Collector's Location Map

Ooh, this is a nifty page! i have lots of questions, but I don't want to start spamming with them just yet. I'll ask what I'm working on right now.

Well, the question is, I've been taking screen shots of collectors as I go along. I know we don't have to take screen shots of the placement of where the collectors are, but I did anyway, but since i was mapping at the same time, it doesn't show a direct path to the collectors, should I still put it up anyway? Or should I just give a description of where the collector are at?--Zemmy 12:31, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

According to the formatting guidelines for NPCs, all that is required is a description in the body of the article; however, if you have the map, I'd suggest you add it! There's a section in there that talks about "NPCs of high interest" and maps; I personally always find maps to be helpful (I even get lost IRL =P) Hope that helps! MisterPepe talk 12:38, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
Go ahead and upload the versions with the messy paths, Zemmy, I'll rework your screenies to have direct routes in the same style as I did for the artisans maps. If artisans get maps, so should collectors. :) --Dirigible 12:42, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
Will do. Thanks for replying. Uploading I go ;)--Zemmy 12:46, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Hard Mode

what... are we going to do about hard mode, it means every creature in the game has 2 levels, 2 sets of skills, and drops, i think various formatting guides need re-working, the monster infobox should probably have a separate field for hard mode level. Also for missions and for explorable areas we need some sort of formatting set out for hard mode information --Lemming64 12:51, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

That's really a discussion for Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Locations - rather than a policy discussion page, this is really just meant for questions about "How do I do this" I'll update the header to make that a little more clear. MisterPepe talk 12:59, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
Discussions have already started, but they are a bit spread out. Discussion for missions, for NPCs, and for the NPC infobox changes. And as Pepe said, this is probably a question for GWW:CP, I guess. Boh, as long as questions get an answer, I don't really mind where they're asked. :) --Dirigible 13:03, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Cleaning up unncessary capitalizations

It's me again! yep... anyway, I've came across a few of the pages I've been a bit "shift key" happy, if you know what i mean. I didn't know it was supposed to "Cane male Mesmer" rather than "Cane Male Mesmer". I've done a lot of this on armor as well with the links and it's been screwing up a few people who have been uploading pictures to the right name without using the links. anyway, real question is, should I just leave it as it is since there has been people who already uploaded the stuff over it the wrongly named links, or should I correct the links, put a delete tag on the old picture, and replace the new link with a new picture?--Zemmy 12:42, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

For pictures that have already been uploaded under the miscapitalised name, there's no need to reupload them with the correct case, I'd say, just leave them as they are. Uniformity and consistency in filenames is a good thing, but it's not all that important. Eventually it will all become chaotic anyways. :) --Dirigible 13:11, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Remove empty pages in userspace

When I was testing how to create and edit pages in the wiki, I created some subpages in my userspace. After testing, I removed the content, but could not delete the pages completely. Should I leave them just blank or is there a tag to mark them as "to be deleted"? Der moon 11:34, 30 April 2007 (EDT)

You can add the tag at user's request if you nno longer require them :) User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 11:36, 30 April 2007 (EDT)

Hidden info

How do I create hidden information? For example, if I were to list information that may be a spoiler on a talk page and want the information to be hidden but still be viewable by clicking a link what would I need to use - wiki-code wise? I've tried in the past but found it to only work for IE or Firefox but not both. Thanks. --File:VallenIconwhitesmall.JPG Vallen Frostweaver 15:03, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

We can't do it here on the GWW, NavFrame isn't installed. Try bringing it up in Requests for technical administration maybe, to see how the others feel about installing that here. --Dirigible 18:43, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

Get my template working

I no longer want to "spam" recent changes to test my template... but I think I don't get it working right now...

My problem: I want to have the first param striked out if third param is omitted. The second part (</s>) seems to work, but first part (<s>) not. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks for your help. MSorglos 15:44, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

Try replacing:
!{{#if:{}||<s>}}{}{{#if:{}||</s>}}<br>
with:
!{{#if:{}|{}|<s>{}</s>}}<br>
It should work, I think. --Dirigible 18:31, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks a lot - it is working! - MSorglos 03:38, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Whitespace is stripped out of templates and parameters, so you can add spaces to most of that to make it clear where one template ends and another parameter begins. It makes things a lot easier when you're counting braces. LordBiro 04:45, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for your advice. I still don't know why my version did not work with that two ifs... combined version works. Is this some wiki-autofixing of code? (I noticed that the generated sourcecode had <s></s> generated for first part instead of only <s>) - MSorglos 04:51, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
It's hard to say for certain, but it sounds like it. LordBiro 04:52, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Nevermind... my template works now. Thanks for your help and advices. - MSorglos 05:00, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
I created a web based utility that accomplishes everything you are trying to do. You could check it out at http://gwtrack.roharsroughnecks.com. It lets you track all of your characters all at once, and review all the information in a single summary page. I've been working with Anet to get the thing listed "officially". --User Rohar icon.jpg Rohar (talk|contribs) 08:19, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for that link... but I think I got enough logins for now (and won't track my other characters)... and my work is already almost done ;-)... I just don't get the 3 inner tables to start at same line (valign=top)... anybody that knows how to fix it? - MSorglos 11:54, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Try putting valign=top directly after "|-" for the new line. As I see in your table, you dont start with a "new line code". Put |- valign=top (new line) directly after the first {| (table starter), solved :) - Anja Anja Astor (talk) 12:01, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks Anja - now that tables are ready. Thanks to all who helped. - MSorglos 12:30, 4 May 2007 (EDT)

Personal navbar below/above "toolbox"

Is it possible for me to create a page in my userspace in such a way that I can get a custom navbar below or above the toolbox? Currently I'm using my userpage for shortcuts, but somehow it strikes me as odd that I am not able to get myself a custom navbar on the left of my screen... -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 17:50, 7 May 2007 (EDT)

Ok, this might be messy. Normally, you can just add something like this to your Special:Mypage/monobook.js:
addOnloadHook(function () {
addPortletLink("p-navigation", 'http://google.com', "Google");
});
Which would result in a new link to google popping up in the Navigation box. ("p-navigation" can be changed for "p-tb" if you want it in the toolbox, "p-personal", if you want it at the top near the My Preferences/logout links, or p-cactions if you want it to appear as a tab, next to the article/discussion/edit/history tabs).
Our wikibits.js sucks though, and it doesn't have addPortletLink(), so you might want to grab that from my monobook, User:Dirigible/monobook.js, and add it to yours, (I have it there in order to be able to add some similar tabs at the top of each user page).
If you want to do anything fancier than that, maybe it's worth using the Navigation shortcuts script. --Dirigible 19:01, 7 May 2007 (EDT)

Images

There's probably a page that will answer this question, but i haven't found it yet. anyway, the question is, what if I uploaded a picture for a bug example or maybe something to say "See, this type of whatever does exist." like i did for Vabbian Defender. Should I have still put it under User Name Blah and the user image template?--User Zemmy Signature.png Zemmy»talk 16:45, 14 May 2007 (EDT)

Yes, pretty much: that image is only going to be used by you to exemplify something; it's not going to have its own page. Bit of a grey area though :D --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 16:49, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
Actually, I don't think it applies. The user image specifically mentions it being in the user namespace. The signature icon is already an exception. So I think either the template needs some rewording, or the guideline needs to clarify things. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:42, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
Duh, of course you are right! Maybe there's a need for either temporary or example - for things that are posted to prove something drops something, or armor aberrations and suchlike. --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 23:37, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Pipe and |

Does anyone know why wiki's tablecode handles pipe as a real pipe ( | ), but functions like #if, #ifeq and #expr does not? (No need to change it, as it makes most of our table based infoboxes work :P) - anja talk (contribs) 13:40, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

When a template or parser function is called, the very first step in the process is identifying the separators between the different arguments/definitions. This separator is explicitly the pipe "|" symbol. This excludes the HTML entity &#124; "|" and any pipes that may appear only after the content between the curly braces has been expanded, which is the case with pipe template. gives (that is, nothing).
Note that if you use , it will recognize it as a true separator pipe; thus gives A.
This is by design, and I think the reason is exactly the one you mentioned, it gives more flexibility. For the same reason it ignores even true "|" pipes if they are in piped links/image links, or if they are part of a contained template or parser function call. --Dirigible 20:05, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

Site now "Games" tagged?

I do the majority of my editing from work (yeah, I know) but as of last night, I can no longer access this site as my company's nanny software blocks it as "Games related." It never did that before - what happened? And can it be undone? I had the same problem some months ago with gw.gamewikis.org, but discovered through random googling that it can be accessed via secretgw.gamewikis.org - any chance of a similar "backdoor" for this site? --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 02:02, 20 May 2007 (EDT)

How to make my own Wiki (with the same coding as this and others i have seen)

Sorry to ask this question here, but I've been wanting to make a wiki for some time now, for my guild- and alliance mates to put in event info and stuff and just share things, but everything i tried didn't work like this one (and i kinda got used to these codings and stuff) so yeah, i'm only 15 so i guess if there's a free alternative to this, i'd really like to know, and if there isn't, oh well too bad, i guess i'll just go learn html and css xD. But yeah, i'd appreciate any reaction/help on this, thx in advance. -Marvellanius 14:09, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

See MediaWiki download page. There are links to installation and other documentation from there. -- ab.er.rant sig 02:09, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
The software is free for use, but you'll need to get it hosted somewhere, which is the tricky part. Some webhosts also support simplified installs (Dreamhost has one-click wiki installs, and it's rather cheap because of the shared bandwidth) which can be nice. Another option is using an ad-supported wiki host - free, but public and you have to deal with ads. If your guild/alliance has their own site/domain, the mediawiki software can be installed on that without too much trouble (php and an SQL database required, but it's pretty simple =P). MisterPepe talk 10:05, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks guys, I'll see if i can get anything hosted somewhere, but thanks again for your help :) -Marvellanius 17:01, 24 May 2007 (CDT)

Report a page

how can i report a page? i noticed vandalism on Guild:Jonas_Heeft_Een_Kutje62.59.45.16 17:33, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

The best way to do that would be to drop a line at one of the admins talkpage. Also, using the delete-template and providing the argument "vandalism" will get it noticed by the admins. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 17:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
I'd actually suggest posting at Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard (shortcut: GWW:NOTICE) instead of any particular admin's talk page. It's just more likely that another admin will notice it early if it's on the noticeboard. It's there exactly for this purpose. :) --Dirigible 18:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
I think the simplest thing to do is just to edit the offending page and replacing everything with this: "Vandalism". -- ab.er.rant sig 08:42, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Add a Guild in the guild pve list

How can it be that a guild - added like above - with starting Letter "I" is shown in the Part for "G" in PvE Guilds? How can i fix my guild entry there? Thanks

It is sorted with it's full name, which really is "Guild:<your guild name here>". To make it sort under your guild name instead, you type . I don't know if this is allowed, but I can see nothing talking against it in our policy or formatting. - anja talk (contribs) 15:15, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Page Title

Is there a way to set a page title? I'm looking for a way to show a title of my character, rather than my wiki username/character name. - Tarun 20:03, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

AFAIK, no, as the page title is intended to display the name of the page as referenced by the wiki. You could add a section immediately after it that was solely your character's name. Aiiane-a.gif (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 20:06, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
No, there is not. The closest thing you can get to it is either doing a subsection (Like Aiiane mentioned) or a subpage (i.e. User:Tarun/Teh_Character). MisterPepe talk 00:57, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

monobook.css and other users...

Is there any way to make css accessible to others without them having to add snippets to their own monospace.css?

I created a template that I would like my guildies to be able to use, and it works fine.

But one of the things I added used some CSS to add a background image (since url() isn't allowed in wiki text) which I placed in my monobook.css page. Works great. Until I'm not logged in.

I can see that this could potentially be abused and would understand why the answer might be no, but would still like to know how to do what I'm trying to achieve. How do people approve design changes and such if they can't see subtle differences? They add stuff to their own monobook just to view another user's page?

Thanks! Thulsey 05:57, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

It's probably too much of a frivolous change to be approved for the site-wide CSS. While that would be the way to do it, it's pretty unlikely that that'll happen. If I were you, I'd put that particular bit of code on another css page, and do a - any user that puts that line of code in their css file will get the changes.
The other option is to re-write your template. If you've noticed on the skill pages, there's a background image built in. Take a look at Template:Skill infobox and you'll see that it uses the code:

<div class="skill-image"> </div>

Using a similar bit of code should give you the effect you're looking for without having to make a css change. MisterPepe talk 06:13, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
To kinda "publish" your css to other users, I think you can have them add something like the following to each of their css file:
@import url("/index.php?title=User:Thulsey/mypage.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css");

--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Ab.er.rant .

Gonna try the above suggestions, thanks. As for Template:Skill infobox, that's the skill image, not the background profession image I was going for, so not quite the effect I wanted, but thanks. Much appreciate the suggestions and this gives me new areas to go explore. Thulsey 06:22, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
While it uses the css class "skill-image," there's nothing to prevent you from using it with a profession icon. That's why I suggested it =P MisterPepe talk 06:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Public domain

I just saw Template:User PD and Category:Users/Guild Wars Wiki/PD for users to declare their contributions to be public domain. Can someone more enlightened in all those licensing stuff explain to me whether the public domain declaration makes any difference in light of GFDL? -- ab.er.rant sig 03:23, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

By declaring your content to be released into the public domain, you relinquish all claim to the material. You're saying, "Everyone in the world now owns this material and can use it freely." Public domain content can be posted on the wiki as everyone automatically has the rights to do so. Further, this means that someone could take your public domain content, extend it however they wish, and use it in any manner they see fit, including under their own restricted-use license agreement. This is why many contributors prefer the GFDL -- with the GFDL, others can take and extend your content, but their extensions must also be released under the GFDL.
Public domain is the most free of all information status, but somewhat perversely, it is also the easiest to incorporate into non-free publication. The GNU licenses are "viral," in a sense -- they make their subjects mostly free, while requiring that anything based off them is also mostly free.
I am not a lawyer, and in fact am just a random guy on the Internet. :)
Tanaric 03:52, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
I see. That means I can actually copy those users' contributions back to GuildWiki. -- ab.er.rant sig 03:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Correct. If you wanted. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 04:00, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Yup. PD allows anyone anywhere to use that content in any way they want. Someone on GuildWiki can just copy/paste anything I've done here without any limitations, without needing to give any credit, without needing to bother with any license incompatibilities, without needing to worry about any conditions imposed upon them by the license. Which is one of the two main reasons why I personally favour PD over any copyright license. The second important reason is that I personally couldn't care less if someone makes a profit by modifying something I've contributed and doesn't also make those modifications freely available to the public. The way I see it, those modifications are their work, they have all rights to release it under any terms they see fit, who am I to force them adopt any particular license? If someone isn't interested in those modifications, the original contributions are still free in the public domain. (Basically, copyleft ftl!) --Dirigible 04:40, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Re-uploading an image

Help! :)

I am trying to re-upload a file for someone. It's a jpg image and when I upload it to a new, cropped size all it does is change the display width and height, but the image is not cropped on the file page, the actual image, and the page that links to it.

It's not a cache issue, since I cleared my cache in Firefox and checked it in two browsers, one of which didn't have that image cached. It did the same thing. When I revert to the old image and then view my now 'older' version via file history, it displays correctly cropped and re-sized.

Is this a known issue, am I overlooking something, or am I doing something wrong? Though I'm doing this to a user image, I can see this happening to stuff in the main namespace since we're lacking many screenshots around here... - Thulsey Zheng - talk 02:53, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

If you're referring to Image:User Arcane Guardian Legendary guardian.jpg I can see two different versions, a large one and a cropped one. If it's the server's cache not yours that's the problem, you can get the server to update any images/inclusions by forcing it to purge its cache. The easiest way to do this is to make a small edit to the page (which you can then revert).
Yes, that's the image in question. Thanks for the reply, that solution seems logical. Will give it a go! - Thulsey Zheng - talk 04:11, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

How Do I renounce my guild?

I have created a guild and now have decided to end it. No one has joined, please help.

If you're talking about an actual in-game guild, this isn't really the place to ask (it's for questions about the Wiki itself), but to disband a guild, open the Guild window ingame, then click on the small portrait icon to the left of your name in the Guild Roster and choose to Disband your guild. Guild page

Hi, I'm really new to this whole wiki thing, and I noticed that some gulds have their own page, how can I create my on guild page?

Thanks in advance,

Sari 15:09, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Guilds should help you get started. Another way is to choose a guild page you like, choose to EDIT it and copy/paste it into your own making all the necessary changes to reflect your guild information. The format is generally the same on all guild pages with a few exceptions. In those cases you may want to ask before you copy something that looks different from the norm. If you need more info on how to use the wiki I suggest using the FAQ's or the formatting pages you can find listed in the Wiki Community box on the main page. --File:VallenIconwhitesmall.JPG Vallen Frostweaver 15:18, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Revert

Whenever I want to revert a page, I fail to find the links that will give me the standard text saying Undo revision 198xxx by yyy (Talk). Is this something that is added through scripts, like poke's GWWT or Ale_jrb's GuildWatch, or is there an actual link for it? I hate to always have to think of stuff as a reason for reverting when all I want to do is go on a revert-frenzy... -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 00:25, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

When doing an "undo" you will get the standard message: "Undo revision 12345 by User (Talk)". When doing a revert you do not get a default message. It's just not implemented. See also Help:Reverting poke | talk 00:37, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

I am frustrated, i made a wiki site for my guild and got a message its about to be deleted. So I carefully looked at other sites & the example page u have provided & rules. After carefully editing its still marked for deletion: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild:Christian_Guild_Church. Why? Nokkien 17:19, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

You have to use the guild template on top and the Guild infobox template for general information about the guild. Please see also the Example Guild (which is noticed in the cleanup notice) for a perfect example. See also Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Guilds for more information. poke | talk 17:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
(edit) btw. I recommend you to just copy the example guild and change the details to fit your guild. poke | talk 17:35, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I would say that guild is required, but guild infobox is not. The infobox is part of the guidelines, so as long as the necessary information are presented in the article, I would say it should be acceptable. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:43, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Access-protected pages

I guess this is the most approppriate place to ask even though this question is not related to this wiki, but to another wiki project that I'm going to srart.

Is there a MediaWiki extension that allows for protecting pages from viewing/access of certain user groups, for example all regular users or all non-registered users? My wiki project would be greatly improved by this possibility. -- Gem (gem / talk) 15:52, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

There are a few options. For example, [6].
Unfortunately, there are some pretty big drawbacks associated with these extensions, such as:
 • Security issues
 • Caching must be disabled (which slows down the entire site)
 • Excerpts can still be seen in search results
 • Even if a page is restricted to, say, just the BCrats, sysops can still view any page on the wiki
Of all of the options, that one seems to be the least intrusive/have the fewest drawbacks, but there are some other extensions that work in a similar fashion: [7], [8].
Personally, I think the drawbacks outweigh the potential advantages, but (depending on the project) I guess there might be some uses where it would be worthwhile. MisterPepe talk 18:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. What a shame that it doesn't work fully. I'll need to think about it. -- Gem (gem / talk) 19:11, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Transfer character(s) to new account

Is there any way you can transfer characters from one account to another? Problem with wikicode

Ok, so I've been trying to make the contents box on my talk page appear on the right, beneath my archive box. However, I can only get it to appear next to it, like in the image. How can I get it so it goes below the archive box, or at least looks like it? Is it even possible? Right now I'm having to use a compromise whereby the table of contents is placed within the archive box template, which looks quite ugly (but not as ugly as the image above!). Thanks! --Santax (talk · contribs) 10:38, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I think that User:CoRrRan might be able to help you. He solved a similar problem with Gaile's talk page (though looking at the code for that may help too). You could always put both the template and the toc inside an additional div or table so that the toc isn't inside the template. Most of my successes with coding have been the result of trial and error but at times I've had to give up when things just don't seem to work for me. :S - BeX iawtc 10:49, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Hola. Add the clear tag between them. Like in: User:Karlos/Blah. The way you are doing it right now is you're putting the ToC inside he archive box. But I think it's doable if you put the div, then a clear then the TOCright thingie. --Karlos 10:49, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
The clear would push the content down the bottom of the archive box though wouldn't it? - BeX iawtc 10:52, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

How do you make your own user page on the wiki with those signs that say things about you, I.E. "<insert name here> is a member of the luxon faction>"?--Raph 21:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Click on your name (your userpage is automatically linked to from your signature) and start filling info in. It'll probably be plain at first; when you see ideas on others' userpages, you can copy the wikicode and paste it to your page. Userboxes are a good start, try adding User Luxon to your page. -Auron 21:43, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Do you know that if you click on your username in the topright corner of your screen you'll be taken to your userpage? If you then click on "Edit", you can change your userpage. If you then add User Luxon to your page, you will see the userbox appear on it. The easiest way it to click the edit button on their page and copy all the text, then copy that to your own page in the edit box. After than you can go through deleting and modifying the sections to make it appropriate to you. and finally it is nice to include a credit at the bottom to say where you got the page layout from. However some users have exceptionally complicated pages with subpages and templates and all sorts. Those require a bit of background knowledge to manipulate correctly.--Lemming64 23:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Pimp up my Special:Recentchanges

I wonder wether there is a way to pimp recent changes with these:

 1. highlight new Guild articles
 2. highlight other new articles
 3. highlight anon edits (where IP is given instead of user name)

Also I wonder wether it is possible to "sort" recent changes by categories (pic upload, blocking, user+user talk edits, main namespace edits, guild edits). Another would-be-nice feature: set maximum entries to 1.000 instead of 500. Any suggestions? - MSorglos (talk|contrib) 16:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Sounds like a job for monobook.js - while I've not seen a particular script that does what you're doing, there's a script in mine (User:Aiiane/monobook.js) that sorts my Watchlist by category, you might be able to adapt it. I think being able to highlight guild articles that wasn't created into the guild namespace would be more useful, although I can see how unlikely that would be to do. New articles is already "highlighted" by the "N" next to it isn't it? And for anon edits, I usually just hide registered users if I wanna check anon edits ;) :P -- ab.er.rant sig 01:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
It is possible, with the magic of CSS. See here. It makes new pages (but on Newpages, not Recentchanges) under 1000 characters long turn up light red and new pages under 100 characters long turn up a much darker red, to help with cleanup. --Santax (talk · contribs) 07:03, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Tables within tables?

I've been updating my User pages, and I'd like to show a normal style table within a table (ie a table with borders within a bordered, single cell table). I've seen this done on other users pages, but I can't see why theirs works and mine doesn't other than colours. I'd be grateful for pointers of how to address this problem. An example of what I mean can be seen here. Thanks Tasha Darke 17:31, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Do you have an example what you want? It's not clear for me, what your problem is. One thing that I noticed is that:
|- cellspacing="10px" valign="top" style="background:light; border:1px solid light;" align="center"
|- starts a new row but because of the rest of the attributes I think you want to create a new table at this point. Tables start only with {| attributes... poke | talk 17:37, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
That code was me trying to force the border to display. :) I can't find the example directly, I found it while browing for images to use. I think the best way to describe it is using another one of my pages (linky) where I've managed to get the borders to display, but I'd like them as the same colour edging and width as used on other borders on the page (on the character page thats the rt-color|dark). Thanks in advance. Tasha Darke 18:00, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, first for your sandbox. Use the following code for the inner table declarations:
{| style="background:light; border: 1px solid dark;" rules="all"
Second, your Character page. I can't image what you want to do, sorry ^^ Do you want to have a border for each cell or what? poke | talk 19:35, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Yup, so that all the row and column lines show in a similar manner to those surrounding the outer cell. Can you also tell me what the second code you posted is meant to do. Thanks Tasha Darke 20:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
(Edit) Reread that and it still didn't make sense. I'd like the outline of the table including the rows and columns of that table to be 1px wide and the rt-colour|dark color while allowing that table to be housed inside a cell of another table with similar code. I hope this is clearer. Tasha Darke 20:20, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
My code just says that there is a 1px border and rules="all" says that the border applies to all cells of the table.
My problem is that I don't understand why you need a table in a cell.. I changed your page now, maybe this is what you want. poke | talk 20:39, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Some more fiddling and I've got it worked out. User:Tasha_Darke/Characters That was what I was looking for. I ended up colouring the table the darker colour and each cell the lighter colour. Thanks for your help. Tasha Darke 21:01, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

wwwdotwikidot

As per this discussion on my talk page, I have discovered that something like User:Thulsey is resulting in a link to www.wiki.guildwars.com on my User page. Any idea why that happens or how to prevent it? All my tabs across the top link to www as well (Edit, Discussion, etc). - Thulsey Zheng - talk 03:43, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

The links will use whatever full domain you initially used to visit the site with - so if you have http://www.wiki.guildwars.com bookmarked, if you use that you'll be browsing the entire wiki with the www. prefix, whereas if you have http://wiki.guildwars.com bookmarked and used, you'll be browsing without it, at least until you manually enter in a url with or without the prefix. When specifying full domains in page links (which should be avoided when possible), the preferred format seems to be without the www. prefix, as that's how all links to the wiki off of http://www.guildwars.com are formatted. The best alternative is to use the following as the url: SERVER which will automatically use the same full domain as what the user is browsing with - thus making the entire process transparent. You can see an example or two in delete of this link format. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 04:19, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much - that shed some light on it. I guess somewhere I grabbed and bookmarked the wrong url, not sure how as I always manually get here with no 'www' in the address. Weird, but fixable, so thanks for the info, Aiiane. - Thulsey Zheng - talk 04:24, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Runes all appear in both the "Armor bonus" and "Runes" categories, but none of the rune pages have Category tags in them. How are they being included in those categories?

MarkusErronius 00:50, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

The runes for example use the Rune infobox template which automatically adds pages into the correct categories. poke | talk 00:54, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I figured it was something like that, but I'm new to Wiki editing. I see the infobox template has these tags " " so this explains why the "Dervish Rune of Minor Earth Prayers" sorts under "D" in the Armor bonus category and under "E" in the Runes category (name = Earth Prayers). What I don't understand is why runes on the Rune category page are grouped by name but the sort order between Minor, Major, and Superior is not consistent. I don't fully understand the "{PAGENAME}" construct for the sort key. Specifically, I don't see what the "|PAGENAME" part does. Does it mean to use PAGENAME if name is blank? That would explain the sort order. MarkusErronius 21:48, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
correct :) In templates parameters included like this {default} use "default" if the parameter is not set. poke | talk 22:35, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
What I forgot to say: The inconsistent order of Superior, Major and Minor Runes is because the sort key for all runes of one type is the type itself. For example: Dervish Rune of Superior Earth Prayers, Dervish Rune of Major Earth Prayers and Dervish Rune of Minor Earth Prayers; their sort key for the Rune category is "Earth Prayers" - regardless of their types. So it's random (or maybe depending on last change time) which appears where. But it's good you noticed that, I'm going to change that. poke | talk 22:42, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

AddOn versions

What version of DPL is this wiki using, where can I find this, and is A.Net's IT department actively going to implement version updates of the installed addons? (Currently DPL has a version 1.3.1, and from 1.2.9, a fix has been introduced to a problem raised by myself.) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 20:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

image

How can i, if i uploaded a picture, make it bigger or smaller in a page?

By typing . Change the 100px part to the width you desire. - anja talk 13:42, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

borders on images

GWW-shield.png

Why does the |border tag in image markup not work here? for example should display a light gray border around an image. It works on wikipedia, I am guessing it is a modification to the localsettings or something along those lines? --Lemming64 18:03, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Border? Do you have an example or do you mean that? poke | talk 18:19, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Having some trouble with my character tables

Im having some problems with my character tables, I am currently working on my character page in my sandbox here. However I cant seem to get the character tables to sit neatly next to each other and have the text and navbar display above them (similar to my other pages layouts). Anyone have any suggestions? oh and I dont mind if you edit my sandbox after all that is what it is there for, messing around in. :) --Alien User Alien Sig.png 18:17, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

How's that? -elviondale (tahlk) 18:25, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Can't edit while logged in

I've been trying to edit pages in the wiki for a quite a while, and only a small handful go through. Most of the time, my browser tries to download index.php instead of opening the edit box. I can't view the history on most pages either. Out of sheer boredom, I logged out, and was able to edit a page that moments before was blocked to me. When I logged back in, the page was messed up, and it tried to download index.php again, rather than edit. I've tried this with Firefox and IE, and both produce the same error.--12.107.231.89 05:04, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

How long has this been happening? Of particular note to me is your IP address. I don't want to ask your locale or ISP, but that might be the issue. -elviondale (tahlk) 05:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
It's been happening pretty much since day one. At first I thought it may have been just a glitch in the newly-coded wiki, but now it's apparent that it's something a bit more complex. As far as my locale, in in the southern half of the US.--12.107.231.89 11:55, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Do you have any Javascript in your monobook.js? poke | talk 11:55, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Don't think so. How would I check to be sure?--12.107.231.89 12:07, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Goto User:YourName/monobook.js - or just disable Javascript in your browser and try to login. poke | talk 12:10, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Use this link: Special:Mypage/monobook.js when logged in. Have you tried clearing your browser's cache? Switched to another browser? -- ab.er.rant sig 13:27, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
There's nothing in my monobook.js. I've cleared my cache on both browsers, and still no luck. My usual browser is Firefox, but I've tried this in IE as well, with the same result.--12.107.231.89 19:27, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
How is it you can edit now? Or is it because you're not logged in? I would try creating a second account and move your userspace over to it. If its still an issue, its either because of your ISP or your computer. Something about session handling seems to be an issue (imo) -elviondale (tahlk) 19:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
I just found the problem. Somehow the "Use external editor" preference was checked, and it tried loading the edit page into an external program. It's usually the simply stuff that gets me. Thanks for the help. (Formerly known as 12.107.231.89)--Pyron Sy 19:36, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

function #ifeq

For my Character page template, i'm trying to remove all code about mission with a function like {{#ifeq: {} | yes | | (mission information)}}. As i know that function, it should now display "(mission information)", because pvp is set to ' ', therefore activating the "unequal" string. But instead of that, only the first two headings and one { are shown. If pvp is set to "yes", the whole content gets removed as wanted. Does anyone have a clue what's wrong there? maybe the function has a 5th parameter? - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 14:24, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I would use {{ #if: {} | with pvp | without pvp }} then you simply give pvp a value for "with pvp" and leave it out for "without pvp".. poke | talk 14:28, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
(edit) Ah, and btw. everything in "with pvp" and in "without pvp" cannot have a "|" in it. Use pipe instead. poke | talk 14:29, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
edit conflict: i wanted to add this to my comment. and the thing with {pipe} just came to my mind, too. i'm just to lazy right now to replace all those pipes. i'm gonna do it later using word... thanks anyways - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 14:32, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Guild Editing on Wiki

I just made a page for my Guild. Down at the bottom of the page is a space to show who is the leader and the current members. I have tried to find a way to edit it and can't find one. I'd just like to know how do I do that? TheShadowNinja 04:37, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

That's the alliance template, for alliances (the leader guild and member guilds). If you edit your guild's page, at the bottom you'll see...

Just fill in the alliance leader guild's name after the equals sign for Guild1, and so on ("| Guild1 = Example Guild", et cetera). Please note that the guild pages policy does not allow full lists of your guild's individual members on the guild page. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 04:43, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Have you created a page for it on the wiki? And do you mean the category lists? - anja talk 08:08, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Just type in your guild name prefixed with "Guild:" on the url of your browser. For example, "/wiki/Guild:My Guild Name". Follow the instructions to create a guild page. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:30, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
