Comments[edit]

First post! Big update today it seems, I'm still loading Great Temple and started it right when the message told me too.--§ Eloc § 22:27, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I must say, wow, huge update!!!! devi59 22:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
75% loaded here.--§ Eloc § 22:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Tyria map looks weird now it doesn't cover the whole screen ~ KurdKurdsig.png 22:45, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Dont u just hate updates that then involve the re-loading of all your areas! From what i've read seems good. Intrigued as to see new map. I'm guessing it wont show any dungeon areas or anything right? just resized to allow for it?! --ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 22:47, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Nope, just shows whats above ground ~ KurdKurdsig.png 22:48, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I'm downloaded, why is there MAJOR graphical glitches now, all my "pants" seem to reach or the sky or ground. It's EVERYONE'S too, not just mine. devi59 22:49, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Thought as much. I guess i'll just have to over-imagine it for now then! xD --ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 22:51, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
For some reason i can see european,international AND american districts ~ KurdKurdsig.png 22:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Reset Indent...Wow that could cause quite a market crash...as having an account in both i know at times there can be some massive differences in what players feel are the right prices for things!...I'm yet to get in, but i'm forseeing a later update already! xP --ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 22:56, 17 July 2007 (UTC) Edit: just found out u cant actually enter them! Phew! --ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 22:56, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

This update sucks! You can't spam messages as often now so recruitment is 2x as hard.--§ Eloc § 23:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Other methods as well...use forums. lol ~ ReaperAssassin-icon-small.png 23:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

GAY!!!! THIS SUCKS! Apparently you can't say something in All Chat then switch to Alliance without it saying your spamming.--§ Eloc § 23:17, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Eloc, please don't use language like that here, ok? Thanks for your consideration. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:22, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
At least we know the spam filter works good ;) ~ KurdKurdsig.png 23:20, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
BS! It works horrible!--§ Eloc § 23:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
It works fine, its meant to keep spammer's like you out ~ KurdKurdsig.png 23:27, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
No, I'm talking in All Chat, Guild Chat and Alliance Chat all kinda at the same time by switching through quickly but when I switch it says I'm spamming even though I'm saying something else in a different channel.--§ Eloc § 23:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

umm i don't get it why do the french and german get to have their own district however the english just get the common one? why not keep english and add common district... also the lfp thing compeltley sucks also the fact you can't modify the party box thing is really annoying

The changes that you saw to the districts were odd, we know. I believe we got them all sorted in a newer build. If not, we'll tidy them soon. --Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:22, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

American District[edit]

so American districts are showing up on the list for the European server, but whenever you try and connect you get an Err 007. weird. --Lemming64 22:53, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

It was not intended that this be on Live, it was an experiment on one of the test servers. We removed it in a subsequent build, as I'm sure you noted. And I've relayed certain concerns about the word "Common." :) --Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:22, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

25000+ files[edit]

Wow... that's a lot of GW:EN content already... -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 23:00, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I think I'll have to run the GW.dat unpacker and see if there are any cool pictures. The last time I did I found copies of some of the loading screen pictures from GW:EN, so maybe this time there will be more! --trekie9001 00:12, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I've been browsing through gw.dat for the past couple of hours. There's a LOT of GW:EN music in there, as well as the GW:EN skill icons -- although in most cases they still need to add the actual icons and instead made placeholders with the skill's name typed onto them.  User Riven sigicon.png   05:14, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
That's sweet! I'm working on some other software right now in my usual vampire (read as staying up way late) mode but after I'm done I'm definitely going to be looking inside the archive. Have you noticed, or anybody else for that matter, if the music is different? What I mean is that during E3 they said that the music had been changed so that it will detect if you're in battle and how the battle is going to change the music. I wonder how this will be reflected in the raw music files? Hopefully the overall quality is good and the music is still something that I can throw into Winamp and play for ambiance. EXCITEMENT!!! --trekie9001 05:25, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Battle music just resides in separate files. What I've heard so far (and what I presume to be GW:EN music), is simply outstanding, imo. I was hoping it would be along the lines of the Sorrow's Furnace bonus pak, and it is, but even better :D  User Riven sigicon.png   07:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh yes. I have to listen to it now that you told me it is going to be good. Unfortunately now that I'm done working I should go to sleep...or will I. Does anyone have any idea when Jeremy Soule will release the GW:EN music on DirectSong? I emailed him but he hasn't replied :( --trekie9001 08:43, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
What are you using to view the dat file? --SK 09:52, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
http://forum.xentax.com/download.php?id=1150   User Riven sigicon.png   15:49, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I've used this before in my hunt for the Extinguish sound file but with little success. If anyone manages to find it please do send it to me :( --SK 16:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
ArenaNet has clearly stated that your not allowed to extract/view files in the .dat file. I believe it goes againt your User Agreement and can get you banned.--§ Eloc § 18:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually your wrong... Please do not attempt to extract anything from your GW.dat with the intent to use it in a mod for another game or project. See this very article for this quote. Where was this 'clearly stated' then? --SK 21:16, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Well if you're trying to extrace Extinguish then you must be using it as another project, correct?--§ Eloc § 22:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
How did you reach that assumption? If you really must know I like the sound file. Like other sounds I have used them on my mobile phone as message alerts etc. I still can't find anywhere where ANet 'clearly state' what I am trying to do is not allowed. Can you give me any pointers? --SK 22:23, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

"Thanks. I've used this before in my hunt for the Extinguish sound file but with little success. If anyone manages to find it please do send it to me :("--§ Eloc § 22:54, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Why are you quoting me? --SK 23:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
"How did you reach that assumption?"--§ Eloc § 23:30, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Your trying to say that because of that one line, you thought I was extracting files for use in a mod, game or other project? Good work detective. With skills like that you should join the police force! Rather than trying to wriggle out of your false statement, regarding extracting files from the .dat file (not to mention your false assumption as well), why not just agree you was wrong and say sorry? That hole is starting to get too big. --SK 06:04, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Then why would you have someone send the Extinguish if they found it?--§ Eloc § 06:19, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Have you actually read anything I have been saying? --SK 06:22, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Eloc is obviously just trolling here. Anyway, if using Texmod to change the contents of gw.dat is allowed by Anet, then surely there is nothing wrong with browsing through gw.dat or using files from it for strictly personal use. Since Eloc has no way of knowing what goes on inside SK's mind unless he posesses certain supernatural powers, we can only take SK's word for it and trust him that he will not use any extracted files for use in another project or something similar. Okay, Eloc?   User Riven sigicon.png [riVen]  17:35, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the support. I'm actually a fan of game music etc. I have lots of music varying from Guild Wars to Sonic the Hedgehog :s. Kinda sad I guess. Anyway if anyone does manage to find extinguish in this huge list of files please save it for me :) --SK 17:47, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps we should start a wiki project to classify all of the files? Just a thought. --trekie9001tlk • 02:37, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

official typo[edit]

the update mention's "Lightbringer's Signet" when it is really Lightbringer Signet. are we allowed to correct official anet typos or just say sic? --VVong|BA 23:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

There is no rule saying we can't, however if you wish to preserve the original text than by all means use the {{sic}} code. --Lemming64 23:18, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Usually the official update page is followed, including typo's. Just use the GWW Notes section to add those kind of things. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 23:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
They also mis-spelt the City of Torc'qua also in the original notes. --Lemming64 23:21, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Graphics glitch?[edit]

Anybody else notice a black spot a little south of D'Alessio Seaboard in the world map? Tedium 23:20, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I see it, there's a vertical black bar on the east side of Seaboard. Am I alone in saying that the "new" map for Tyria looks awful? The colors of some areas have changed significantly, there are graphical issues (a vertical "bar" in D'Alessio Seaboard), not to mention the two black vertical bars on the zoomed out map. A better solution (imo) would have been to keep the the map the way it was before and add an " up arrow" at the top-center (taking you to the EotN map). --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.94.150.55 .
I notice that the unfogged areas on my map didn't get translated 1-to-1 on the updated map, with patches, mostly in corners, being fogged back over. No change to my cartographer title, thank goodness.
Also the land leading up to the front gate of the fortress in Ring of Fire is missing on the map --Valshia 00:05, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Title Screen[edit]

The title screen didn't "change" just the wraparound texture got moved. If you turn around and look in the cave you will see where it gets really misplaced. It does not look like A.Net meant to intentionally make the sky darker, it just looks like the textures moved from where they should be. --Ravious 00:39, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Size?[edit]

Does anyone the actual size of the update? -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 05:50, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Couple megabytes I believe, maybe 10?--§ Eloc § 06:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
um that's slightly off Eloc, End result was 530mb. -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 06:48, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I should mention that that number was for me, I don't know about other people doing it. (Also I note I used -image) -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 06:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I was way off lol, if you knew Scourge, why you ask?--§ Eloc § 06:58, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Well I was downloading it at the time, I was just curious of the final size. -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 07:06, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Ft. Aspenwood Changes[edit]

Okay those changes are in the right and wrong directions. (1) The Luxon Warriors now prefer to run most of the time instead of attack. I still see them getting stuck occasionally as well. It is slightly better in that the usual tricks to getting them stuck don't seem to work as often. It is so frustrating when you desparately need another shipment of turtle and you can't get it because one Luxon is running in a place where enemies don't exist. Suggestion: Give the turtle's 2 more levels and when a turtle dies the Luxon Warriors do as well. (2) We have freaking kamikaze turtle's now. They move forward at such a pace now, completely ignoring most enemies until they practically step on a gate defender, then they stop and fire. I usually play a Rt that stays with the turtle, and we are seriously going behind enemy lines just so I can heal the stupid animal. This also creates more dissonance with their Luxon guards that don't understand what to do anyway, and then see 4-5 enemies between them and the turtle. Suggestion: Whatever you did to the turtle. Turn it back. --71.8.209.155 19:40, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect Information[edit]

"This update introduced changes to mouse movement that prevent the character from moving forward when holding both mouse buttons if the mouse cursor is positioned over a focusable UI element (ie: compass, map or text-input field). It is unknown if this change was intended." This information isn't true. I can still move around fine. I dont want to start a revert war so someone else remove the note after realising. --ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 04:24, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

See your talk page, I pulled the note since the problem was fixed by the second patch --Pork soldier 04:26, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Played with this more, the bug still exists but seems to be random. Some times I can move forward while holding both mouse buttons, sometimes I can't. The compass is affected at random, the skillbar always triggers the skill screen instead of moving, text input boxes sometimes steal focus and sometimes move the character forward. Play with it for a while before you call it false. --Pork soldier 05:03, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Be sure to press you're right mouse button before you're left. Obviously left clicking on something is going to select it, so if you want to press both in order to move, press the right button first. --ChronicinabilitY User Chronicinability Spiteful Spirit.jpg 16:06, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
