Naruto

I suggest we remove the note at the bottom where it says Acolyte Sousuke may be based on Uzumaki Naruto. If they were to base it on that character, they would have made him an Assassin instead of an Elementalist. The only reason the person put that note on the bottom was because he "had a similar name to another character in the TV show, Uchiha Sasuke". Sasuke and Sousuke are completely different names, it's like a Japanese person saying an anime character named Ryan is based off another character from a different show named Brian. Just stupid. In addition, they said he "looked like him". His face bears no resemblance other than the silver headband, which is very commonplace.

I am not in complete agreement. Although you say that it should be an assassin, the family line that the anime Souske came from specializes in fire nunjutsu; which is perfectly in line with a fire elementalist. Also, although the description of Sousuke in guild wars doesn't at all match the character on naruto, it does PERFECTLY match the description of Naruto himself! Not to mention the fact that there have been more obscure pop culture references than this in guild wars that have been confirmed by the team. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.107.77.58 (talk).

I'm going to disagree on the above comments and agree with Demonic Crusader. I am familiar with the series, and disagree. Until someone clarifies or debases such suspicions perhaps such weak ties are best left omitted.(75.2.138.62 01:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC))

Just having a bandanna in the forehead and a remotely similar name is not enough. The only 'famous' anime character called Sousuke I know is from Full Metal Panic, and his personality is quite different. Sousuke isn't much like Naruto or Sasuke either. Sousuke is arrogant, but smart, and loves jokes, fun, irony and rubbing salt on the wound. If Sousuke is like Someone, that is a Monty Python fan. Unlike we have word from Anet stating that the Trivia is true, the statement should be removed. I've watched a few episodes of Naruto, and I can't see how Sousuke and Naruto are similar. The only connection I can make between them is that they're both Asian. Aldarik 23:02, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Well one of the Anet workers might be a Naruto fan, because you can make an assasin, which totally looks like the Naruto character. :)

Weapons

I was doing the quest Bad Tide Rising, and noticed that Sousuke was wielding a Tidal staff. Considering that he's set up as an earth elementalist when you get him, and comes with a wand and off-hand, I found this kind of wierd. Yukiko 08:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC) They are pretty similar though...

Sousuke is statted as a fire elementalist when you recieve him, although he does have ward against melee, which may have been the source of your confusion.(75.2.138.62 01:37, 11 February 2009 (UTC))

Bad Tide Rising...Tidal staff. Also, all maxed staves give 10 energy and 20 HSR, and I guess all NPCs have "clean" weapons, i.e. unmodded weapons, so any staff doesn't really matter.Pika Fan 01:47, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I think it's actually random what skin they have, as long as it's, say, an elementalist weapon. I've noticed several "important" NPCs that never fight wield mesmer weapons of different skins and attributes, like Elder Suhl and some of the vabbian princes. Paddymew 17:48, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Illusion of Enchantment?

My Sousuke doesn't have the blurry white circle around him while enchanted. I had him recast his enchantments, which still wouldn't appear as a visual effect. There were no problems on Vekk and Zhed using the same enchantments. Paddymew 18:33, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Sousuke not staying back

It seems that whenever I have Sousuke with me, he stands right next to the enemy I am attacking, rather than staying back with the ranged characters. He does this regardless of whether he is set to Fight or Guard, and all of his skills are ranged attacks. His weapons are also ranged weapons, so there is no reason he should be that close. A guild mate of mine also has noticed this problem with his Sousuke hero. Anyone else notice this? FloppyJoe 17:34, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Sousuke sometimes gets in closer to use Lava Front or Phoenix or close-range spells like that, but after casting he just goes back to range with my other casters. Vekk's set to air, so that's never a problem. Aldarik 15:23, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

I was running around with Sousuke again today, and he was right next to me using Flare. haha. I can put the same build on another Ele hero, and they stay back, so I guess I may have to switch over to Vekk being fire. All three of my elementalist heros do this for me. I've tried a variety of builds to try and get them to stay back but, to no avail. The trouble is, although they can deal major damage, they put extra pressure on my monks and on long runs aquire too much death penalty.--EvilDarkVoid 12:29, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

This happened to me some times before the hero update, randomly with different heroes. As a melee, they decide that they must smell my armits or something, and walk right next to me, dismissing the battle. It didn't happen again ever since. MithTalk 17:00, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Seriously... doesn't the fact that a simple note like is causing an eternal debate worth noting as trivia? It's been going on and on every since he was introduced. Every once in a while, someone like you will ask to remove, and then someone will come along and says to put it back. I don't see a debate... I see Naruto fans linking a similar (not matching) name and a link to fire... for those references I could link him in trivia to a saucepan (similar name used with fire)... ask anet if there is any link and if there is then keep it, otherwise its vague at best... You don't see a debate here. Doesn't mean there isn't. The "trivia" is not just about "who or what this NPC/place/thing was named after". Trivia is about possibly interesting stuff. Feel free to ask Anet. I think it's been asked before and no definite answer was given. Even if Anet said there's no intended link, I'd still argue to keep that note there, albeit modified. Sasuke (サスケ) and Sousuke (宗介) are COMPLETELY different names, and if you google them, you'll get COMPLETELY different and unrelated results, because there's no relation whatsoever. From where does he hail?

I know this is a very irrelevant bit of information I'm looking for, but I do like to know more of the background about characters in the world, and since Sousuke is a hero and thus a bit more relevant I'm surprised that it isn't blatantly clear where he's from. We know he is a member of the Zaishen Order and that he *appears* to be Canthan, but is it ever expressly stated or clarified that he is from Cantha? Upon further examination he does have several quotes that would imply that he's Canthan ("For Istan and Cantha!" plus his reaction to Shiro's presence in the Realm of Torment), so is this enough to determine 100% that he's from Cantha? Do we know from where in Cantha? It's interesting that Jin has a much less vague origin that seems to imply that she's from an area along the coast (and thus probably outside of the city) yet Sousuke is much more vaguely defined. 24.13.211.110 04:40, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
