Panic[edit]
Why is this on the list? It doesn't cause damage over time, so nobody would expect it to cause scatter. The same could possibly be said of Whirling Defense. Mist Y (talk) 00:47, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- The interesting case with both Panic and Whirling is that they behave as AoE's and the AI should recognize them as such, but they don't. For Panic, the AI should kite apart to reduce Panic's impact, but since it's not damage I guess it shouldn't be on the list. Perhaps a note (or anomaly) on the skill's page would be better. In Whirling's case the amount of targets it can affect in the area of effect is essentially limitless, but since it is damage it should cause scatter in higher volumes. I suppose the AoE being conditional makes it behave the way it does. For farming's sake I'm glad it doesn't cause it, though. - Infinite - talk 01:41, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Scatter is only caused by skills that deal AoE damage each second (or in Meteor Shower's case, every 3 seconds), though. There is no reason we should expect Whirling to scatter. Otherwise we'd also have to include Spiteful Spirit. I don't care to get into a revert war though, so I'll leave that to you! Mist Y (talk) 16:26, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- I was going to make the Meteor Shower argument if it came up, but now this is awkward lol. I vaguely remember other AoE skills with negative effects that cause scatter. Don't Sand Shards and Vow of Strength also trigger scatter when attacking a group with 33% IAS? I have an idea for Whirling, though. - Infinite - talk 19:27, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Sand Shards and VoS don't cause scatter, no. Are you confusing it with HM melee scattering?
- I think the Whirling note is a tenuous connection; you could list lots of AoE skills that are useful for farming but have no reason for people to expect them to cause scatter. A note about Wastrel's Demise might be appropriate though, since it has other properties that make it useful for farming. Mist Y (talk) 03:54, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
- I might have remembered it wrong, yeah. Do you reckon it would be better to move Whirling up to sit alongside the note about Panic and Spiteful? - Infinite - talk 11:12, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
- yeah... I'm not sure they need to be there at all - the question is: does the description about the cause of scatter lead people to expect Panic/SS/Whirling/whatever to cause scatter? If the answer is yes, and we can't fix that by improving the wording (I think we can), then the note is needed, and any skills people would expect to cause scatter should be noted accordingly.
- sorry if this comment is a mess btw - I'm AFK until Thursday, and I'll try to write something sensible then xD Mist Y (talk) 00:06, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
- Okay so on further reflection, this page actually has quite a few things missing. Firstly we need a section about HM melee scattering - I'd copy and paste what's written on the SC wiki, but I don't really understand the rules about copying from other wikis. Then we need to note anomalies like MoP and Dark Aura, which are not second-based DoTs, but do cause scatter for some reason. Once that's done, we can re-visit the wording about skills that might be expected to cause scatter but don't. Mist Y (talk) 12:12, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- If the copyright of that wiki is the same as GWW, I believe it is fine to copy verbatim. But I agree, I started this article quite recently because it didn't exist at all and it needs a lot more input. Ideally it includes expected scattering, unexpected scattering, suggested scattering (that doesn't currently cause scatter), and lack of scattering where it should scatter. I am not as active on the wiki as I once was, mostly because I don't want to run out of control by myself with very limited input from other users. No one likes a wiki dragon. - Infinite - talk 15:26, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
