Mini Mania[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

Questions? First question, Is the Mini Mania!!1! supposed to be Mini Mania!!!! since if you don't hold shift down ! becomes 1.

Second question, Do we have to register for all the drawings or once we register we are entered in all three drawings?

Thanks, this looks like a fun event if I get one. :)-- Natalie Black User NatalieBlack sig.jpg 21:24, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Typo. LOL! - UserDrago-sig.gif Drago 21:25, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I think it could be intentional, as using a 1 in a string of exclamtion marks is often used to parody people in a moment of excitment. I could be wrong though...Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 21:29, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Let me just get this straight, not only does the US get a new mini but they now get access to a whole lot of minis which we had to buy to access over in the EU? OH well. Enjoy my american friends and good luck ta ya all! Heres hoping us Europeans get the same chance one day. -- Salome 21:34, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, so usually the US gets all the cool stuff like brand the boss contests etc. When EU one time gets a miniature promotion the US players come to Gailes talk page crying that it's unfair and now they get TWO miniature promotions within a couple months, one of them totally free? Where's the justice in that? Last time I had to arrange two copies of the PC Gamer from the US just to get the Asura and now that isn't even possible. How about making this stuff international instead of US-only? Not that it matters a whole lot, but at the same time it does matter. -- Gem (gem / talk) 21:38, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I got the destroyer pc gamer special in my shop in the UK. :) --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 21:42, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I think its slightly unfair that europe gets so little attention in terms of promotional events, pet, contests and more. Doesnt Europe have most players? I think we Europeans don't get enough attention. Inquisition
I'm seriously tired of not being able to participate in any contest because I live in Puerto Rico ._. --Doll 22:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I would like to answer some of the questions or concerns in this post:

  • First, yes, the "1" in the banner is a joke. If you think that people won't understand it, we can modify if. Sam was having fun with the idea, an it made me laugh, too.
  • Regarding how many times to enter, here is your answer: "# Entries must be submitted for the monthly drawings at least 12 hours in advance of the drawing date. Entries for each month's random drawing must be received prior to Noon Pacific on the final day of the month and must be in English. Drawings will take place at Midnight of the final day of the months of October, November, and December. Participants need enter only once during the three-month sweepstakes period to be eligible for monthly prizes."
  • As I have said before, we're trying very hard to find a means to get various of the older rares and ultra-rares into the hands of players. One such means is the European promotion, a second is the North American promotion, and the third is the Halloween Art Contest. Promotions vary, depending on the regional marketing team's objectives and the opportunities that are offered them by various partners. Even in a broad promotion, like the current one in Europe, you will see differences, it's true. It's my objective to continue to suggest, and help with, more global initiatives in the future.
  • Unfortunately, many countries, even entire continents, are not able to participate in the contests and promotions. This is because of local and regional laws, and is contributed to by the fact that we do not have the opportunity for a legal review in every country in which we'd like to offer such a contest or promotion. Looking into the opportunity of truly offering a global opportunity, for anyone, anywhere, the costs would exceed one hundred thousand dollars simply to obtain the legal reviews, and even were we able and willing to pay that cost, there would still be many countries in which the promotion or contest was illegal. We truly love the idea of global programs, contests, and sweepstakes, but unfortunately, they are not possible. In the meantime, again, we'll move towards offering what our various programs to as broad a base as possible. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:44, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I hope your planning on doing something that Australian's can enter, I would of thought mini mania would be open, like all the US competitions, but its not. Keirou 00:08, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
The NCsoft European PR and Marketing teams will continue to try to place promotions of this sort in publications in Australia and New Zealand, along with many other countries not currently hosting such an opportunity. As you know, NCsoft Europe is the publishing office responsible for Aus/NZ, and they were able to place the Asura promotion and I'm sure will continue to strive to find a means to offer a suitable opportunity in the future. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 00:30, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Now I kinda feel left out from all the goodies. It seems that us living in the third world is often disregarded. My question now is if my boyfriend has access to my account but he's currently living in Canada, is it against the EULA to make him register for me?
Now I feel bad for not supporting the Asura event. They didn't have the article and they only had the minature so I didn't really want to pay $10 for the Minature Code. Maybe next time I will support it even if there is no article for me to read - I badly want to read the mag with all the concept art and GW2 info :(. 122.104.229.93 04:01, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Err, the Asura miniature is from before GW:EN was released. That magazine had some articles on GW2 and GW:EN. The magazine with concept art and a purely GW2 info had the Destroyer miniature. -- ab.er.rant sig 05:32, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
What I'm curious about is how ArenaNet plans to give the access key to players. Since legal issues come into consideration, I'm guessing ArenaNet plans to send the access keys to players, as in actual pieces of paper. I don't understand why ArenaNet couldn't just automatically add the access keys to the winners' accounts. That would allow the giveaway to be a global event won't it? Or am I mistaken about the legal issues that is involved? Or even better, just add the miniature itself to our accounts, much like how the birthday presents are done... no? -- ab.er.rant sig 05:49, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Why not just sell Minis trough online store? Prices could be based on demand within some limitations, instead of making "partners" able to sell more of their merchandise to GW players, Gw players will provide increased founds for Anet directly. Biz 06:06, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Gaile for answering my questions. I personally don't get the 1 being in there but it is fine in there I guess :) Good to know I only have to sign up once. -- Natalie Black User NatalieBlack sig.jpg 19:39, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
It is a reference to a sort of internet "l33t" speak thing. The idea is you are so EXCITED!!!1!!!11!! you don't hold the shift button down properly while doing all of the exclamation marks and therefore end up with a couple of 1's. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 19:57, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Ya now I get it!!!1!1!!! :) Thanks Lemming64 for explaining it. -- Natalie Black User NatalieBlack sig.jpg 01:44, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Mini Mania vs Quebec[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

Why is Quebec excluded from this Contest? I can understand that we are excluded from contests offering prizes that worth real money since if it exceeded 100$ Anet would have to give a % of the prize's value to the RACJ and they would have to submit to all kind of other regulations. But Mini Mania give a virtual prize which have no monetary value and because of that, the Publicity contests regulations do not apply. Funnily though, Anet links to the regulation about publicity contests in their contest faq but it looks like they forgot to read rule #1 at the top of the page... So I, and many other people from Quebec, would like to know why are we excluded from this contest. 74.56.63.215 08:37, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I knew Quebec had different laws regarding contests, but if there's a chance we might be included... please ANet check it out carefully with your lawyers! Alaris 13:59, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I checked with our Legal Counsel before I ever posted that page. Quebec, with regret, cannot be included. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 16:16, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I had a wee read of the linked page. To the OP, wouldn't this current competition instead apply as a lottery after a fashion, as your not guaranteed a mini pet, instead it is like a lottery in how they are given away. Thus doesn't that make this instead fall under the "lottery etc..." regs.I would need to read the full act to be certain as there may be a wee sub section which clarifies and states that the term "lottery" only applies to certain instances but from what i skimmed it would seem to be much harder for anet to apply this competition with quebec. -- Salome 17:55, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
That is an interesting analysis, Salome, and may well be accurate. I didn't ask the attorney for too many details, after saying "Please?" "Pretty please?" about the option. He's a great guy, and I know he's give us the go-ahead to offer, if it were possible. In the meantime, the whole "lottery" issue may be relevant, even for items with no asserted real-world value. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I think it is indeed. Ours laws about this matter are there so that all thing similar to gambling is not encouraged this early in kids lives. But still, it always has been a shame that full grown up guys like me can't even submit drawing (or 3D rendering) when there's a desing a weapon contest or anything similar. I would gladly forfait any prize just to see in the game something i would had done. But, time has passed and i've get over it. But still...
Preceeding comment was by me, sorry, i did not see i was not login. TulipVorlax 00:27, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

(resetting indent) If I recall correctly, which I likely do not, the reason this contest is void in PQ is that the LotoQuebéc is taxed (bloody everything is taxed in la belle province). Soo... since other contests and the like are prohibited where that occurs (again, I'm probably violently fallacious, here) since this is a contest that mostly takes place IRL, it is prohibited as well. So yea, my likely skewed and misinterpreted thoughts. Mesodreth Blackwing 06:11, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Whoa![edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

I'm having issues filling out the form, when I put my account name in, it tells me I have an invalid character, even though I enetered it exactly as is in-game. - UserDrago-sig.gif Drago 21:31, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Are you entering a character name? Or do you mean a character in your account name, like a letter, symbol, or number? The request is for the account name, like (name)@(emailaddress.something). If there's an issue, please do let me know as soon as possible. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:45, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
OOOOOOOOOOH. I misunderstood, I thought you meant the account name as given by Tolkano. - UserDrago-sig.gif Drago 23:55, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Possible Fix for Eligibility Issues[edit]

I was thinking... why not have the contest in-game? Kind of like Tolkano or the Xunlai Tournament house. Have some NPC to sign up to and then ppl who do would randomly get a gift box with the mini in it if they won. Mesodreth Blackwing 06:27, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Multiple Entries[edit]

I can't remember if I entered or not, but in reading over the rules it says if I enter multiple times I'll be disqualified, is there a way to find out if you've already entered so you don't accidentally disqualify yourself? Dargon 21:32, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

No, I'm sorry, there is no way to show if you have entered. We assume that people will remember that for themselves, and I didn't ask for programming that gives that information. If we did have that programming, we'd probably get support tickets saying "It says I entered, but I didn't. Can you fix it?" So really, the best thing to do is ask each person simply to be responsible for his/her entry. Hope that makes sense to you. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:25, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
It does make sense however, I don't recall even getting an email saying I'd successfully entered the contest. I think it would be slightly more fair to simply disregard any multiple entries rather than disqualify. I work with databases for a living and so while I don't know the format of the database you guys are storing the entry info in, you should be able to index on the distinctive account login information and set the index to not allow dupes. People could enter 30 times if they want, but unless they have 30 accounts, it's only going to count as a single entry. Dargon 07:43, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
