Minor Houses[edit]

I'm just curious where are the houses Gorhopf and Ulrikar mentioned. I've done several Kurzick quests and talked to many of the NPCs, but I don't recall any reference to these houses. Tedium 23:23, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm assuming that it's because of Dunmel Gorhopf, who gives the quest Wicked Wardens. He says:
"We must live in harmony with the forest, using its resources with care. House Gorhopf has always dedicated itself to teaching others the importance of living in harmony with the forest. How may I help you?"
So yes, he must have a house. And Baron Ulrikar was a Kurzick refugee who travelled to Kryta with his daughter, Meika Ulrikar about Captain Yimuru's Wind Dancer to escape the war and start anew. However, some Luxons had also established a settlement in Kryta, and depending on the player's choice in a quest that has since been removed, one of the settlements was destroyed and its inhabitants killed. Eventually the remaining faction's members were banished from Kryta for causing civil unrest, however Meika and her lover Dalos Ekarus, still remain in North Kryta Province, building new lives for themselves. I hope that helped :) --Santax (talk · contribs) 07:15, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Has anyone noticed?[edit]

That when you work for the opposite faction in an area controled by the opposite faction, (in this example, Luxon) characters respond differently? Like this...

I know (player's lead guild name) is considered an ally of the Kurzick nation, but just wearing that cape doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. Everyone knows you've been siding with us Luxons when you could. That means I can't help you. These Kurzick dogs are looking for any excuse to slaughter everyone here. Now's not the time to fight them.

Also, when Kurzick NPC respond to this Luxon worker:

It is true that (player's lead guild name) is officially alligned with the Kurzick nation, but simply wearing the cape doesn't mean that you can do whatever you want. From what I've heard, you've been helping the Luxons every chance you get. I provide my services for Kurzicks and our allies only. Begone before I call for a guard!

Should we add a note to the pages of dialog? --People of Antioch talk User People of Antioch sig.png 05:31, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

The dialogs depend on your guild and the faction your account currently has (even if you are in a Luxon alliance, when you have more Kurzick than Luxon faction, Luxon NPC's won't offer you their services).— Golem.jpg Ciborg Main PvE.png 11:38, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Jade as a scarce resource?[edit]

Is it just me, or does jade not seem like a scarce resource as the article states? Since the whole Jade Sea is jade... User Sarifael Sig.jpgSarifael 14:35, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

For Luxons, it's a common resource. For Kuzicks it's a rare resource. Their only locations to get it are heavily guarded by Luxons due to Amber being a rare resource for them (read: Luxons). So while it is technically a common resource, as is Amber, for the opposing faction it is rare due to the war causing inability to get the opposing lands' resource. -- Azazel the Assassin/talk 21:17, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Yesterday I was in The Deep mission, watching all the jade around me, and I was wondering about that. Luxon armor crafters offer you armors made of Jade (and ask for lots of money for the material) while you're in a sea made of jade. It's a bit weird...— Golem.jpg Ciborg Main PvE.png 11:40, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Maybe they can...only use certain kinds of jade? ?_? Don't ask questions! XD Green User Green Arrow sig.gif Arrow 01:20, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Maybe each faction should hire players to smuggle the materials in for them :P ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 01:21, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
It also makes the entire Jade Quarry mission seem pointless. The entire area is made out of Jade and yet you're fighting over 3 specific points to mine it from. I think the only logical explaination is that the majority of jade isn't up to workable quality. It happens a lot with other materials in real life and since the Jade Sea formed in one instant from moving water it wouldn't suprise me if a lot of it is flawed. Still seems silly to fight over it though. 86.178.161.176 11:30, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
IP, you're actually correct: "the jade that makes up its petrified waves is not necessarily of the best quality. The Jade Quarry has been literally carved from the stretch of seabed that contains the finest and most valuable jade derived from the mineralized bodies of countless sea creatures." from either of the Jade Quarry outposts. The Jade Quarry is pretty much the best jade mining site in the entire Jade Sea, hence why it is fought over. Jadite Shards in general hold magical qualities and as pointed out via the description, not all of it is a good quality, thus it rather is a scarce resource, especially so to the Kurzicks, since they only get the bay areas of the Jade Sea. -- Konig/talk 11:58, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
So, seeing as Jadeite is scarce to the Kurzicks, shouldn't they offer a "reward" for us bringing that resource to them? Let's say in the form of armor? or weapons even. I mean, if the materials linked to the opposite faction is the most rare, then why do they not reward even better if we could bring that to them?... shouldn't be that hard for a Kurzick Armorer to get his hands on Amber, compared to Jadeite... just random speculations, on year-old comments 77.213.235.141 22:22, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Because the armor is made out of amber (it's more obvious on some more than others). Armor crafters require the items to make the armor, not items the people need. Though you raise a good point on why there isn't a collector taking the opposite's material. Probably done because if you're Kurzick you can't get Jadeite and originally it was suspected/intended for a single player to be one side only. That's my guess at least. Konig/talk 02:47, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
That is fair enough. It would be expecting a bit much from the developers perhaps. And you're right that it's not easy to acquire Jadeite if you're a kurzick, and other way around. I am grateful for your response :) 77.213.235.141 13:55, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Kurzick names conform similarly with German names or German phonology and semantics.[edit]

Some examples I recognized:

  • The name Kurzick itself carries the group of letters "ck" in it, that has it origin in the German language.
  • House zu Heltzer. The "zu" implies a Royal or noble rank in teh German language.
  • Konrad Vasburg. The first name is Old Germanic the Second contains "Burg" (en.: castle) in it.
  • Saint Melodie. Melodie is German for melody.
  • Durheim. Heim = home
  • Gorhopf. "pf" is a German semantic group of letters (Kopf=head, Apfel=Apple, Pferd=horse). "Hopfen" is the plant hop.

There are much more examples. Some names also sound East European to me.

Imho it should be mentioned that most Kurzick names have german orign.

I can just guess that Kurzicks have German origin such as Cantha has Chinese origin and Elona has African origin. It's good to know that. ^^ — Golem.jpg Ciborg Main PvE.png 11:43, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Also, lots of Kurz NPC's have the rank "Kommandant", which is a German commando.

Name[edit]

umm interesting: 'kurz' in german means 'short', does it mean kurzick is like 'shorty' or something? >_> --82.166.113.80 19:47, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Not necessarily but if the "ick" is derived from some other german word, then there could be a trivia reference. -- Konig/talk 21:42, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
According to google translate "Kur zick" means "short zig" (zig as in zigzag)in German --Tallons 01:33, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Then how about kurz-ick = short-dick? 209.152.66.149 20:42, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Table formatting[edit]

For the sake of readability in the table of Kurzick houses, I suggest one of these changes:

  • Switch the top two headers so the line "Great Houses" comes on top.
    • Optionally also copy the coloumn titles and inject them below the header "Other Known Houses"
  • As above, plus splitting the table into two, with "Other known Houses" separate from the other, unless an option exist to modify a single table row so a blank line can be injected between the sections with invisible left and right hand borders. The latter is preferred since it avoids splitting into two tables and keep both table sections the same width. Also, it may not need the optional step above to retain good readability.

LarsV 02:33, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

So what you're wanting is this?
Great Houses
House Leader(s) Main settlement Patron god Patron saint
Brauer Count Archek Brauer Brauer Academy Lyssa Saint Perahta
Durheim Count Durheim
Countess Sandra Durheim
Durheim Archives Grenth Saint Ehren
zu Heltzer Count Petrov zu Heltzer House zu Heltzer Dwayna Saint Viktor
Lutgardis Duke Holtz Lutgardis Lutgardis Conservatory Melandru Saint Melodie
Vasburg Baroness Attia Vasburg
Baron Mirek Vasburg
Vasburg Armory Balthazar Saint Anjeka
Other Known Houses
Gorhopf unknown unknown unknown unknown
Ulrikar Baron Ulrikar unknown unknown unknown
That... isn't how tables work. And, imo, makes it worse (even more worse if they're split or the first row duplicated). It's perfectly readable now. I don't think such an option you want for the second's latter exists, and splitting into two would hold no benefit. This table is no harder to read than any hostile NPC group from multiple campaigns. Though looking at it now, and knowing what's on each house's page, I question the need for this table at all, tbh. Konig/talk 02:40, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
The layout you showed above is what my initial suggestion would also be. The only time it would need copying the coloumn headers would be if it was possible to "fake" a split table with a borderless empty row, making it appear as like it's two tables. But that would only serve to make it visually different and not improve much, if any. LarsV 03:00, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
