Talk:Grothmar Wardowns
Add the Vanguard Helmet?[edit]
hm, should the vanguard helmet be mentioned in this article? i think it should, it has an effect on several things. though i dont know if it should be under exits or not... it skips you to a cutscene and then to a new instance called "against the charr" though that instance plays in the same map as Grotmar Wardowns only with other objectives and spawns. just to show you what exactly is annoying about it, if you click it it says 'examine the helmet' with a yes and no option. I didnt expect (forgot what it did :P) that it would lead me to a new instance, so i lost my rank 3 bonus on reputation by choosing 'yes' of course :) anyway i think it should defenatly be mentioned here that clicking the helmet and choosing yes, makes you leave the area and loose all bonuses. Saelfaer 14:11, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- It's a NPC so I'll add it there. Backsword 09:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Note: Dialogues seems quest independent, so I'll add that here too. Backsword 09:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Chaelse Flameshielder[edit]
If I make her not spawn by doing Against the Charr first does anything spawn in her place or is that "base" just empty? Lyra Valo 21:38, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- If you have Failure to Communicate active, the group from that quest will spawn there, but otherwise it's empty except for a few Charr corspes.--Valshia 21:45, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Black Wolf[edit]
While I was questing here, I saw this black Wolf every time..I tried attacking it but it didnt work(wich u can do with other pets) haven't tried charming him, but I cudnt interact with it either, so was wonderin if this is just a bug, or is it meant to b that way?
- Black Wolf - Kiji 18:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Its similar to the rabbit but you can only charm. I'd offer it up as an anomaly. 84.92.169.252 01:32, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Grothmar[edit]
Has there been any actual, straight-from-aNet confirmation that the large, spiney mountain range is indeed an ancient dragon, and its name is Grothmar? The wording on the page seems awfully confirmative if the entire thing is officially still just speculative. Silavor 19:36, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- About grothmar, why exactly is he the water dragon?, It said in the little story of the dragons on the gw2wiki that the water dragon actually arose from the water... i think it is incorrect to assume that he is the water dragon... plus he resembles that of a making of the charr... it looks as if its a wall made by the charr imo... but idk...
- Quoted from the gw2wiki, "In the deepest waters of the sea, another dragon breathed, twisting the waters themselves into tentacled horrors that rose from every lake and river of the land."
Um, why do we assume that the dragons have a type?71.61.80.119 05:32, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Don't be silly. Every fool knows that dragons have a type, just like everyone knows that medieval and quasi-medieval dragons are not the same as modern dragons.
There is a concept drawing of the spine in one of the anet threads on conceptart.org that is named "waterdragon". Morgoth Bauglyr 15:35, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Easier Vanquish[edit]
If you are having trouble defeating Chaelse Flameshielder's group in the SE corner of the map, then first complete Assault on the Stronghold HM. I found it hard to pull or defeat her mob, so this strategy is good as upon completion of the mission, you will spawn in Grothmar and Chaelse's group will not. From there, you've got yourself an easy VQ :)--Albus Stormgaard 15:22, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
It is strongly advised to do this when vanquishing or bring frozen soil because I vanquished the whole area only to get to that group and not be able to kill them to get the credit for it. Completely impossible and somewhat discouraging to waste all that time vanquishing only to not get the credit. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.58.173.149 (talk).
- Meh i just used a devourer :p no troubles with respawns due to knockdown :d --91.108.148.73 16:47, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
I didn't quite understand, does Frozen Soil prevent mantids from resurrecting? The Masquerader 17:52, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
just gonnna go put this in...[edit]
i just vanquished Grothmar Wardowns and it took 240 kills... the notes says 217-237 im gonna change it to 217-240. --Mashav 22:18, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Comment on fish etc[edit]
The user User:70.251.156.107 has had an issue with his comments on the fish being removed, as brought up on the Wiki Help page. Please discuss or make comments here. I believe the user would like some evidence as to why his comments were removed as asked on my talk page. If someone could respond.- TheRave (talk) 01:16, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Gates of Kryta during the bonus, if you look in the waters. Also, the NF Character Selection screen had one swimming about. A shark in the waters is nothing special, its an ambient creature. --Ezekial Riddle 03:29, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
i have not seen any in the waters of kryat as for nf i cant either, as i said SCREENSHOOTS PLZ --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.251.156.107 (talk).

Missing Quest!!![edit]
Will someone with wiki format knowledge add the nine quests by Captain Langmar that seem to have been missed here?--MxBadBoy 00:32, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- I decided to add in the missing quests myself there was a total of 10 missing, If I have made a mistake in the formatting please fix it, but I couldn't sit here knowing that 10 quests hadn't been listed on this page.--MxBadBoy 15:03, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Vanquishing Tips?[edit]
Can anyone offer some help on this? I'm trying to vanquish it (and Sacnoth) but it just seems to be beyond me. I'm using heroes (sabway) and henchmen. I'm also next to the last rank of Ebon whatever. I'm assuming these are the hardest two in GWEN because I've done most of the others and haven't had much trouble. Is there a different team build I should use other than Sabway? What henchmen should I use? Thanks in advance Vidal 12:41, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- I used semi-Sabway (2 necros instead of 3) and didn't have too much of a problem with this area. Sacnoth was much more deadly, if only because of all the burning spirits. In general, however:
- Pull wisely. The mobs aren't too big, but 2 or more of them and you could be in trouble.
- Grabbing the siege devourer helps greatly, especially against the Charr who will conveniently ball up when you hit them with the siege attack.
- Cynn does lots of damage, and Meteor Shower is an extra KD. It never hurts to have another of those.
- Zho will be useful to keep the healers from healing too much.
- Consider bringing Frozen Soil, if you can't kill the Charr faster than they resurrect themselves (but with Sab, that shouldn't be a problem).
- Kill the Charr Flameshielders first. Having at least 2 interrupts in the party will be good (cf Zho and siege attack above).
- Pain Inverter will be useful against Molotov, as will YMLAD (he can be KDed, even if it might seem otherwise). Killing him while in the devourer is probably best, though.

- TBH the greatest problem here is the Monk boss (Chaelse Flameshielder). If you can take the measures to prevent him from spawning at all, do it (for example complete Against the Charr then start Vanquishing). The other Charr mobs can be taken care of without much trouble - did it with Assassin's Promise + Sin Support (I'm a Monk) and Discord heroes. Take Herta, she has excellent wards.--Sensei 13:30, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
...[edit]
The group with two prophets, a wardkeeper, a flameshielder, a hexreaper and an Avenger... The ward goes up, so I try to pull them out of it. Luckily, Ward Against Harm has no recharge time whatsoever, especially in Hard Mode, AND reduces everything to ~30 damage. Then, Wanderlust knocks everyone down who isn't running around, while the Flameshielder just nukes everything. Whenever I get one of the prophets down to 75% health, they get healed by the other one, and this goes on forever since Anet thinks it's funny that mobs have infinite energy. On top of that, there's massive AoE degen from the Hex Reapers, AND they all a 50% chance to block that entire ~30 damage. Sigh. 24.237.82.247 03:25, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- Which is why you have your own team. Especially nowadays, a mesmer has plenty of tools to mess up their strategy, especially when they're balled up in a ward sized area. An elementalist can toss meteor showers, maelström or just nukes in general to mess up their plans. Blocking? Plenty of tools to take out that option. Spirits die quickly, are single target and can be blocked, right? True, some charr groups have nasty sets of skills, but it's called HM for a reason. You need to be prepared to deal with these things one way or another. --Tenshi Samshel 13:31, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

So because i didnt spend a few minutes listening to some guys talk i dont get to do quest. W.T.F.
Vanquishing[edit]
you don't have to kill mantis that have resurected to gain the vanquish reward:
--Chan 10:30, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- 217foes, 1hr 16min, h/h, vanq/mapping. Took the suggestion of doing Against the Charr first (needed for book and took like 10min). Dont know how bad that mob really is but didnt wanna kill all the way there to find out I was ill equiped. I encountered a mob with a few healers and an avenger and that was bad enough. As a mesmer im fortunate to have Ineptitude and Technobabble which are lovely here. At minimum you want an interupt on your team to stop meteor shower & firestorm. Rezing charr are annoying but so long as you can stay alive they will drop eventually. My biggest issue was engaging a group and having another patrol jump me. Just keep an eye on the radar and this zone shouldnt be horrible. Justice 06:20, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- Did against the Charr first and upon loading into area there was a spawn of about 20 Charr which cant be pulled in smaller groups. Anyone else had same problem and maybe add bug note
- There is already this note: "However, if Plan A is active, then the camp will be filled with hordes of charr and your team will likely wipe. " Did you check if you are following Plan A? — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:23, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
210 foes on vq[edit]
I've vanquished this area a minute ago (with barrage/pet and full charrslaying mods, if anyone wants to know), and I received 1050 ttp and 1050g. There were 210 foes slain in the area. Since the page mentions 213, I thought putting this out here would help. 94.212.57.91 12:29, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- 236 foes vanquished in 47 min. Simple vanquish. In groups with multiple healers, slightly damage one so the others waste their prot/heals on it and are themselves unprotected. Then, spike the other. -Tangent 20:22, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- 224 in 50 mins (did Against the charr before). Discordway. That is all. --Osael 22:40, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
