my friend wants to give me his guild wars account... my question is,do i just add his access key to my account or do i need to just have his email address & password and enter it in my log in screen? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.126.5.128 (talk).

If you're going to use all his characters/games, then you need his email and password. Access keys can only be used once, and from then on they are permanently tied to that account. If he's giving you the account, I'd recommend asking for his NCSoft account information as well, so that you can change all the info to be your own, including the email address and password if you so wished.

If you have an account of your own and want to use his as well, unfortunately there isn't any way to merge them, so if he has any campaigns you don't, then only his account will have access to them (or vice versa).

I am not 100% certain on ArenaNet's policy for giving someone an account, but I do know it is prohibited to share one, so you might want to contact support and ask them if there's a particular way to go about that, or if you'd be obligated to change the account information. ~FarloTalk 23:19, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Wanting to rearange my character avatars at the log in screen

I've check the FAQ sections but to the best of my knowledge have not seen if this is doable. I would like to arange my avatars in a certain order. Is this Possible? The frustrating part is that everytime i add a new character, it rearanges an order that i grow acustom too. May not seem like a big deal .. but too a person who suffers from a little OCD it makes all the Difference in the World. Thank you for your help an all that you an your team do for us... Unfortunately, it's not able to customize the order, you're limited to the order in which the game places the characters or the (two) options on the character select screen. Game updates can also rearrange your characters. The Feedback Portal is available to make suggestions such as these, but I actually think this has been suggested a few times already. -- FreedomBound 15:56, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Trial code

Hi i just got the free trial and i went into create account like it said but when i clicked on new guild wars account it says i need a serial key. I got the serial key off of my ncsoft account but it still wont work. Do i need to do something different because its a trial or what?

To be honest, I don't see why it would be different. Check to make sure the trial code didn't say it was an add-on for an existing account (for example, if it's a trial code for the expansion, Eye of the North, then you need access to one of the campaigns: Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall) and that you entered the code correctly. I can't find out what my serial number is for Guild Wars

Where did you buy it? If it's a box copy from the store, the code should be in a secured piece of paper, or on a credit card-like piece of plastic. If you bought it on steam, right click the shortcut to GW on your Steam games list and view the CD Keys. Note that you can't buy Guild Wars used. — Poki#3 (talk) 02:43, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

deleted

i got a virus and it deleated my gw program. can i download gw agian with the same disk?

Absolutely. The program being deleted will not affect your account; all of that data is stored on ArenaNet's servers, so once you re-install you can log in as normal. --ஸ Kyoshi 17:01, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Missing items!

1) Birthdays are notoriously inaccurate. Give it a bit.

2) If you were banned during the day you would've gotten a present, you get no gift. Yeah, it's BS.

3) If your inventory is full, clear a slot, log out, log back in, and the gift will be there. –Jette 03:09, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Guildwars unable to start up

I get the error message saying "Assertion: Unable to write patch file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\Gw.tmp' OsPatch.cpp(375) App: Gw.exe ProgramId: 1"

That's most likely because you don't have write permissions for that folder. Assuming you have administrator privileges and if you know how (or feel confident in your Googling abilities) you can give yourself full control or ownership of the Guild Wars folder, in this case 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\' . Another option is to re-install the game to a location you do have write access to, 'C:\Games\Guild Wars\' for example. Hope this helps and good luck! ~FarloTalk 07:55, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

In essence, anything that violates the EULA and Rules of Conduct is grounds for a ban/suspension. A short list of breaches and their outcomes is outlined here as well. In layman's terms you only have to be afraid of the banhammer if you're exploiting a glitch or exploit, botting, or otherwise unfairly gaining an advantage over other players, harassing other players, trading in-game items or accounts for real money, spamming, or scamming other players, etc. ~FarloTalk 20:13, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Umm... accounts don't ever run out, Guild Wars is free-to-play. If you mean the access code that came with your discs has already been used, then you either bought a used copy of the game or something got messed up on ANet's side. Another reason the account could expire is if you've been using a trial code. Check the box/wrapping again for a little leaflet thing that has the actual access key on it. ~FarloTalk 19:41, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Unable to access archive file??

When i start up guildwars it doesnt start up and says "Guild Wars is unable to connect to its archive file"... What do i do?

The archive file is Gw.dat, the multi-gigabyte juggernaut that holds all the local information GW needs to run (basically anything ANet could keep off their servers and on our hard drives). By default, it's located at "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.dat". On 64-bit Windows, it's at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\Gw.dat". Make sure that the file is in one of those places, and that you have permission to read and write to it. If you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you might not have the right privileges to write to program files. To get around this, right-click on your shortcut to Guild Wars and select "Run as administrator." Click yes or okay if any prompts pop up, and see if that lets you play. If you don't see the run as administrator option or if you're on Windows XP or earlier, make sure you're an administrator. You should be unless you're on a public or shared computer. Change yourself to an administrative user and try again. If all this fails, try re-installing Guild Wars and allow it to download the archive. –Jette 19:55, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Does the Trilogy overwrite Prophecies?

I already have Guild Wars Prophecies and Eye of the North, and I want to buy Factions and Nightfall to make my set complete. Can I buy Guild Wars Trilogy and use the access keys without it deleting what I already have on my account now? Adding new keys to your account never removes/deletes anything, it just adds to it. Adding a trilogy key to a Prophecies account would give you access to Factions, Nightfall and whatever else it comes with, but the "duplicate" Prophecies access would give you nothing, as you already have that. --zeeZ (talk) 16:19, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
