 is open on your firewall (both Windows and the Satellite modem).

Ether Prism

Over time I've noticed several skills "nerfed" and buffed, but have never had a problem with any. As a general rule, I have accepted each change as a necessary evil to somehow balance out gameplay. However, I logged in today only to notice Ether Prism doesn't even have the same function as it originally had. I'm more or less looking for a more specific "why?" than simply 'to balance out gameplay'. Signet of Capture {info I need not found in wiki}

For some reason, none of the skill trainers are offering the signet of capture. Make sure you're trying to buy them from a skill trainer far enough into the game. For instance, at or before Lion's Arch, they won't be offered. I'm not sure what the first place they are offered is in each campaign. -- Lord Ehzed 01:37, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Wait... you've done BOTH signet of capture quests, from Prophecies and Nightfall? I know for a fact you can't do that on one single character, so you obviously used a different character for each of those quests. So perhaps what we're overlooking here is that you're trying to buy a signet of capture on a different character (i.e., one that has not gotten far enough to do one of those quests itself)? --Dragon nataku 03:33, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Completing both SoC quests was quite possible at Nightfall's release. You can't do it any longer, but that doesn't mean that what you're saying is complete "fact". I've done them both on a single character, and perhaps he has, as well. --Mystisteel 03:58, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

If you purchased an elite skill with balth faction, it becomes available for only your heroes and PvP characters. To use an elite skill in PvE, you can either use an Elite Tome to acquire one you have unlocked or use a Signet of Capture to capture one from a boss of your profession. -- Wandering Traveler 21:09, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Why is it when I have done all the missions for The Flameseeker Prophecies and when i recieved my book and ask Gordon in Lions Arch to fill it and I paid him to do so he only filled 5 pages and will not fill any of the other pages

The missions must have been completed after the introduction of the books themselves. If you did "Hell's Precipice" 3 years ago, it won't go into the book - you have to do it again. --Mystisteel 04:08, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

A yellow arrow on a skill means that that skill is an enchantment. When a player/NPC is enchanted a similar yellow arrow will appear on their health bar.- TheRave (talk) 06:18, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Rune Stacking

The head garment of the ranger has +1 skill (stacking) if I add the same skill +1 rune on that or any piece of armor would they stack to +2. The rune article says No but it is not very clear. Short answer, the headgear and the rune will both benefit you. Long answer, only runes don't stack, and since headgear isn't a rune, it can stack. Even longer answer, items that say stacking will always stack; items that say non-stacking will select the highest benefit from among the overlapping runes. --JonTheMon 04:32, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Fur Square Trader

After thoroughly searching the site I still haven't manage to find any rare crafting materials sellers who would theoretically sell Fur Squares, are there any? All rare crafting material traders sell all rare crafting materials, unless they're sold out. Which doesn't happen often for fur squares. --Jette 10:29, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Please note that there are Crafting Material Traders/ Material Traders (which only sell regular mats), and Rare Material Traders, which sell, obviously, rare materials, which a Fur Square qualifies as. Make sure you are talking to the appropriate trader, and that you use the scrollbar in their menu to scroll down if you don't see the material you want at the top of the list. There is no statue for the Eye of the North in the Hall of Monuments, until you achieve Master of the North, which means all the primaries, in both nm and hm, all the dungeons, in both nm and hm, vanquishing all areas, and clearing 100% of the map. That's not exactly true. There's 1031 total points you can achieve, which means, you can get away with either 69% cartography, or without completing one of the following: one HM dungeon, three NM dungeons, or two vanquishes (with 100% cartography), and still achieve MotN max title. — Rappy 19:26, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Finished missions will have different icon to incomplete missions (The icons vary from level of completion (masters etc) and which campaign you are using (Though the realm of torment does have different icons to the rest of nightfall)) You can also track many missions in Storybooks, though some are not included.Also, this probably belongs in Help:Ask a game question. --Kroulee talk 02:47, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

How do I type in foreign language?

I can switch my languages in options, but how can I type in the language I switched to? In my case, I switched to Japanese, but it will only allow me to type in Romanized form. This is not an effective method for communicating in Japanese. How can I get my keyboard to be acknowledged as Japanese (Japanese keyboards can switch between Roman lettering and kana, but when I try to switch to kana, it won't let me!)?

Because I lived in America, I bought the American game, and thus my account is American, and all the subsequent game packs are on that account. Is that the problem? I'm from Japan, and I just want to talk with people in my language while in game... 220.26.44.14 08:50, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Bekki

Please note that in American/European districts, you cannot type in kana/kanji in the following chats: allchat, tradechat, teamchat. You can, however, do so in guild or allychats, and pm's. (well, more accurately, you can type in kana/kanji, but you cannot send the message (it will be highlighted in red) unless it's guild/allychat or pm. You can type in any chat in Japanese if you are in a guildhall, though)). This also applies to Chinese and Korean languages, as well. Because Anet is annoying. If you go to Asian districts, though, you can type in those languages in any chat (although there are generally never many people there). Also, if you follow Biscuit's instructions, you may need to install Asian language packs on your computer (when you set up your computer for the first time it generally has an option to install these or not, and if you did not then you will have to in order to be able to type in Japanese, etc.). Once you add Japanese keyboard settings, the default input will be English/romaji (listed as "half-width alphanumeric" in the menu I am about to mention). If you use the language bar in the taskbar, when you switch to JP, next to JP there will be a large A. Click on this and you can switch to hiragana or katakana in various forms (half-width or full width). If you want to type kanji, you type the hiragana, say... いぬ, then press spacebar before hitting enter, and you can choose the kanji you wish to use, like 犬 (はい、犬が大好き... and I am uncreative...). Why are some people able to substitute hero's for henchmen?

Why do I see other online players able to group with multiple hero's in G.W.E.o.T.N. In fact, I have a PvP character who has unlocked most all hero's. And used my PvE character to unlock a hero in my Guild Hall. I am aware of the notice that hero's are used in only PvP during the time they are unlocked. But I joined with a character who used hero's insted of henchmen in Eye Of The North campaign. Then the character dropped out of the quest and i was left with his hero's to use. Cool. So how do I take the benefit of using my unlocked hero's instead of henchmen? I know I've seen it done. Can someone help sort this out for me? Thank you. You can use your heroes at any time in PvE once you unlock them in PvE. Perhaps you should read this as it should answer all of your questions. Elric 01:03, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Zinn's lair

How come the wiki says that zinn's labratory and the golem tutorial simulation place are in meguma when when I use the golem manual think and click on the enter mission I appear in the northern shiverpeaks?

This happened to me at least two times in en. There was a message that says your progress will not be saved as your experiencing the story out of sequence. Is this because someone on the team has already done the mish in their handbooks? Whats goin on thanks----David

This happens when you are doing missions with a foreigner character on another continent. For example when you come with Canthan character to Lions Arch and do missions before that (i.e. Ascalon missions). There are some of the EotN primaries that can be done out of order, but they will not count until you have completed the prerequistes and done them in the proper order. If you go to List of Eye of the North primary quests the quests listed last, Heart of the Shiverpeaks, and Destruction's Depths can be done by simply joining a party doing them, however, you will not get credit for them if you have not completed the Norn/Asuran/Vanguard quest lines first. -- Wyn 23:42, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

thank you for answering but this is not when the error message occurs. The first time it happened i was doing a ebon vanguard quest with two friends. i did the quests before it but the error message happened.The second time it happened was on an asuran quest. I was supposed to meet blimm outside of rata sum. After meeting blimm, what i think happened is that one of the other players did the quest already so i automatically got sent to the dungeon after talking to blimm. Then, on the final dungeon, I got that error message. The second time i did that quest, i had to join a group that could talk to blimm because when i tried to talk with him, he thinks that i completed his quest so i could not meet him outside. This second time i did the quest, i traveled to the dungeon with the group instead of being teleported there. This second time I completed the quest and the elusive golemancer oola quest got crossed off of my list. Can you tell me whats goin on?----David

Follow YOUR quest log and assure you are the leader of your group. If you do quests out of order, it can cause chaos and you will get nowhere even after doing the quests several times. — Rappy 00:14, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for answering. I have always followed my quest log. This never happened to me when i play through the quests by myself. It happened when i play with other players who i think have already done the quest.Like on the blimm quest, i got sent to the dungeon immediately after i talked to blimm. they have already done the quest, so they sent me to the dungeon immediately after. when i completed the quest successfully i had to travel to the dungeon on foot with the other players, i could not skip out on the exploration. Am i right in thinking its other players fault? ----David

Jennur's Horde mission

I took the "Ronjok in Danger" branch in the Nightfall campaign, and passed by the "Jennur's Horde" mission. I finished the whole campaign, and now I'm trying to go back and master all the missions for the title, and can't seem to get the "Jennur's Horde" mission anymore. If you go to the mission outpost, you should be able to enter the mission as normal now that you've beaten the campaign, if I remember correctly. If you're looking for the quest to reach the mission, you won't find it; you don't need it. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 18:59, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

I have lost my Quests. Where can I find them again?

I pressed the L Quest Log and closed the given quest (or mission) by mistake.Now theres no new quests at all anymore. Both Active quests and Quest summary are empty for two days already...

Because I`m so new and just started this GW I really don`t know what to do to go on . Please help me to get my quests back.

You an always re-obtain your quests you've abandoned by speaking to the person who gave you the quest in the first place. Bear in mind that we won't know which quest you were on, so telling us where you are in the game would help us point to the NPCs you should be talking to so you can restart your primary question chain. --Mystisteel 19:35, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

To regain a quest, simply talk to the person who originally gave it to you. If you don't remember that, just go around to NPC's with ! above their heads and see if that is the quest you want. Favor is not something specific to you and your play, it's something game wide. You need to keep working through the story line, see List of Prophecies quests to find out what quest you need to take you to your next mission. -- Wyn 02:40, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Just add all the access keys to your account. You don't necessarily need to install the other campaigns. Just add the access keys and play, the game will automatically download and install anything it needs.- TheRave (talk) 17:56, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

The Skill Packs will unlock all the skills for that campaign for use in PvP or by heroes. If you want to use a skill on a character you will have to learn the skills by buying it from a skill trainer or by using a tome.- TheRave (talk) 21:59, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

You will not be able to choose Dervish as secondary while you are in Cantha (Factions). You will need to travel to Elona (Nightfall) and use the profession changers there, as Dervish is a profession unique to Nightfall.- TheRave (talk) 22:20, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, the profession changer in Factions (Senji) lets you pick the Nightfall professions as well.

Canthan New Year -- Finale Meal preparations

In looking over the announcement for the Canthan New Year, the various ingredients for each chef are listed. However, when attempting to collect on these, each chef I go to says I don't have all the intgredients (and, I'll admit that I do not). It is not clear from the announcement or from the wiki that the player has to have ALL ingredients.

Insofar as this limits the number of players who CAN get all the ingredients, I believe that either the announcement should be changed to make this absolutely clear, or the Imperial Chefs should accept those ingredients which a player has been able to collect.
