Fur-lined Mask[edit]
One of you lovely wiki users inquired a little while ago about why the fur-lined ranger mask from one of the armor rendors wasn't actually in the game. John Hargrove looked into it and couldn't find any good reason for why it wasn't in the game so he got right on to that. He wanted me to make sure to thank that user but sadly Emily's archive is so massive that I can't quite find it right now. So I wanted to just say thanks to that user here, you know who you are! - Linsey talk 22:19, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Skill Schism[edit]
Now that skills are getting two copies of themselves with different effects, should we start creating new pages called *skill*(pvp) for the skills that have been affected? Silavor 22:26, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think it was still being discussed (can't remember where, though)?. In any case, i think it may be safer to do exactly what you suggest (is easier to merge than to split).--Fighterdoken 22:28, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok...skill set seperated...yet...no Ursan Nerf? *Goes and cries in corner*-Warior Kronos 22:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Honestly, I don't know what the big fuss about a PvE-Only skill is all about (the Usuran Blessing, Pain Inverter, etc). ANet and NCSoft didn't REQUIRE you to use those skills. Besides, they CAN be beat. Nevertheless, it's great having two separate skill-sets (one for PvE & one for PvP). JupiterStarWarrior 23:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Jupiter are you new to the wiki? If so, please read the 10+ Complaints on Regina's/Gaile's/Ursan blessing itself, and after doing so, if you still want to use the "Don't use it if u dont want to lulz" reason, we will talk. -Warior Kronos 23:12, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Remember that this is the intial roll-out of the new system. And that some of these updates will be changed or reverted. It is still too soon to see anything happend to Ursan blessing. Thhe devs would have to look at what skills need to be adjusted to make whatever they do to Ursan as effective as possible. Effigy 23:09, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Assassins' Remedy[edit]
im not fucking happy assassins remedy is the ONLY anti blind assassins get not to mention one missed attack and were screwed, we dont need the extra 5 e not like we have alot left anyway ffs SCREW U ANET why not focus on what needs nerfing R/D SWAY and dont forget the 100+ other spammed wiki builds that piss everyone off, secondly the shadow form is nice, but im royally pissed about assassins remedy
- oh give me a break.. how do you think the dervish community (or dervish secondary) felt when anet nerf batted Mystic Regen twice.. at least Assassin's Remedy is still good. Mystic Regen isn't worth it anymore because you to invest too many points into Earth Prayer that you could have otherwise put into something more meaningful..
- Because Mystic Regen totally didn't require 8 earth prayers back when it came out? -Auron 01:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

for one primary dervishes' don't need to waste time on mystic regen, what about heal breeze lol with only a few points its a constant 7-8 regen 15 seconds at same e cost, they have nothing to bitch about,
secondly your attacks dont depend on hitting, you can miss and there's no consequence, we have our e pushed to the limit already, with this new nerf i seriously doubt sins will live on, for christs sake anet when will we finally see deadly arts' get its nerf i mean shadow prison is ASKING for it, i don't actually see sin builds on pvx wiki (alltho they do suck crap) without shadow prison, once that skil ends up like shroud of silence maybe they'll move on to non suck elites
or the a/mo deadly arts wiki nubs, they've just been asking for the nerf of a life time, just make entangling asp cause poison, but it requires something to do so or make it 15 e or more it's a free kd plus poison
- Not every sin uses asp or shadow prison. There are ALOT of great builds, that use other skills. And if u can't kill a sin while being in a good team - i pity u. --De1m0s 01:43, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

EW[edit]
- → moved from Talk:Developer Updates
I won't deny the fact that there are good changes with the new PvP/PvE skill distinction, and am glad the issue is being addressed. I personally play both PvP and PvE, though with a stronger inclination to PvE. Yet I feel quite discontent that they did not address some of the larger, more detrimental PvE nerfs with this update. I am willing to accept somethings are indeed overpowered, and agree. EW was in fact one of those that was very useful for farming, and it may be they wish to not make it so you can farm certain areas as easily by bringing it back. But there exist other farming builds that flood the market, and I feel it is unfair to target EW for this reason. It has become a skill with very little use in all but the most specialized of builds, and even then it is not particularly useful or worth bringing anymore. I don't know if this is a skill update to be addressed at a later time, but I wished to make my opinion known on this in a public forum so any developer who might read it can do with it as they will. ~ Rylkan
they should relly do it earlier... but ok Plohek 15:08, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Quicken zephyr (what i presumed u were talking about) isin't even in the article so wtf is it your talking about?
I am bringing it up as an example of a skill I, and a variety of other people, would like to see changed in some manner so it more closely resembles what it used to be. Given this update is about the introduction of PvE and PvP skill distinctions, I mean it seems like a good candidate to fall under this category at a later time. ~ Rylkan
- I think you mean EW and not QZ. I don't remember QZ being touched for a long time. Dragnmn talk cont 16:00, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, my mistake. I feel a bit silly, arguing my case for the wrong skill. :p Should pay closer attention next time. ~Rylkan

- Sorry, Montu. I was thinking of a worst case scenario where PvE no longer posed any sort of challenge, no matter what skills your character had. Basically, one hit, one kill. And for those that decide to violate NPA because of this... Don't bother. This is a hypothetical worst case scenario, this is NOT, I repeat NOT, an actual idea. - There is nothing wrong with splitting PvE and PvP skills. This is a very reasonable approach to balance skills against the very different environments PvP and PvE settings create. There are some skills that you simply can not balance for PvP and still keep viable in PvE. It has nothing to do with making PvE easier, just with keeping skills viable... but that is the biggest and for month and month completely ignored problem in GW PvE. Right now there is only one viable skill in PvE left, and that is Ursan Blessing. So all these rebalances are moot anyway.
- Over the last years ANET earned quite a lot of credit, but in the last months they lost every bit of it. They obviously either don't care or don't have any idea what is going on in PvE in general and high end PvE in special (which is hard if you care, because it is babymaking obvious, just have a look at DoA group search). The remark about PvP Glyph of Concentration balance having no impact on PvE is just another example that shows that they have no idea about common high end pve tactics.
- I for myself have given up with GW and began playing WoW again. Seeing a game consisting of hundreds of skills transforming into one with only one skill that is particularly boring and brainless to use is already hard to take. But when the devs don't even consider this a problem thats just to much. And i am not even talking about the irreversible damage this has done to the game economy. Feels like a lose somehow[edit]
i mean, it sort of sad that there wasn't a way to balance the game somehow so both sides would be happy, i know thats wishful thinking, and this would be better off in the long run. but the fact that we had to resort to this kinda solution is like splitting up two kids because their fighting in the back seat. :\ --Metal Sazz 01:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU[edit]
dear a-net.. first i would like to thank u for making pvp version skills... however... PLZ REVERT PVE SHADOWFORM BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL TIMING, thx to the pve shadowform buff, the economy will b ruined cuz now anyone can solofarm uw and tombs in hardmode and get ectos like nothing... and before anyone responds"lol u noob that wont ruin economy" note that the number of people soloing has increased by like 500% and the price of rare items will crash and dwindle down to nothing.. i saw like 20 sins solo farming uw in hard and at tombs it was even worse... it doesnt even take timing now to infinite shadowform, now its just ridiculous how u can inf shadowform with 10 shadowarts.. soon enough everyone will be wearing fow armor.. i can seriously see the price of ectos going from 5k to 2-3k easily... i am a very experienced soloer and very familiar with solo farming areas like the fow,uw,tombs, sorrows, and elite areas in hardmode, now its just ridiculously easy, while solving alot of problems, new problems have arised. what used to take time and effort to farm, now takes a half-assed attempt and just.. click...click..click.. with no thought. getting fow armor used to take skill and time, now it takes a half assed noob to rip strats and click on skills. srsly... wth?? i have talked to other people and alot of them(the hardcore soloers) have the same viewpoint i do--Arrythmia 01:26, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

- BTW, shadow form isnt the game you know. You're making it sound like its the only skill in the game. 67.165.31.229 01:35, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Only skill that can pwn anyone. Halogod35 01:41, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- well i know its not the only skill in the game, however ur really failing to see my point, now its the only skill in the game that is extremely imbalanced in pve due to 4 reasons...
- 1. you can maintain it easily
- 2. its better than obsidian flesh, vow of silence, spell breaker(and all of the great defensive skills)
- 3. it has a longer duration than the elites listed above
- 4. its hard to strip and immunity to attacks and spells
- Only skill that can pwn anyone. Halogod35 01:41, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

wow and its NOT okay for people to have fow armor for hom? thats just plain silly...cuz thats what it looks like your saying, dude really get over it cuz i think EVRYONE should get fow armor at sum point, but not buying ectos at 5k they really shouldnt be worth that anyways..the point is, let the market crash the game has been out for what 3 years? its '08 baby and gw2 comes out next year so QQ bout ectos in your own talk page.Majikpsilocybin 04:58, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- UW has always been solo farmed in Hard Mode. Just with different builds/classes. This change won't have a big impact (other than ppl saying, hey its new, lets try it out). The only thing that really impacts game economy is UB. Because this not only allows everyone to farm any area in the game with ease, it also allows to do this very fast. Beetlejuice 13:00, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- ok ill rather not waste my time anymore on people.. especially the people who comment without knowing some of the new builds that have come out, doa is ridiculously lawlz now "why would i talk about strats that are currently beyond your level of comprehension"-pure pwnage--Arrythmia 20:08, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

- To the original poster...A. I don't know what the heck a "hardcore soloer" is...I didn't think there were various levels of soloing, and 2. So what. People farm Tombs all the time. And if its not tombs, its (enter other area). Farming doesn't and won't kill the economy. Not everyone has the patience / time to farm so obsessively that they can make ectos drop from 5-3k (maybe those people are hardcore soloers...). And good luck with everyone wearing FoW Armor...-Warior Kronos 22:00, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Speaking of things killing the economy... Maybe i am wrong, but before EotN ectos were usually at 4.5-5k each. Now, months after ursanway, ectos are... you guess, 4.5-5k each... dang, they really ruined the economy. I am sure the change to SF for PvE will ruin the economy as much as ursan has XD.--Fighterdoken 22:11, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- UB did not kill Ecto prizes because they are based on the daily solo farming. Clearing UW only yields you one extra ecto (2 in hard mode). So doing this over just solofarming the area is not very profitable considering how long it takes to clear UW. UB just makes clearing UW for title extremly easy. UB did ruin DoA gem prizes though, and the value of pretty much every pve title too (not that value was so high to begin with...). But that is not what i dislike UB for, actually i don't care about any of those points. I dislike UB because it completely killed gameplay. GW once was a game about building your skill bar and skill interactions. Now it is about bringing UB and spamming 1,2,3.
- Oh, and to the op, thanks for disquailfying yourself, i almost thougth i would have to waste my time commenting on your replies. Beetlejuice 23:26, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- hmm... a/e perma sliver armor, oh, now its easy to farm elemental swords and bosses, oh lets see, ah yes, solo farming the fow in hard.. spider cave is fun, i love getting 5 shards from there,oh whats that? domain of anguish, that should b fun, oh.. look at all those gemstones.. oh the cathedral of flames? theres another fun one..oh wait, how could i forget the uw, its fun 2 man clearing the whole area in hardmode within 18 mins, oh yeah, how could i forget the E/A permasin nuker... thats fun too. you see beetlejuice, if you actually knew of some of the available exploits now, u might understand how ridiculous it has become with shadowform(i don't know how much exp u have due to u having no talk page) so all i have to go off of is your ignorant replies and mockery. my point of view is.. shadowform makes pve ridiculously easy now, and it shouldnt be, some people like to keep it as a challenge, in this game, i dont think its right to just jump on in and get rich faster than someone who is more skilled and solo most of the areas in the game just cuz u have an assassin and they dont, if u cant understand my viewpoint, then go back to WoW. imo if u think ursan is more of a problem than shadowform, then u have a big wake up call(and yes i did go alittle to far saying it would crash the economy and all but still... its ridiculous)--Arrythmia 05:12, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

- I wonder what that completely out of context quote from another post should tell me or anyone else, but have fun messing around, i don't care. The part about no experience because of a missing userpage made me laugh quite a bit though, thanks for that. So in return i will take just a little bit more of my precious time to answer you. I never said it was a very wise or much needed update, all i said is that you completely overdramatize. All the areas you talk about were solo farmed before and in case of DoA for example you overestimate the power of shadowform by quite a bit. Shadowform does not protect you against pbaoe spells and non spell, non attack skills. So the veil hungers tear through you like nothing and the many dervishes in all other parts make life very hard too. On top of that Shadowform has always been maintainable, now you just have another secondary profession choice and a bit less energy pressure, which i agree is a very nice bonus for soloing. But again, all the areas you mentioned were solofarmed already, now there is just another variant to do this. Beetlejuice 11:49, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
lawl it got nerfed, bout time, now at least now it makes things harder. even though they should have just changed it back to the original timing.

New skill icon template[edit]
- I have added a template similar to skill icon, but for pvp skills.
{{pvp skill|Eremite's Attack}}
will turn into Eremite's Attack (PvP).- It will use the same image as its pve counterpart, but will link to the pvp skill. Since the icons for the pvp skills will always be identical to their counterparts, there's no reason to add 2000 new images to wiki.~Shard (talk) 01:52, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
why couldnt we just add the discrption to the alreaady existing pages?Majikpsilocybin 05:01, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Because some skills also have different costs, activation times and recharge times, and it would mess up the DPL quick ref lists. -- Gordon Ecker 06:51, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Glyph of Concentration[edit]
Glyph of Concentration hasn't been updated yet. I'd do it but I'm not sure of the wording without checking in game (which I cannot do right now). Could someone fix it up please? --Aspectacle 02:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Am I the only one?[edit]
I feel sad about the split of PvP/PvE. I guess it's nice for people that only play one or the other but what about people who play both. I bet it was a nightmare for ANET to try to balance skills but, as a PvE only player, I liked having PvP taking lead of what skills did what. It mean you had to be more dynamic with your builds. Now that we have PvE only statistics I guess we won't really ever see PvE skills ever get updates again. A sad day for PvE imo --SK 06:08, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Most PvE'ers don't want any changes to happen at all to their skills(except for a buff obviously) which is why this is done in the first place. (86.87.80.125 07:14, 23 May 2008 (UTC))
hey PVP'ers don't want any change to happen either (except for a nerf obviously) of course this not always the case, but either way, i feel the same way SK--Metal Sazz 19:22, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Hear, hear![edit]
Well done Anet. It is good to see something like this happen. Hopefully this method will allow you greater control over the meta game and allow it to be more enjoyable for both sides of the community - PVP and PVE.
It is also nice to see the skills that were reverted from the April 17th update and this will make things more interesting now, as well as see more 'dead' mesmer skills being revisited.
Good going :) --Shaia 08:05, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Further to this, I hope players realise that some areas are really going to be irritating now, since not only we get these PVE changes, but so does the AI and the foes you will meet in the PVE World. Another thing, ANet please you gotta do something about Ursan, it really is too much cheese for one game to have. Perhaps only having Ursan available in Norn or GW:EN areas would be the solution, or not having GW:EN PVE skills available in Elite Mission areas. --Shaia 15:26, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
YaY,but[edit]
Rlly happy with this update, finnaly anet wont screw over skills for those poor pve players with their gvg updates.
However,as long as ursan exists all these skill balances are useless :/. there are like hundreds of skills and one one will still be used untill they nerf itOni 09:29, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not using Ursan during regular PvE-play --Arduinna 09:53, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Increasing the gap.[edit]
PvE was never unbalanced to begin with, it was quite the easy cake. Now its even easier. The only thing this will do is to split the PvE community from the PvP community and make things unnessesarily complicated. This also supports grinding and farming which is an extremely unhealthy gaming envoriment. Also due the bigger gap between PvE and PvP, less people will make the jump from PvE to PvP, where the game shines. I just don't feel this was the best solution. SniperFox 11:00, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
im with you on all that except for the PvE being easy and pvp is where it shines, but that my opinion and another story. It might not be the best solution, but it will it does take the work load of Anet knowing that they can balance/buff/nerf one end of game play and not have the other end complain about it, and were all guilty with that.--Metal Sazz 13:25, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
a letter from a fellow player[edit]
Dear ANet,
I would like to say hi to you all, and thank you for your recent buffs to PvE skills. You successfully made PvE even more of a joke than it was before. I can see masses of X/A swarming any half decent loot place in hard mode because it's so easy to keep up now. Paragons will finally be a major part of every team because "Incoming!" has that kind of a duration now.
And finally, Faction will be even less valuable with even easier FFFing through Shasow Form.
Thank you, that I will now meet noobs in every high-end area because now their builds with no more than 10s of thinking will be enough to get there.
Love, - Y0_ich_halt

PvP NPCs[edit]

- Interesting. Suppose this would be because of the way it was implemented by applying a PvP (effect) to the players. But, I would think that it's an oversight on ANet's part. -- Inspired to ____ 19:13, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Mystic Regen[edit]
Dang this is all great, but I was like praying when you guys did this that mystic regeneration would be restored to its former glory in pve. Anyway great update! =D 65.34.193.183 15:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure...[edit]
Even with the slight increase in duration, does anyone else think that "Incoming!" is still a bit underpowered? I'm truthfully not sure.... -- Wandering Traveler 22:34, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- incoming is for spikes, but in pve, spikes = lolwhat Antiarchangel NO U 22:47, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's still underpowered. Problem is, if they increase the duration/slash the recharge, dedicated paragons can have 50% damage reduction up all the time. Oh wait, we already have "Save Yourselves!" and Ursan Blessing, so why would a meagre 50% damage reduction matter in PvE? Silavor 01:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
To all the people who say this update is bad[edit]
I am going to start by saying i do not want to see you you post anything against ursan blessing if you don't like this update, this is just the start they are going to try and fix all the skills that PvP broke for PvE and then they will be able to tone down Ursan.
2nd this is only the first batch of changes they will still probably be looking at new skills to change and some changes to revert so pls don't complain until they completely stop changing PvE skills. This may happen right now or in a few months, either way i will live with this because it shows that they are trying.
Lastly this update was proposed by many people myself included. However mine was included about a month ago. I know that means i am nowhere near the first to suggest it.
I am looking forward to the next batch of changes Tenri 03:28, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ditto :). |Foul Bane| 03:35, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- zzz. They're not going to tone down ursan. They put it in for the terrible players, and the terrible players aren't going to want to play balanced ever again, so ursan isn't going to go away. -Auron 03:41, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe not but at least if they make everything else viable people who don't want to use ursan they wont have to Tenri 04:51, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

The update IS baed. they WONT nerf ursan. and they made pve more of a joke than it was before, chain incoming. or hey,go perma sf for immortality, anything for the QQing noobs.Oni 12:44, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Chain incoming? Wtfx? Nobody would ever do that, it'd take four paragons (sacrificing their elites) to do what a single imbagon already does. Just run TNTF/SY, no need for incoming. -Auron 13:55, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- The idea is not bad, the differences between pvp and pve are ridicoulus. Why don't they just declare this game dead and leave it ro his eternal rest? Why trying to get something new from a dead horse. Make a good expansion and sell it (NOT like the shameful bonus missions plz) or just go away. - not signed--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:213.140.6.120 (talk).
Point me towards the suggestion box[edit]
One implementation I would like to see from this update, is the stupid messages we constantly get in chat when going to and from PvP/PvE areas. Every time I warp into my guild hall, I do not need to see 4 or 5 lines of: This skill for so-and-so's skillbar has been updated for PvP. Its just irritating, and would be nice if we could get an on/off toggle checkbox in options for this. Isk8 09:20, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Arenanet - More Suggestions[edit]
First off, I would like to thank those at Arenanet for their hard work and diligence in making these much-awaited changes. I am a PvE player that does some occasional PvP (Arenas, AB, and HA), and I am happy to see that in the future, changes for the GvG tournaments or whatever will no longer affect PvE.
However, I do feel that there are a couple skills that should be re-evaluated:
Quickening Zephyr (lower recharge or increase duration)
Mystic Regeneration (revert to original usage)
Shields Up (revert to original usage)
Ancestor's Rage (increased damage at lower attribute amounts)
Rodgort's Invocation (revert back to 5 second recharge)
Pious Haste (revert to original usage)
Storm Djinn's Haste (revert to original usage)
Flame Djinn's Haste (revert to original usage)
Ward Against Melee (revert back to 20 second recharge)
These are just the ones that come to me from the top of my head. I am sure there are others. And yes, I am one of the people that believe that Ursan needs to be nerfed in some way,and I think buffing the PvE versions of some other skills can assist in balancing out a good ursan nerf, therefore allowing for more variety in elite areas. For the longest time, I had refused to jump on the ursan bandwagon, but eventually I gave in, and now find myself using ursan for EVERYTHING, just because it makes everything so much more easy and faster. I think a good, solid, intelligent balance to skills for PvE, now that there is a PvP/PvE skill split, can be very useful if used in tandom with an ursan nerf to fully balance out how elite PvE is played. - † Lord Xivor † 15:19, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Suggestions would be more suitable to be posted at User_talk:Gaile_Gray/Guild_Wars_suggestions and would probably have a higher chance of being changed there. — ク Eloc 貢 01:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

May 21 or 22?[edit]
- → moved from Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard
I was trying to crunch up some statistics and came up with this weird stuff. If ANYONE is reading this, I have a discrepancy issue(no surprise there). In this page it claims a May 21 but the update was done in May 22(http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Game_updates/20080522), (http://www.warcry.com/news/view/84068-Guild-Wars-HUGE-PvP-PvE-Skill-Update). If anyone can fix that tid bit, that would be ok.--ShadowFog 14:52, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- This isn't an admin issue, but the dev notes says "To prepare players for the changes, we have decided to post this Dev Update as a preview. The skill changes will go live on May 22.", meaning they were put up in advance of the update itself. Probably doesn't need changing. -- Brains12 \ talk 15:08, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) First of all that page was created by Regina on the 21st, so the date is correct; even if the page was created later, that would be the official date. Also the Developer Update is not related to the Game update itself, which came later that night: Game updates/20080522. So everything is correct. poke | talk 15:12, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
