Talk:Ascension
Ascension double meaning, things remaining to test![edit]
It seems people use the word 'ascension' interchangably for two very different things: 1. the actual Ascension, which allows you to 'see' spirits. 2. the implied abilities offered by ascending, like unlocking 2nd profession changes (is there any other, like wearing prestige armor?)
so questions remain, like:
- can a Weh No Su character see things like Vision Of Glint? Supposedly they may, as they can see spirits...
- can an Elonian who has completed Hunted! do the above? Realistically, they should not... or maybe they do, as they talk to Sunspear phantoms.
- any other?

- Acension in Prophecies is required to:
- Progress normally through the storyline to Dragon's Lair
- To qualify for the quests to change secondary profession
- by extension it's needed to gain the second +15 attribute quest (for Prophecies characters only) since you have to have done at least one of the secondary profession quests to unlock the quest.
- To access FOW and UW at the Temple of Ages
- Ascension is not required to see the Vision of Glint, that simply requires kneeling at the shrine in Droknar's Forge. To get the quests from her, you simply have to have completed the Hell's Precipice mission, which can be done by a character that has not ascended.
- Non Prophecies characters gain the same benefits (with the exception of access to Dragon's Lair) by:
- Completing the quest Hunted! in Elona.
- Completing the the Nahpui Quarter mission in Cantha.
- The only thing that non Prophecies characters miss by completing Hunted! or Nahpui Quarter before beating the Doppleganger is the
50k xp ascension bonusappears to have been disproved in the testing comments below. -- Wyn 07:57, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
- Added: "Tyrian and Canthan characters can still acquire the 50k exp ascension bonus from Augury Rock after completing Hunted!." Tested and confirmed AltCtrlTheLEET 12:43, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- What about completing Nahpui Quarter, can you still get the 50k exp after that? And does this also apply to Tyrian chars?
Ascending characters from various campaigns[edit]
I've tested with three characters:
- Dervish. Tried to chage secondary at Balthazar's temple without making any 'travel' quests. Only possible after making 'Hunted!'.
- Paragon. Wanted to try with Cantha, but forgot about it and made hunted before making Nahpui. I'll thank if anyone test this.
- Mesmer. Went to Tyria even before making Consulte Docks. Made Tyrian ascension. Did not got the 50,000 Experience, just 2000. Become able to change secondaries both by quests and Balthazar's temple.
Probably Tyrian Ascension is usable by anyone. I think we should test a Canthan trying to ascend there too. And tray all the ascensions with all the characters. Maybe there are some that can be cross-made. MithranArkanere 00:05, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have tried to get ascended with a Ritualist with out going to Nahpui Quarter. Compleeted Hunted! and the Ritualist is still not ascended.
- Ok. So far:
- Tyrian, Canthan and Elonian can ascend in Tyria. Elonian tested with a mesmer. Canthan tested with a monk. All can ascend in Tyria. (Probably due to the Secondary Profession quests, if you can make them, you can change professions, completely normal)
- Canthan can ascend in Cantha. I don't have data about ascending for other professions.
- ONLY Elonian ascend in Elona.
- Just an Elonian in Cantha to go, will the Tyrian ascension work for all? MithranArkanere 00:41, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. So far:
Tyrians can Ascend in Cantha. Tested by an Elementalist of User:TheStuff07
- Ok, now only an Elonian Character in Cantha is left. MithTalk 20:04, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've had to quickly ascend an elonian character that was ferried to cantha at level 3. It works in Nahpui Quarter for elonian characters before completing Hunted!. I'll add this to the article. --Boogy (Talk/Contributions) 01:43, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Does that mean you do not have to complete the secondary profession quests, being able to buy them instead?149.254.200.222 00:41, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. Biscuits 00:57, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
ok as far as i know this is a first, I was able to make a Dervish and ascend in Factions at lvl 2! on last mission i was lvl 1. lowest lvl ascension im aware of.
- just a small question how in hell's name were you able to do that! missions give XP too 0.o!, and sign your comments plz :3 --The Holy Dragons 22:08, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed... When you start in Nightfall, you must be given 2k xp from the tutorial/skipping quests - automatically giving you level 2. Then there's the first mission, which assuming you go with lowest xp reward (no bonuses), you get 250 xp - this assumes that you are out of aggro range of all kills and you don't have heroes or henchmen doing the killing (as then you'd get xp unless out of radar range). Assuming you get ferried to Cantha, you can get there at level 2... I'm unsure if you can get ferried into future missions and skip missions - I know you can ferry people into missions when you're doing the quest to access said mission, but dunno if they can do them. I'm assuming that you can which means that you could of gotten ferried into Nahpui, and if you did the same as for what I said you could for Chabek, you'd end up getting 1k xp... So that means you cannot get lower than 3,250xp... So I suppose it is theoretically possible to ascend via Nahpui and be level 2, but not to be level 1 before Nahpui. -- Konig/talk 22:31, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
ok just making this clear you can ascend in Factions from Nightfall.(also at a very low lvl) I ascended at lvl 2 with a dervish by ascending in Factions.(Shadowstep Runner) if proof is needed watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vALmlVOHw9I&NR=1 at the end of part 2 shows some screenshots of me in FoW lvl 2 as D/A --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 97.120.38.127 (talk).
Ascension and Lore[edit]
I don't know if this is the right spot for this as I can't seem to find the info I'm looking for. Other online sources as well as several ingame hints touch on the groups that came to the Crystal Desert for Ascension. While this article touches upon some of them, it doesn't have the detail that's apparently available. Turai Ossa in Amnoon Oasis mentions he's seen two other groups come to the desert for Ascension but, doesn't say who they were. There's indication that one of the groups were referred to as The Seekers (Seekers Passage being named after them) but, there doesnt seem to be any information about that group such as who they were and where they came from. Additionally, when this article mentions one of the groups as being Tyrians, is that a reference to the players character(s) or a previous group? Tahl 18:58, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the Ascalon Chosen ones (Devona and company) get Elite skills after ascending. Maybe he was talking about them. MithTalk 20:21, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- Dead discussion, but to clarify: There are 5, possibly more, groups known to have traversed the Crystal Desert - the Primeval Kings (with the tomb being part of it), Margonites (during the time of the exodus), the seekers (time unknown), Elonians (Turai's group, ~200 years prior to Prophecies), Ascalonians (you see Ascalonian corpses in Dragon's Lair, and you have some Ascalonian ghosts in the Desolation - interestingly, you also have Ascalonian structures in the Crystal Desert), and then the PC+henchmen - the possibility groups being the "Sorcerer Lord Kree" and "powerful mage Sybitha," they may have been on their own, with an unnamed group(s), or with a previously mentioned group. Of these, there were supposedly 5 groups attempting Ascension - Margonites, Turai's group, 2 others, and the PC+henchmen. Only the last succeeded. -- Konig/talk 02:39, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
HA and Ascension[edit]
The ascension missions in the crystal desert bear a striking resemblance to three types of fight in HA: priest annihilation (Thirsty River), king of the hill (Dunes of Despair), and relic run (Elona Reach). Given that HA was originally accessible in the crystal desert immediately following ascension, and that both heavily involve the ghostly hero, this doesn't strike me as a coincidence. I suspect that the ascension missions were designed as "training" for HA -- a laughable idea today, but perhaps not so ridiculous back when the game was still in development? Worth adding as a trivia note? --Wormwood 02:03, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
- When Prophecies first came out, PvP was intended to be "end-game" content. So yes, the Ascension missions - along with the gradual progression of the now-closed outposts throughout Prophecies - were the original Training Arenas. It is also why pre ends with a PvP match. -- Konig/talk 02:33, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, worth adding as trivia, but probably not on this page. As Konig said, those missions were preps for tombs (and the next one, dragon's lair, forces you to deal with e-denial, health degen, and constant knockdowns - also probably intended as a pvp prep). It was definitely intentional, but I'm not sure how related it is to "ascension." -Auron 02:46, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
- This was suspected as far back as 2005, it's mentioned in that comically out of date Prima guide. Reading it makes me nostalgic for balance, and reminds me how terrible strategy guide writers are at video games when I see suggested Tombs builds involving a team with six copies of Signet of Judgment. In all fairness, some of their profession advice was passable, their skill index was comprehensive and accurate (well, right until the first balance update, ha-ha) and signets were nominally easier to abuse at the time.
- So much nostalgia! :3 I think I'll go write a letter, a real one, with a laser printer and everything. They're kind of scary when you get them. –Jette 03:47, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Prophecies ascension in Notes[edit]
I changed "A Prophecies character skipping Ascension will not have access to The Hero's Challenge and the attribute points available after that," as its wording was misleading. The words "after that" implied permanence, when in reality one can go back at any time, complete Augury Rock, complete The Hero's Challenge, and get their attribute points.
