Talk:Doppelganger
Isn't the Doppelganger a Demon? He looks like one tough. 68.83 03:12, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
- The Doppelganger no longer uses a bow at long range. He uses a purple...baton thing. I think I heard somewhere it's a Realm of Torment weapon, though I don't know as my dervish only got to the RoT recently.
- I always saw the Doppelganger is "your evil self". Kinda spiritual. I also noticed he used some sort of spear. -- Karuro 13:00, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

- dropped a white Long Sword for me in normal mode. Firadesunna

Not using PvE skills?[edit]
I have seen him use Vampirism ^Tycko 13:14, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
I'll bet that just means he has 0 in the title track of the PvE skill. 71.204.179.26 03:36, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
i verified not all but a lot of pve only skills, so far the doppelganger can only use vampirism, level 8 ( rank 8 sunspear is equivalent of 12 in an other atribute following signet of illusions)
but the pve only skills are anyway in his barr, so pve spells can be steal with Arcane Larceny. lussh 09:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
On the Doppelganger's page it states "It cannot use any PvE-only skills (except Vampirism and Winds, which will be level 9)", however on Augury Rock's page we can read "The Doppelganger cannot use any PvE-only skills (except Vampirism at level 8)"... So, level 8 or 9 ? (and if it can use Winds maybe that should be added on Augury Rock's page) 213.166.218.168 22:03, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Split?[edit]
Do you think we should split this page into doppleganger (male) doppleganger (female)? --Shadowphoenix 15:51, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- No, they're one entity, just different sexes. That'll be like saying split Ranger or Monk because there are female rangers and monks. There's no difference between the male and female versions apart from the fact the male appears for males and the female appears for females. -- Brains12 \ Talk 15:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

- Yup. One easy way to take him down in seconds. Backsword 03:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Used weapons[edit]
Does the doppelganger always just have the spear and the axe, or does its weapons change according to yours? Silavor 03:43, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- He will use Chaos axe for ALL melee combat no matter what the skill requires. and Vise Versa for Ranged Attacks he uses Spear no matter what. The Only Warrior 11:40, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Glitch?[edit]
I just fought my doppelganger in normal mode and won in LITERALLY 5 seconds.
Why are we given 10 minutes to kill it is some can kill it so easily?
- The timeframe is a fun benchmark. One of the charactersI brought through in 2005 went in and fought him to a standstill until the timer ran out (we would actually try to do that). Back before Factions, EOTN and NF, it was something that was fun that could always be done. As for a game mechanics perspective, I would imagine the time limit was put in place to stop fights from lasting forever and because so many ppl had such a tought time beating him back then. 24.188.207.20 04:55, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Bonus without mission completion[edit]
If you and your Doppelgänger are near death and you use a projectile spell/attack your foe may kill you with a non-projectile spell and you will be awarded for the bonus only (of course, you have to be in this situation before the timer runs out). Noctarch 00:31, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Very easy way to defeat the doppleganger[edit]
I just beat the DG in a very short space of time by:
equiping: Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support and Ursan Blessing
and a load of useless skills (resurection type stuff but you could just leave them blank)
hit him with the assasin support and then went ursan. In both normal and HM it was painfully easy to beat him.

It says in the text: "It can't use any PvE-only skills (except Vampirism and Winds, level 8), however, they will be on his Skill Bar."
What does the level 8 thing mean?Crimmastermind 02:58, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- That the spirit of vampirism and the spirit of high wind will be level 8. (although it was before the pve titles update so it's probably level 9 now) just like if the doppelganger had a rank 8 in every title tracks. --Anksa 07:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Easiest Boss in the game[edit]
Simply play as a Warrior (Primary Warrior of course) and you can beat it in under 10 seconds. I was very disappointed on how easy this was, as I was expecting a climactic fight. That's all there is to it. Simply play as a Warrior and you will kill it in under 10 seconds. Easy. With ANY skill set.
- Yes, because the entire community plays as warriors. I have never gotten a war up to this point and thus I cannot comment about the validity of your comments, but I can tell you that it is very annoying as a monk (their auto-attack dps is better than you, they have AI interrupt skills so you can't heal yourself while they can if you bring healing spells and an interrupt, Smiting is pretty much useless). All these points add up to a very annoying fight, where all your skills are your secondary's (and you can't change your secondary until you have ascended). All this means that if you made a bad secondary choice at the beginning as a monk, its really hard to ascend without any other campaign.Crimmastermind 07:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, that sounds pretty difficult. All I can say is that it is much easier as a Warrior (mainly due to the fact that Interrupts and the wrong skill set does not = a game ender for a Warrior.) Never made it to the fight as a Monk. --68.207.156.253 18:11, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Kaysan Smithee
um doesnt the healing breeze thing still work? something about the doppleganger not using healing breeze in normal mode comes to mind--Justice 09:35, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- no idea, I haven't played monk in a while :P. I still remember the old days where the doppelganger was bugged and used all maintain enchantments on recharge so bringing 7 of them +1 healing spell meant easy win.Crimmastermind 19:19, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) Facing this guy is very anticlimactic. I expected something difficult but found it to be really, really, almost embarassingly easy to beat, even without PvE only skills. Perhaps next time they have something that 'mirrors' you they can have a more sophisticated system in place so it's far more of a challenge. 000.00.00.00 20:53, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

- This is a special NPC, and as such there is no real way to test what profession it actually is. Tomes have never been the most reliable way of determining some thing's profession. Snow Wurms drop Warrior tomes, yet are obviously Rangers. Unless there's a more concrete way of proving the exact profession of this NPC, it should remain special. --Curse You(talk|contribs) 00:42, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- Um, only the snow wurms within the quest use cripshot (and several wurms are known to use secondary professions) so this "doubt" has about no value. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 00:46, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- Tome drop shows that as far as the system is concerned it is a monk... but as the mish discription (and anyone who ever faces it) knows it will copy the player with increased attributes... I say to match the formatting of every other boss show it as a monk (because it drops the tomes) but put a comment in notes as to why it is listed as a monk... wiki wants accurate information not general information... the general info is that its profession is "nothing and everything" the more specific is that it is "a monk that copys the player"... MrPaladin talk 13:21, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- The thing is though, this NPC is a unique case. No other NPC does what this one does. With "bosses" like Murakai and Shiro Tagachi, their profession doesn't matter since they just use Monster skills, making their profession of no consequence. However, since this NPC uses regular, profession based skills, profession becomes relevant.
- In addition, while being specific is important, keeping things easy to understand is also important. Many people rarely read an entire article, reading the most basic things and ignoring much of the notes section. If the profession says Monk, many will look at this and get confused, seeing how the Augury Rock article is telling them it matches their profession. Simply noting the way the system perceives this NPC as a point of Trivia thus prevents confusion while still presenting the information to those who want it. --Curse You(talk|contribs) 23:54, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

As monk secondary, I used Life Attunement which he casts on himself, lowering his damage output, and Essence Bond and Balthazar's Spirit for energy (having both proved vital). I took a +20% enchant weapon for Protective Spirit and Healing Breeze and used, as a mesmer should, Empathy to dole out damage.
