Talk:Barrage/pet team
The main article is still using the "Old" methode of the Barrage pet team which included spirits and orders necromancers. This is still an effective methode though much slower than the current prefered methode of using the "Conjure ;element;" line of enchantment spells. These quickly and easily add 22 damage to each arrow from each ranger on the teams barrage attacks. It also allows you to field one more ranger and an additoinal pet instead of an Orders necromancer resulting in a much increased overall damage output and defense for the team.
Futhermore the team does not have to rely on easily killed spirits and fragile necromancers for their damage bonuses. If a spirit is killed the entire team loses the damage bonus causing a great deal of damage loss. Should the orders necromancer die again the entire team is at a loss. Should one ranger be stripped of their enchantment, the damage loss is minimal, and more easily reapplied.
some math:
-Traditioanl team: favorable winds +6, Winnowing +4 (applies only to physical damage), "orders" +13-16 damage.
total = +23-26 damage
-Elemental team: favorable winds +6, conjure element +22 (elemental),
total = +28 damage. Not to mention the extra ranger in place of the neco who can dish out hundreds of damage per turn.
The prefered bow for this methode is an elemental bow string with a +15% damage modification and a grip of enchanting (20% longer) customized.
- I don't really agree. The article states that "These hits are boosted by spirits like Winnowing and the necromancer's Order of the Vampire, or Enchantment Spells like Conjure Flame" - in other words, it mentions both strategies. Saying what is "prefered" is a matter of opinion that I don't think belongs in those guides. We should aim at giving as much information as possible, with as few opinions as possible, otherwise this would end just like a build discussion (and the constant "I know how it works better than you!" bickering). - Duh at me, though. After noticing which changes the author of the above has done to the article, I agree with his changes. Took me some time to identify them. Erasculio 23:02, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
- + damage from orders is 17 (16 blood), and "order of the vampires" life steal is armor ignoring, the bonus from a conjure is also 17 (at 12 in attribute), uses up the rangers attribute points (taking away from marks (less bow damage), expertise (energy management gets hard)), it also makes it imposable to bring other useful secondary skills such as "go for the eyes" or "splinter weapon". Allowed?[edit]
We allowed to have this on GWW since there is no build policy yet?--Eloc 22:20, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
- This is more of a guide than a build, I'd say it might as well stay for the time being. HeWhoIsPale 22:32, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
- I agree. It's still not complete, but since it's a guide instead of a build, I don't see a problem with it being here. Erasculio 22:38, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
- The same writer who added the "or conjure flame" is the same person who wrote the disscussion above, and this guide was intented to show why the elemental barrge team information was added to the orginal article; which containted only the Traditional B/p team information. The disscussion on this page is also updating the reader on current barrge/pet team dynamics that have been brought about by overall changes made to the game in the past few months. If any wording needs to be changed to reflect more fact than opinon please do so. 17:05, 17 April 2007 (EDT)
Merger with Barrage ranger[edit]
I think this page should concentrate on B/p ranger groups which are quite a bit different from single Barrage rangers. It could still be merged but might result in one large and messy article. Anyway, there is quite a bit of info in here that is not in barrage ranger which was lost in the redirect. --Xeeron 19:08, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- I tried to read it through first, but I missed bits obviously :) I agree that this should rather focus on groups, since it would be quite redundant with barrage ranger otherwise. - anja 19:12, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed, focus on groups and move to something like B/p ranger team. - HeWhoIsPale 20:35, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, do move to Barrage Ranger. I've been playing Guild Wars for 27 months now and have never ever heard of B/P ranger. — ク Eloc 貢 02:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- There used to be plenty of those requests at Tomb of the Primeval Kings. Granted I have not been there after the GWEN release, but the request for B/P rangers was a staple there. --Xeeron 13:11, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- Play GW much, eloc? I've heard of them o_O I've seen barragers with pets but that may not necessarily make them a B/P. Vanguard13:13, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- The Barrage/Pet Ranger was a staple in Tombs of the Primeval Kings prior to the change to the exploitability of pet bodies. The Barrage/Pet ranger is still however a very easy to use ranger build. -- Wynthyst 13:23, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

- Agreed, B/P Ranger and Barrage Ranger are two different things, the B/P Ranger build was designed to give pet corpses to the necros in the party, per here And like Wynthyst stated, was used mainly in ToPK. But, now that pets don't leave corpses, I don't see how B/P Rangers are still needed. Unless you use the pets just to hold aggro. Rappy 01:44, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Merge revisited[edit]
Barrage/"Pet" rangers are played no different than standard barrage rangers (they press C + barrage). Charm animal adds nothing to the build concept, it's just another skill on the bar. You don't pick targets differently, you don't get healed differently, you don't deal damage differently. You play it exactly the same way. Guild Wars isn't WoW; the addition of a pet doesn't change the dimension of the class.
If we want the article to be about just the ranger, it's redundant with the barrage ranger article. It isn't different enough to warrant its own page. The only thing that separates B/P rangers from B rangers is the accompanying team. That's what this article needs to be about. -Auron 13:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Move this to Barrage/pet team (with a redirect from B/p team and possibly even this page) and describe the entire team rather than just the barrager. — Galil 13:26, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Update[edit]
Because of the buff to Comfort Animal, which allows you to bring your pet without Charm Animal, I think this page needs to be updated.Leatherneck 04:22, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
