The computer is a cheating bastard — the difference between challenging and cheap[edit]
Anet needs to read this The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard and realize the difference between challenging and cheap --DWFreak 15:48, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done. Considering the base mechanics of the game where built upon a level 20 cap for players, and the hardest content in the game was supposed to be PvP, the only thing they can do now is make high level overpowered mobsHanokOdbrook 18:48, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- The only way to make something more challenging would be to improve AI. Even balanced enemies aren't truly challenging - they just prevent the use of gimmicks (or rather, reduce the use). -- Konig/talk 22:48, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- The tougher the foes, the quicker we can kill them. ^_^ --Falconeye 03:49, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- Anet knows that, and since these quests are optional, "[t]he Computer is still Cheating, but not a Bastard, since you asked for it" i guess. —ZerphaThe Improver 16:04, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

- My guild does these with full human balanced parties. Totally doable and fun, I also did Villainy with heroes and it wasn't impossible with the right skills and tactics. (ie kill sins with res sigs first... or just bring FS) I think the idea here is just to get us playing together again, or at least just thinking about tactics. Or maybe it's to get people to buy mercs so they can take an uber fail 7 necro team in. 24.193.226.245 13:15, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Not a challenge[edit]
Actually, this is not a challenge. More like LOLZ OVERAGRO! Stuff like this kinda railroads players into using one slim specific team setup. They could've easily added some monster skills to make things interesting (that we have to counter) rather than insane mob numbers. But I guess adding +9001 enemies to a mob = "so called challenge". For a measly reward of 5k gold and 30k exp you're better off playing virtually anywhere else in the game than actually attempting this nonsense. What a shame. Yu Takami 17:58, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- Reward is fine for what the quest is, it took about 15 minutes for me. 5k per 15 min is alright. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 18:59, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- It doesn't take a specific team setup. My friend and I took exactly the same group we have been using to kill off the Kessex Three every couple of weeks, using a team composition designed for something else (specifically: to VQ Drazach Thicket). Since we forgot to read anyone else's walkthrough or suggestions, we didn't have a strong counter vs multiple healers...so it took us longer than it could have.
- On the other hand, we do agree that the reward of 5k cash + 30kxp probably isn't enough to tempt us to come back with a more efficient team. Instead, we are looking forward to seeing the next iteration in the HM-only quests (especially if ANet calls them something more creative, e.g. AI Cheating mode or Stummified mode). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:04, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- I did it with the same team I use for nearly every other area in hard mode -- didn't even bring Frozen Soil. Yeah, it took longer than it should have, but if anything it also made it more interesting, since the challenge became to kill them faster than they could resurrect. I'd rate it as less difficult than Slaver's HM actually, where not bringing FS got me wiped quick smart. -- Hong 19:33, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- Slaver's Exile's HM "elite difficulty" is easier then DoA's HM/UW's HM "master difficulty". These hard mode quests are cakewalk... they just take a while. --108.38.126.227 05:44, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
So when do more come?[edit]
It's mean almost a month ago that Villainy of Galrath Hm was released. When do they make more? One quest a month is a bit less, since it should be very hard to tweak an existing quest :\ (I bet the next quest will be either Captured Son or Althea's Ashes) -- Magamdy 14:01, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- Todays update apparently added the HM versions to the Titan Quests--90.230.1.133 21:22, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- meh, that last one was very hard in NM already o_O -- Magamdy 08:08, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, so far they've gone with taking quests that were already notably difficult and amping them up. What would be funny is taking an easy quest (ideally a trivial one, where all you have to do is talk to an NPC) and making it crazy hard. I nominate Taking Back the Palace. -- Hong 18:59, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
- That quest is a primary, but I agree with your point :P. That would be awesome ^^ -- Magamdy 19:12, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

- I think that would be fun. However, while Galrath and the Titan quests were difficult when GW first arrived, changes (PvE skills, 5-7 heroes, various meta builds) since then have turned them into a cake walk: if you can handle WiK in HM, then you shouldn't have any trouble with the NM variations in NM. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:21, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
- The Titan Source was an exception to that, since the party size is only 4 (or 6 if you go from Yak's), so it remains quite a challenge. Of course Villainy of Galrath would be easy with 7 heroes, but when I first did it, a lvl 16 Proph char without any knowledge what heroes are, its hard, I can tell you :I -- Magamdy 08:25, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Confusing Notes[edit]
The second to last, and last note conflict with eachother. So which is it? --96.244.250.239 15:22, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- They dont conflict; its how they're automatically listed. --Falconeye 16:22, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- They way they were phrased left it open to an interpretation that suggested a conflict. I've tried to rephrase to avoid that. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:28, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks that clears it up--96.244.250.239 17:50, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Repeatable?[edit]
Are hard mode quests repeatable? Or are they one shot and you're done, like all the other quests? --Musha 02:37, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
Campaign requirement is incorrect.[edit]
I have a factions-born character that has not completed prophecies (in fact, hasn't even made it to Ember Light Camp) and has the HM version of Villainy of Galrath in the log. So, despite Zack saying that Hell's Precipice is a requirement for it, I don't believe it. His comments suggest that they haven't changed the requirements recently, so... I suspect something else is going on.
I have completed the campaign with a Tyrian-born toon on the same account, so maybe the acct just needs to be unlocked.
In any case, I think the note should be removed unless can confirm the current phrasing. 75.36.177.228 03:57, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- Similar here; my Assassin has not completed prophecies and yet was able to take and complete Villany HM - my warrior has previously unlocked Hm from Hell's precipice. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 07:27, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- What is the primary profession of your Factions-born character that can receive the quest? --Silver Edge 08:16, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- From the Support Forum: "My lvl 20 mesmer who has Hard Mode unlocked and is from Prophecies just completed the regular version of the quest “The Villainy of Galrath,” but no matter how many times I reload the game the HM version does not become available."
- From The Villainy of Galrath (Hard mode) talk page: "My necro just finished the nm version, he's lvl 20 but he can't take the HM quest. He isn't from prophecies but neither is my derv who has no trouble taking the quest. Do you need to have completed Prophecies campaign?" Also from that talk page: "My Warrior from Prophecies can't seem to get the HM quest either, and I did complete the normal mode quest."
- After reading those I think there is probably a bug that prevents a character from any campaign from receiving The Villainy of Galrath (Hard mode) if that character has a core profession as their primary and hasn't completed Hell's Precipice, even though the account has Prophecies Hard Mode unlocked. --Silver Edge 08:16, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, that's who I mean. Sigh. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:09, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- I can probably check that soon (I mostly haven't bothered to complete prophecies on any of my toons except for the first one — poor rewards and use of time). I have a Factions-ele and a NF ranger, so I'll have them both hit Verata after dealing with the Kessex Trifecta in a few days. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:39, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
- Verata? Don't you mean Galrath? --Silver Edge 03:21, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
(Reset indent) As noted at Talk:The_Villainy_of_Galrath_(Hard_mode)#Requirements, the must complete campaign prerequisite stated by ANet appears to be incorrect. I have changed the text accordingly. I haven't had a chance to test Silver Edge's theory yet (Canthan or Elonan toon with core prof), but will attempt to do so this week. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 15:36, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
What now?[edit]
I've updated the Light my Fire and When Kappa attack pages w/ the correct prereqs, but what do I have to do now so that this list shows them correctly? Steve1 13:55, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
- Think I've fixed your problem. I clicked on the clock at the top of the window nr your Username. It updates the wiki cache on the page - and in this case refreshes the DPL listings. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 14:47, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thx, was posting a nvm while you were also posting. :D Steve1 14:48, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
