Talk:Swirling Aura
uh, honestly, i'd never expect this to block spell projectiles. o.O why's that note there? it would've been more of an anomaly if it blocked spell projectiles before some update imo. - Y0_ich_halt 18:31, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sum1 felt it was important for all the players using this skill to know.--Renegade 18:48, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's not that renegade, it just for completeness sake that in my opinion, all skills that act ambiguous from the skill description should be tagged with an anomaly-tag. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 18:50, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- This tag is also an effect of the Glyph of Swiftness introduction, which specifically states that magical projectiles will benefit from that skill. A magical projectile = projectile, thus Swirling Aura is ambiguous in it's description, if it doesn't give a 50% block chance to a magical projectile. And I agree, it's not like this is a big issue and only a wording problem, but it should still be documented. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 18:52, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- well, i never experienced any skill able to block spells, so i'd never have thought this could, although it doesn't explicitly say it can't. - Y0_ich_halt 19:10, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Actually this was the oringinal wording because thats what it did. Stone spammers? Fireball? Water Trident? All bowed before the Swirling Aura. Which is why it was nerfed to its now pitiful state. Done25 18:55, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Please don't remove the anomaly-tag.
- When did this skill update happen? Do you remember Done25? I've never used this skill anyway, but perhaps you can recall. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 18:58, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

No disrespect or anything but...is it just me or does this skill make you wonder if the balance team is smoking something during updates? (takke a look at Savage Shot vs Punishing Shot/Glyph of Lesser Energy vs Glyph of Energy/Blood of the Aggressor vs Dark Pact) Done25 00:56, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for that link Done25. Funny thing is, I get the impression the skill was accidentally changed in such a way that magical projectiles were erroneously excluded from being affected. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 01:12, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- That is possible, but I doubt they missed that big of a bug. If only I could find the update... Done25 01:23, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- it's still one of the few ele skills for blocking. would be ok if cost and recharge got buffed. like 5 1 30 - Y0_ich_halt 09:57, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

- This skill never blocked spell projectiles like Fireball, it blocked "magical projectiles" from wands... eventually the description was updated to not be quite so confusing. --Palebluedot 01:26, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- Would like to see this skill get buffed, right now it can be kept up nearly 50% of the time, blocking projectiles isn't even worth a skill slot as long as it only affects yourself. 10 energy is too much, also the recharge makes this skill useless even when its the most useful --Cursed angel 08:49, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe this skill should function like Magnetic Aura, except for projectiles? 75% chance to block, 5e, 1/4s cast, 60s recharge?Arethir 19:11, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- Oh wow, I want Aegis for projectiles now. xD It's not a monk skill, so you can keep it shoddier than Aegis by a fair bit and it's still a reasonable utility skill -- say, "For 4...10...15 seconds, all party members in earshot have a 50% chance to block projectile attacks" 10e 1s cast 40s recharge. Slightly longer-lasting and faster-casting than Aegis so it's not too bad, but long enough recharge and conditional enough that you'd only take it if you couldn't go /Mo. You have to admit, it would get Water Magic back on someone's bar again. >_> (For precedent, I claim Earth - and Water! - wards, even though that is completely ridiculous and unrelated. I'm not 100% serious here). --76.166.187.131 10:26, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- ... Actually, if it were 25% block chance vs. ranged only, 1s cast time and maintainable, it'd be different than Aegis and still cruddy enough for Anet to consider it a water magic spell, but also have some vague sort-of use. If, like, you're running into way too many Barragers on HM. Maybe? But I'll shut up now. --76.166.187.131 10:31, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

lol[edit]
Ive played Guild wars for a looong time now, and just found out this skill exists O.O, this blows! :)
- I disagree. It does well vs rangers that are trying to interrupt you. If a ranger has you targetted, and is going to interrupt you, this skill gives you a chance. I'd prefer a slightly different skill, same duration, but 75% chance to block attack(ranged and melee) skills used against you, but not normal attacks. I actually use this to great effect on my water ele. I'd post the build, but I prefer to keep my ownage to myself. I'd hate to get killed by my own build. StatMan 04:09, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

10 ½ 30 Enchantment Spell: For 1...16...20 seconds, you are enchanted with Swirling Aura, while enchanted all attacks have a 15...39...45% chance to miss. That way you could easily make it fairly close to maintainable(6second downtime with enchant mod and 15 Water Magic) and also reduced the cast time and changed the mechanic to miss for all attacks, good self defense but not all that reliable and can be easily stripped, just like every other enchantment. - This skill was unanimously voted by myself and a few friends to be the worst skill in all of Guild Wars ;) Astralphoenix777 01:04, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

- Rt/P or P/Rt with incoming/fallback/TNTF. It actually has a use, as obscure as that one is. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.245.147.55 (talk).
Finally[edit]
Finally after years of complaining of this skill being inferior to similar skills in every other class, they update this skill... after I largely stopped playing GW1 for GW2. Sigh. --Falseprophet 18:24, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
