Dungeon or explorable area?

Appears to be an explorable area because there was a sign post and a different portal that most likely led to dungeon lvl 2 of the Battledepths --Primeval Sentinel User Primeval Sentinel user icon.jpg Talk 22:14, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Just came in to it via bog root very currious what this "dungeon" has to do with multiple conections whitehike 18:35, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

You will need at least two real players Cyndr the Mountain Heart has to be hit with three of Budger Blackpowder kegs before you do damage.

Cyndr Boss not defeatable BUG

When I get to Cyndr I can disable his armor with 3 explosives, but then I can't damage him.

After he reappears he does no longer attack and I can only repeat to disable his armor but can't damage him and he disappears and appears again...

Anyone else got this problem? --RotzKotz ere 16:20, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Now I was able to damage him the first time, but no second time... --RotzKotz ere 20:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
I just tried it again, was able to damage him 2 times, no third.
Also noticed explosive packs will destroy cracked walls when placed, not when exploding. Just sent a ticket to the playNC support. Hope it will be fixed soon :/ --RotzKotz ere 20:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Right now i can damage him, but after my first blow he is gone again and when he comes back he has full health again. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 90.187.12.138 (talk • contribs) at 15:31, 22 October 2007 (UTC).
Just had the same bug now, fucking annoying! But after a while, we figured that (sigh) the necromancers barbs actually did damage to him. He just didnt bother to tell us in the half an hour we were there. 84.48.54.253 13:20, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Budger Blackpowder Bug

Budger Blackpowder sometimes won't respond making it impossible to do the quest, another web resource reports the bug is because a character that has completed it can't be in a party. Ive completed it twice, the second time helping a guild member, for a while it was bugged but after rezoning a few times we managed to get him to respond. Anyone aware of what triggers this bug? --Evil Geek 22:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Confirmed i had EXACT same problem still cant get him to respond to me though!!! - SOME ONE FIX IT PLEASE!!!!! --HexDSL 02:02, 6 September 2007 (GMT)

Excuse me? He doesn't even spawn!

He runs with you, but watch out he has a habit of taking routes where he gets stuck

I took my three ranger heros, and made them into touch rangers. I didn't even need to use kegs. I just kept spamming Breath of the great dwarf. By far, the easiest dungeon i have done. Not like Rragar's.

I have spent the last several hours clearing the entire 1st level looking for Budger and he never spawned in my instance....what is with that? I think I am going to just buy some kegs and carry them with me on the next run. I can't believe this hasn't been fixed!

Easy as Hell

Was this stupidly easy for anyone else? Two bouts of Dwarven Kegs and we beat him.

No, this is stupidly hard.--82.12.225.113 00:58, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
o.O? i had a full npc party, flagged them all at cast range from him. made my monk prot me and then just ran those kegs. second time it popped up i was lucky. it popped up next to budger, so i could just talk->drop, talk->drop. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 14:44, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Impossible?

I think the last addition to the note section is a bit rich.. Impossible to complete with heroes and henches? If that is in deed true (havent been down there since the last update), I expect some more proof than "due to the kegs and the amount of damage done by Cynder the Mountain Heart", like a bug of some sort. Difficult is not the same as impossible.--Lensor (talk) 11:03, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

No, I agree that this is impossible with NPC. I've been doing this for that last 4 hours with no advancement other than reducing the red bar down but it recharges too quickly.--Worldly Tutor 18:54, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

I have done this with heroes and henchies i played a sv necro had 3 blood necros using vamp gaze and offerng of blood alot took ages and i wouldnt recomend it but it CAN be done took 2 monk henchies talon and zho as henchies

Well, mileage obviously varies here. I've henched Cyndr a number of times and only had trouble on the first, after which I applied lessons learned. Use the flags to keep your party spread out (and away from the shooting flames) and keep prot spirit on yourself constantly as you run kegs. --Valshia 19:20, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
With good enough builds, it's definitely possible, but you aren't gonna manage it just by running down there without thinking it out. The amount of time it take to the boss makes this rather frustrating, but "impossible" is a bit of an exageration.172.212.27.253 22:03, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
I would agree that rushing in with builds created for general play is a recipe for both disaster and annoyance. But going in with PUGs can be even more Annoying, there is no problem with the right builds if you have them it's easy. I used two necromancers with the build described above, and a touch ranger, If you take some time to sort out hero armor and weapons, it really is easy. ~Necrolord Reaper

Agreed ... Impossible. Spent 2 hours trying to get to him. All skills are disabled including self heal & resurrect - What!!! Why on earth does the game disable my healing skills? 3 kegs to get his health down, only for him to disappear underground and reappear with full health. ~ Twisties34

How to get it

How does one get the quest afer completing it earlier. I went to Jalis in HM and didn't get it from him, no luck at the Scrying Pool either. -- Gem (gem / talk) 20:20, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Gem?
You can't get it again as it's not a repeatable quest. This is how quests normally works. Backsword 20:59, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
This is just a one-time quest to have to travel to the dungeon, Heart of the Shiverpeaks. It does not appear in your Hero's Handbook, however will show in your Master Dungeon Guide. If you want to repeat the dungeon, just enter it and tackle it.
How do I get against Cyndr again then? I know I've fought against him twice in normal mode, so the quest could be retaken earlier, or there is another way to get him instead of Magmus. Have they changed it? -- Gem (gem / talk) 21:08, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Magmus it the Boss of the Heart of the Shiverpeaks dungeon. Cyndr will only be available when you or someone in your party is working on this quest. Bear in mind that Cyndr's drops will be in Magmus chest, anyway, so there's little reason to worry about fighting that specific boss again. Hope that helps :)
Thanks, but I know that the chest is the same. The reason why I was confused is that I did kill Cyndr personally two times with only me and my girlfriend in the party. We also both did the quest on the first time so we must have received the quest a second time somehow. This is what made me think it's a repeatable quest. As this isn't the case there must have been some sort of a bug earlier. -- Gem (gem / talk) 23:19, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

does that really not work like, skill fail, or did the writer simply not notice that it negates cyndr's regen? - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 17:39, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

It was probably when the carapace was up. You can cast it but it never goes on Cyndr. 75.45.160.30 01:34, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

This is absolutely the most dumbest amaturish mission in Guild Wars, pure suckage. Developers please next time don't hand the tools to monkeys. Why implement heroes in eotn if things like this exist? There comes a huge fireball, move heroes and still get hit. Heroes can't use your Norn, Asuran, Vanguard and Dwarf PvE skills...Why implement heroes here then? MOTN Title and this Quest

Does completing this quest give you the 10 points the NM dungeon would normally give for the Master of the North title the first time you beat it or do we need to go back through the normal dungeon to get the 10 points? 24.188.207.20 03:36, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

This is more for historical reasons since the post is fairly old, but yes, you do get MotN title points both times. Whether you do it in HM or NM, the first time the boss is always Cyndr the Mountain Heart, the second and subsequent times the boss is Magmus and you get 10 MotN title points for NM and 20 for HM. --Falseprophet 15:56, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Notes Confusion

moved from article

Could the note stating "attack Cyndr from behind the entrance wall edge...remember to take your entire party to the place most opposite the entrance" be expounded upon a bit further? This statement appears confusing, seemingly saying opposite things. "attack cyndr at the entrance, but don't do that, because you and your entire party need to be most opposite the entrance so cyndr will come out where you want him to." Also the statement, "Ranger's apply poison is useful and a skill which will give energy boost can help keep the necromancer's energy full for the gaze skills." This statement appears to be saying to me the following: "A ranger using the apply poison skill will cause an increase in the energy bar for the necromancer's gaze skills. I have read several of the life stealing skills, and none of them mention any correlation between a Ranger applying poison causing a necromancer to gain more energy. I'm not trying to criticize, I just am having trouble actually understanding why applying poison makes any difference to cyndr and it's relation to your hero necromancer's gazing skills. I do not understand how to properly fight cyndr without being blown up instantly from the first hit cyndr attacks with time and time again. I am so frustrated being unable to beat GW:EoftN because of this quest, having gone to the trouble of making 3 different characters just to get past this quest on my own.cecil 13:04, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I rephrased it a bit. Made it clear that you use the wall to your advantage and to get cyndr in the proper positioning, your team needs to be farther away. And i think they got confused about Angorodon's Gaze --JonTheMon 14:10, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
I appreciate that very much - thank you! (sorry this thank you came so late, it is/ and was very much appreicated (also thank you to user Thried for helpful comments) cecil 04:10, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Lure him?

It doesn't seem possible to lure him, he seems to pop up at predetermined locations around the room. And once he is up, he'll never go back down unless you blast him three times. So, the note, "One tactic is to lure Cyndr close to the entrance and use life stealing skills..." doesn't seem to help much. Besides, he regenerates so you'd have to do a lot of life stealing and often. 174.16.65.163 10:06, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it was difficult. Here is my strategy.

My usual set of heroes and henchmen was quickly decimated by Cyndr. I tried a few times after resurrection, but soon saw how useless it was. I then put Vampiric Gaze on my necro and myself as suggested in the notes. That wasn't enough as Cyndr regenerates health quickly compared to my lower attribute levels for Vampiric Gaze. Here is what worked for me. I gave my monk hero Protective Bond and Life Bond (to cast on me). I also put Blood is Power on my necro (to cast on my monk). I flagged all heroes/henches in the hallway that leads to the chamber, made my monk bond me and I walked out to activate Cyndr. From my experience, he pops up at random locations, though he /may/ pop up closer to the hallway if you are standing in entry way to his chamber, this is what you want. If Cyndr pops up close to the hallway (usually left or right), then he will be preoccupied trying to kill your heroes/henches that are protected by the hallway. If he is not, then he focuses fire on you. Usually he will knock you down and cripple you or blow up the keg that you are holding, this makes it very difficult to drop a keg at his side and survive. In such case, I found that strafing left-right very quickly helped me get closer to him to drop a keg. I also didn't have self-heal skills so I would run by the hallway for a healing.

If Cyndr was far from the hallway, I would drop 3 kegs on him and then go stand in the entryway hoping that he'll respawn close to the hallway. If he was near the hallway, just before dropping the third keg, I unflagged my fighters and they came running out to fight. When the 3rd keg hits Cyndr, he sits there defenseless. The first few times I did this, I was able to get him down to 1/4 health remaining. The plan was then to do the whole thing again quickly before he regenerated health, but usually something would go wrong or he'd pop up in a bad spot. Finally, I was able to kill him starting with a full health bar, I'm not sure how we did that much damage, but I wasn't complaining. However, you may have to do this two or three times in a row to finally kill him. 174.16.65.163 20:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Tactic to win fairly easily..

I'm pretty much restating what other people have already said, but w/e, this guy's annoying. To kill Cyndr using only heroes and henchies, bring any hero with protective spirit and your other heroes dont truly matter, just try to bring blood magic and poison/bleeding. Flag your heroes behind the entrance to the right, behind the little bit of gate that sticks out from the wall. Have your protter cast Protective Spirit on you and run back and forth, bombing Cyndr with kegs. as soon as his shell goes down, unflag your heroes and spike him with everything you've got. I happened to use a spirit bomber build, which worked like a charm. Ta-da. ПALANA 21:03, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

I went R/N and brought 2 R/N heroes. Went toucher build. He went down in under 30 seconds. Ta-Da. simpler. personn5User Personn5 sig.jpg
Indeed it is, but what if you aren't conveniently a ranger/necro? And i was more talking about how to position him and plant the kegs without getting nuked. ПALANA 22:46, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
"but what if you aren't conveniently a ranger/necro?"
Heroes. personn5User Personn5 sig.jpg 22:48, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
OK, bring toucher heroes, that is definitely good. It's also not really what I was talking about, hence "your other heroes dont truly matter, just try to bring blood magic and poison/bleeding." Touchers would fit nicely into the blood category. Again, I was just pointing out how to pull Cyndr so you are safe behind a wall and to prot yourself as you run the kegs to him. Soloing as a Ranger

I was just able to solo Cyndr with my Ranger. I figured I'd post up what I did to help out anyone who's having trouble.

Coming into the mission I came with a Hero/Henchie group that included two monks to get me through the levels to travel up to Cyndr. Once I was up to him, I flagged my Heroes and Henchies just enough so that my monks were close enough to heal me as I stood by the entrance to attack Cyndr, but far enough to not get hurt. Standing by the entrance, I attacked Cyndr by only using two skills: Ebon Vanguard Sniper Support to make him bleed, then followed that skill by casting Signet of Infection to make him poisoned. I also attacked using my Ironwing Longbow which does 5 life stealing. It took a little while to kill him, but by keeping him poisoned and doing life stealing, it was a simple and very easy way to kill him.
