DPL[edit]
Is there any simple way to sort the trainers by region? -- Gordon Ecker 08:51, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- No, DPL is not able to sort entries in any way, especially not by some text that would need to be included. poke | talk 12:52, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- In that case, I think we should transclude and sort them manually rather than using DPL. -- Gordon Ecker 08:32, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Skill Trainer Question[edit]
- → moved from User talk:Gaile Gray
I am not sure if anyone has noticed this before. But at some skill trainers like the one at the Command Post in Nightfall, certain skills that "shouldn't" be there end up showing up after unlocking in PvP. An example of this is Mystic Regeneration. The trainer doesn't have that skill by default. But I was able to get it there, while my friend wasn't, and only because I had already unlocked it from PvP. Is this by design?--Riceball 01:52, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, and it is called "unlocking" the skill. Once you unlock a skill on your character, you can buy that skill from any skill trainer.--MP47 (talk) 01:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I guess I never took it that far before. While I do get the concept of unlocking a skill mostly, I assumed it just mattered towards using that skill with PvP characters. And that there should be limited impact to PvE characters. I dont recall my characters in Ascalon being able to unlock any Core or Proph skill that you usually only get way later via this method. But maybe I just wasnt paying much attention.--Riceball 02:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- It used to, but then they gave PvE players a break. Changed the cost of each seperate skill so its not a fixed amount. The more skills you buy it increases in amount to a max of 1k now. Each skill used to have its own seperate cost. Ajc2123
- I actually prefered the old method since it promoted the use of Capture Sigs even on regular skills as they had a cost of 500g, which was the minimum skill cost I believe... -- Frozzen 02:26, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yea I miss it. And it used to have a roleplaying feel to it ya know? This guy knows how to do this, and this guy knows how to do this. Plus it was easier on the now harder to get money lol.Ajc2123
- The old method had its annoyances too. In prophecies lots of the skills I wanted weren't available till you get to Marhan's Grotto for example. But then again, it did give a reason to go to Ice Tooth Caves. Sadie2k 04:55, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'd be happy if the Capture Signet was cheaper. Like 50% off regular price. Would make it easier on skill hunter titles too, which is a proof of your ability to take down bosses rather than paying the price of cap sigs. Alaris 05:00, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- /agree to that.. I'd rather have 1/2 price cap sigs than 2x XP for caps. -elviondale (tahlk) 05:28, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Since this was not a "glitch," I took the liberty of amending the subject line, and I will move it to the Skill Trainer page. -- Gaile 20:55, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Small savings?[edit]
If only primary profession skills are counted, completing the Nightfall skill quests saves 10 platinum, completing the Factions skill quests saves 17 platinum, and completing the Prophecies skill quests saves at least 43 platinum. That's pretty significant for a new player. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 09:34, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- By all means, change the wording. I just reworked it to be less awkward and include the skill point savings.--Ceru talk contribs 13:30, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've replaced the paragraph with a series of bullet points outlining the major skill trainer alternatives. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 09:06, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Guild Hall NPC[edit]
Since it's so expensive to buy one, it seems to me that the Guild Hall NPC is a special case that might need some clarification re this line: "They generally offer a standard set of skills in the current campaign in addition to any unlocked non-elite skills on the account." Does that mean that the Guild Hall NPC would offer such skills from any campaign on the account? Basically, does the Guild Hall NPC sell skills for all professions (depending on what you've paid for and then unlocked, of course) or are they limited to core skills only? For example, if a member of your guild only has Prophecies, they can only see and buy Prophecies skills at the Guild Hall, but your Ritualist/Paragon/Assassin/Dervish can get those professions' skills? -- Tekn0mancer talk 22:31, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- From what I know you only get core skills there. poke | talk 08:46, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- You can get core skills only, and I'm told the capture signet. I'm not sure about the cap sig, though. It's probably the least useful of the NPCs, except maybe the weapons crafter. –Jette 09:10, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, that's lame. The only thing that might conceivably be useful would be the cap sig, and it's not even certain they sell that? For the sake of clarity, I'm going to add the word "only" to the Guild Hall NPC's description. Not sure if something should be noted here or not, though. -- Tekn0mancer talk 14:02, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- I've definitely bought cap sigs from mine. --JonTheMon 14:13, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- You can only buy cap sigs from the Skill Trainer if you have finished the quest that unlocks them to buy from other skill trainers on the character. Essentially, you can't just get to the GH and buy one with a level 1 character. At least, that's been my experience with it. --Ceru talk contribs 16:26, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Listings of skills[edit]
Listings of skills: I am currently playing elementalist as my last and 10th class so I probably have 70% of them already unlocked. I came to wiki so that I could knew in advance which skills can be obtained by rewards in order to save money. I only found this page: List_of_skill_quests which makes wiki users double check all skills that are listed and compare it to which skills the NPC of turn is listing for sale. I wandered if we could edit each of these NPC skill lists by adding the quest icon () next to those skills that can be obtained by quests. I think it makes it easier to use wiki if we can just find out which are rewarded by just browsing to an NPC name of turn without cross reference. I can do this myself but asking first just in case... Like this:
== Skills offered ==
Warrior | Ranger | Monk |
---|---|---|
|
|
|
Necromancer | Mesmer | Elementalist |
|
|

- I agree. I spent quite a bit of time looking up skill quests, but saved a ton of money in the process (somewhere around 200 platinum).
- However, I found the process quite involved (and a little boring). It would have been nice to have a list of skills that had quests from which you could get them. Daddicus 19:09, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- List of skill quests. --Silver Edge 19:30, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's the one I used. But in it there are dozens of skills that are duplicated, but you only need them once. I would like to see a list of the SKILLS you can get, kind of like a flip side to that one. Daddicus 22:44, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- There are lists sorted by profession at Skill rewards. --Silver Edge 23:14, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

New section, or extension to notes?[edit]
I think this page needs a list of the three "catch-all" skill trainers: Zendeht (Nightfall), Zenaida (Factions), and Dakk (Prophecies). Each of these guys has all core skills and all skills by all trainers in their respective campaigns.
For experienced players building a younger character, they might want get to each of these trainers to "stock up" on skills they missed earlier in the campaign.
I'm not sure how to word it, though, or whether it deserves a different section, should be under the main "list" section, or something else. So, I'm soliciting ideas. Daddicus 19:15, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
Cost progression[edit]
How exactly does the game track this? I went to buy Signets of Capture on a (Tyrian) character that I could swear has never bought any skills before, and the skill trainer started me off at 70g instead of 50g. I went through the character's list of skills with a fine-toothed comb and the normal ones are all traceable to skill quests (which I made sure to do all of) or EotN hero trainers. I do have two elites already, but I'm sure I capped them with the free signets from the quest. (I went back and checked with Malaquire, and sure enough, he's acting as a skill trainer.) The only possible thing I can think of is that I've crafted two Perfect Salvage Kits with this character, which would only make sense if the game figures out what to charge you for each skill by looking at how many skill points you have vs. how many you should have for that XP total. So is that how it works, or is there another possibility I'm missing? (My IP seems to have changed again but it used to be 67.80.218.108) 24.47.81.244 18:29, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Crafting the Perfect Salvage Kits did not further my skill cost progression. My best bet is that you missed the 2 skills you have purchased from skill trainers before. Did you make sure to check whether some of those skill quest skills are (by any chance) exclusively available with other skill quest skills? Or perhaps you bought 2 secondary profession skills instead? - Infinite - talk 20:56, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Verify how many skill points you have spent by hovering your cursor over the "Skill Points" number box in that character's Hero panel. --Silver Edge 00:01, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
