Lift Operator Shulz is the operator of the Kurzick lift, that takes people from the Arborstone (explorable area) to the Arborstone (outpost). If the player character arrives early, he will provide information on what must be done first.

"It is my duty to guard the entrance to Arborstone and House zu Heltzer. If you have approval from the Kurzick's Council of Nobles, I can arrange transport for you. Unfortunately, one of the key members on the council has been held up on a trip to Kaineng City. Apparently, there was some trouble at Tahnnakai Temple. Perhaps <Character Name> should look into that first."

Between Tahnnakai Temple and A Meeting With the Emperor

"Shiro the Destroyer is back? And he actually attacked the palace? <Character Name> should head back to Sunjiang District immediately. I'm sure the guards there can use all the help they can get. Was there something else you wanted to talk about?"

During A Meeting With the Emperor

"Some of our people traveled to Kaineng City on a diplomatic mission. They should have returned by now, but we have just learned that the emperor has been unable to see them because of some trouble at Tahnnakai Temple. <Character Name> should return to the temple and speak with the emperor. Was there something else you wanted to talk about?"

Between A Meeting With the Emperor and The Count's Daughter
