Talk:Snare (tactic)
Move page[edit]
I'd recommend this be moved to Snare (skill sub-class) or something and give the skill priority. Same with the mesmer's Echo and the paragon skill-type; echo. — Skuld 12:59, 10 February 2007 (PST)
- Moved to snare (tactic) to avoid conflict with snare (skill). Vastly prefer (tactic) over (skill sub-class) given my idea of how this article and the others in the PvP tactics category could someday evolve. (commentary and numbers from actual top PvP players, etc.) Bad? Good? I'm new to formal wiki-ing, so i'm not sure that it's an action I have the authority to take.--Drekmonger 21:11, 10 February 2007 (PST)
Cleanout[edit]
Removed a whackload of skills that are really never used or even considered as snaring. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 23:35, 10 February 2007 (PST)
- I was overzealous when considering whether or not a skill is a snare. However, muddy terrain clearly fits the definition in my mind, I've seen it used as such in HA relic runs etc, so I stuck that one back in.--Drekmonger 03:25, 11 February 2007 (PST)
Movement control vs. snare[edit]
Does using the phrase "incentive to leave the area" truly belong here? I think that does not properly represent the idea of a snare. Snaring, at least the way I see it, is more along the lines of slowing down the progressive movement of an enemy (whether that be through slowing their actual movement through water hexes, crip shot, etc. or through knockdowns such as gale, etc.) in order for you to either kill them, hinder them from killing you, or preventing them from doing their "job". Using the phrase "incentive to leave the area" to me lends more to a seperate idea of movement control, which I envision as forcing a penalty/risk to the enemy if they continue in a direction. Catepults would be an example, or sandstorms. This idea does not seem that viable though as a tatic in pvp.
Clearly snares are movement control (as is body blocking). However, I think we could be a little more exact in our definition of snares. Also, with this in mind (along with the body blocking article), maybe we could introduce a new page dealing with movement control (with references to both snares and bodyblocking as well as maybe other suggestions for movement control). Thoughts? --gladiator 19:34, 20 February 2007 (PST)
- Agreed with your points. We can also reference ian boyd, the master of movement control techniques. Gus 19:49, 20 February 2007 (PST)
- Doesn't that go without saying? I mean, ian boyd invented the art of movement, and he does just by commanding the enemies to stop. --gladiator 21:55, 20 February 2007 (PST)
I think that it 'could' be considered as snaring in some scenarii, for example when blocking stairs or a narrow passage, forcing opponents to either wait or take another route. This effectively slows them from reaching their destination, doesn't it? Daeril 20:34, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Stacking[edit]
Do snares stack down to a minimum movement speed (e.g: Cripple + Ethreal Burden)?
- I also think this should be tried. I was about to say that the lowest speed is taken into account, but given speed boosts can compensate a slowdown, one might think they are additive. Daeril 20:34, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Application by game type[edit]
This section mentions GvG and HA, but not general PvP (e.g. RA, or stuff applicable to multiple areas). For example, snaring enemy melee so they can't hurt you, snaring people to hold them in DoT AoEs, and snaring people so that your melee can catch them. 188.74.101.228 19:26, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Latest edit[edit]
The animation doesn't play on the page anymore for me. Anyone else having this problem? Now it just looks like a redundant restating of the image above it, although it seemed kinda redundant in the first place even with the animation working, admittedly. --[-Kyoshi-]::[-Talk-] 21:56, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- I also noticed that, but I assumed it was just me. I broke it. :( is for Raine, etc. 00:16, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- And, if anything, I think the static image should be removed in favor of the animation. is for Raine, etc. 00:17, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yeh, let me see if I can do this right...I'll remove the screenshot and leave the "frozen" limping animation but label it as a "click to view animation" type thing. That should do fine. --[-Kyoshi-]::[-Talk-] 01:05, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, as you'll see by my edit, I thought the animation belonged better on the Crippled page, whereas the screenshot gives the general idea of a character moving more slowly. I thought that having a single animation on a page that wasn't specifically for the animation's effect felt kind of cluttered. Let me know if you think otherwise. Maybe we could put the animations for both Crippled characters and slow-hexed characters at the top; I'd be glad to whip up another video. --[-Kyoshi-]::[-Talk-] 01:14, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- It looks good on the crippeld page. And for the record wenn I added the animation it was working fine dunno what happend. but the page looks nice the way it is now I think.--Wysth 19:07, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Raine (I think) resized it and it broke. Must have something to do with the wiki, because I've noticed that when I upload pictures whose sizes are reduced to fit somewhere on a page, the animation doesn't run. Not enough expertise on this end to say exactly. I think the page is better without two practially duplicate images anyhow. --[-Kyoshi-]::[-Talk-] 21:15, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Relic Runs[edit]
Were these not removed from HA? -~=Ϛρѧякγ (τѧιк) 00:34, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Animation[edit]
Do we really need to show the cripple animation? I mean, we even say "click here to see the animation," so it's not like people are missing too much without it. --RIDDLE 05:02, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- It adds a nice touch to the top of the page. No real point in removing it either--TahiriVeila 05:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- <sarcasm>We might as well change all the image links to animations on the Dance page too </sarcasm> –alistic 05:08, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- The gif is cool, no reason to remove it--88.14.153.202 15:00, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
