Talk:Upgrade component
While the information provided is definitely useful, there are questions that are not asked or answered and the phrasing of at least one answer could be clearer.

What happens if multiple upgrades are applied?[edit]
While there are two upgrade slots, one prefix and one suffix, I got the vague impression here that there might be more than one upgrade in a slots. (It's late and my mind is a bit fuzzy, but that only means that someone else in a similar condition might also be confused.)
Also, I started putting a second pommel on a sword (Pre-searing) and the tentative result was to replace the pommel, not an error saying that the slot was already in use. Which raises another question - If I had completed the upgrade, what would have happened to the original pommel?

- My Daughter, who has been playing longer than I have, effectively said (I am summarizing) that putting a second item in a slot destroys what was originally in the slot. Mtew 15:04, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Your daughter is correct. The original upgrade is overwritten with the new upgrade (assuming they are both for the same slot) and the original upgrade is lost. You can, however, salvage the original item off using one of the various |Salvage Kits bought from a Merchant. Careful though, this may destroy the item (sword) that the upgrade is on. - If you really want to change the upgrade without destroying the old one, you can try to get your hands on a Perfect Salvage Kit, which will let you salvage the old upgrade without destroying the item. Biscuits 21:26, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Removal of an upgrade?[edit]
The categorical statement that you can not remove an upgrade may well be incorrect. An expert salvage kit will remove an upgrade, but at considerable risk.

The item about identification is fuzzy.[edit]
The discussion of identifying an item before selling it to a merchant confuses me slightly. Are you taling about identifying an 'unidentified' is always worth doing? Or are you saying that salvaging an upgrade on a (relatively) cheap item is worth doing?
Maybe a specific example would help.

- Identifying any unidentified equipable item will increase its sale value. This applies to any equipable item without a price listed when you hover over it, including white items that don't have the "unidentified" description. See Identification for more info. Figuring out what upgrades are on an item?[edit]
Would a note that an expert salvage kit can be used to display how an item has been upgraded WITHOUT using a charge from the kit be a useful addition? Mtew 07:58, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- It's not really necessary, since you can tell all upgrades by looking at the item name and stats, without using an salvage kit. Biscuits 08:36, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- True, you can deduce the name and statistics of the upgrade from the name, but there are a few things, like what the detached image of the upgrade looks like, that this reveals. There should also be a warning that the item will be salvaged as with a normal salvage kit if there is not an upgrade on the item.
- Hmm, I just realized that I am not quite sure what constitutes a prefix. For example is the "Ascalon" in "Ascalon Bow" a prefix? It looks like one. How abour "Recurve" in "Recurve Bow"? Mtew 14:30, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- No, those are just the names of the weapons. The prefix is a word from a distict set exclusive to upgrades, which tells you which upgrade is on the weapon. See List_of_weapon_upgrades#Prefix_bonuses for a comprehensive list. Biscuits 21:30, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Upgrades are specific to the weapons[edit]
I wasn't aware until tonight that weapon upgrades are weapon specific as well. A "of Fortitude" suffix taken from a bow can only be placed on a bow? Is this true? Wenin
- Well, the weapon upgrade you are talking about is a 'Bow Grip of Fortitude'. So, it makes sense you can only use the Bow Grip on a bow...--Arduin 13:33, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Upgrade Component Shop for PVE[edit]
This is a long time comeing we need a shop that sells components. The act of purchaseing such and item will not unlock it on your account ofcourse. Actually this should be a service provided by all Weaponsmiths in the game. Liveing off the land or trying to buy the components from other players is Time Consumeing and Unreliable at Best.107.62.65.224 05:10, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Max upgrades per item rarity[edit]
Am I correct in saying that the different rarity's have their own 'max' upgrade ratings? eg, an unid blue rarity staff has the possibility to have an 'of enchanting' mod on it but will only have a chance of it being 10-15% whereas a gold rarity will have the chance of a 18-20% mod. or am I chatting complete b@!!@(£s? FardaleFeedback
- There's a range for each color. For 10-20% mods, this is very noticeable. For other mods (e.g. +4-5), not so much.
- For armor salvage pieces, I actually prefer getting blues (chance of Survivor and Vitae) over grapes (25g insignia, 25g runes). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:22, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
- I NEVER merch blue armour. ppl either want a free (no health loss) stat boost -> blue, or max attributes -> gold, so I ID blue and gold armours for the runes, merch blue + grape weapons + grape armours, and player sell all other golds.
- Any idea on the fixed ranges for the different rarity weapons? I might start saving some weapons... FardaleFeedback
Can Armor Upgrade Components work on a Secondary Profession?[edit]
For example, can a Secondary Warrior use Knight's Insignia on his armor? --175.145.235.245 21:19, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
