Talk:Whirlwind Attack
What ranks are the progression for? Arkhar 03:27, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- See Talk:Sunspear rank for research. - BeX 05:22, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Wasn't sure where to add this, but I have rank 9 sunspear on my warrior and it does +19 damage, not +18. I don't know how to change the table, nor do I really feel like messing with it, but I just thought I'd put that information out there. Dagger Wagger 05:13, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- I added to the noted section. — ク Eloc 貢 05:36, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- The table is pretty much useless if it doesn't show the correct values and no one expects the correct values to be in the notes. It would be cool if someone who knows how could fix this. LunarEffect 01:37, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Corrected by creating a modified Rank 10 skill template that allowed explicitly setting r8 and r9, the note has been removed.
Needs buffed?[edit]
This skill is just a little bit more powerful then cyclone axe. It needs a massive buff. like 2-3 adrenlin. or +30-40 dmg.
- Why? It is basically twice as good as cyclone axe and does not need a buff. Besides, it's not an elite skill so why buff it? 30-40 damage would make it as powerful triple chop, an elite, and making it 2 or 3 adrenaline would make it better than whirling axe, another elite. --Torak321 04:43, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think his/her point is that other PvE skills are at least as powerful as elite skills without being elites, if not even more. See e.g. There's Nothing to Fear or Seed of Life. -- Jonas N 09:13, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Making it at very least Triple Chop equivalent would do, otherwise its not worth 6 adrenaline or PvE only status. Biz 12:22, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know, it seems to me (i haven't tested it) but this is not tied to a weapon, just a melee weapon. So an assassin or dervish could use this to some benefit, no? As a scythe wielder, if there are multiple foes in front, this skill could be used almost every second...almost. What I'd like to know, is if a scythe wielder uses it on say, 3 foes that are in the "normal" range of a scythe (so that it hits all 3), and then the scythe wield uses this skill, would it hit all 3 twice? or just once. I ask because skills like Reaper's Sweep say target foe, but will actually affect any foe that is hit and meets the condition for deep wound. umph 14:23, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- No, you only hit each target once when you use it with a scythe. One nice thing about Whirlwind Attack is that it doesn't drain the Warrior's small, slow-recharging energy pool. It's also the only non-elite multi-target attack that works with a sword, and the only other multi-target attack that works with a hammer is the unreliable Crude Swing. -- Gordon Ecker 02:52, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

if your going 4 a aoe axe warrior then this skill is realy good...you now have 3!!aoe's and dont forget any adrenal cost is neogated when causeing aoe as it will prity much fully recharge on the next aoe lol(and thats a combo of 3 which is the norm for most builds)-dont nirf and dont buff lol i like this skill....just think, Cyclone Axe->Triple Chop->Whirlwind Attack<-->Save Yourselves!....thats a prity powerfull combo in its self
- It doesn't need a buff as it works with any melee weapon, so use it with Scythes or something. — ク Eloc 貢 02:41, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes it does. Should be imba, its PvE. Raptaz 14:01, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- What about it needs a buff? it does a decent amount of damage to all adjacent foes for a decent amount of adrenaline. Compare that to Cyclone Axe, which very rapidly depletes the 20-30 energy pool and does little, no more, or even less damage at certain levels. Not to mention it is, like Gordon said, the only multiple target sword skill that isn't a completely useless elite. Same situation for hammers, minus Yeti Smash (which technically isn't multiple hit) and Crude Swing (which, while fixed to be not easily interrupted, still leaves you with less armor, a sort of necessity for warriors). Last thing this skill needs is a buff. There's a reason there's no other multi-target attack for swords. When used with Hundred Blades, it attacks each foe and you cause as many HB proc's as there are foes around you. E.g., when I hit HB and there are two creatures around me, I cause 3 total hits with each attack, one from the regular attack and one each for HB. When I then hit S&MS, it causes 6 total hits, 2 from the attacks and one HB hit per foe for each S&MS attack. Yet I also get 6 hits when I use this skill, because it attacks each, so you have the two attacks, and then 2 procs each. If this were buffed in damage or in adrenaline, being a sword warrior in PvE would just be too broken.
- Yeah and the more foes there are, the more the hits (and it increases by more too). With 3 foes, 3 attacks and then 3 HB hits each (that's 9), or 12 "hits" in total. Effectively you do a normaly attack on each foe, but then with HB you do as many hits to each foe as there are foes (or the number of foes squared) as well. Since HB does 20-25 damage with a high (12+) Sword Mastery, you'd only need 5 enemies around you to do over 500 damage (it would be 500 even with 10 SM) to all of them, plus your normal sword hit! Of course, that's not armour-ignoring, but for two skills it's pretty awesome. Think if you had 10 enemies near you - even with 10 SM against foes with 100 armour you'd be doing 1000 damage to each of them! 82.3.249.58 12:54, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

So I guess they really intend to keep this ugly-ass icon, I would have thought that after more than a year they would get the hint and revert it to the old one but I guess they're too busy nerfing stuff to spend 2 seconds on something like this. The icon is the only reason I'm not using this skill... Keneth 19:57, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Notes[edit]
In the notes section there is a note that does not seem to belong. At rank 9 sunspear, it does +19 damage, not +18. If this is so then the table needs correction, if not then the note should probably be removed or better explained. 216.173.174.126 19:56, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
And im at r6 and my skill does +16 damage, not +14
Scythes[edit]
I'm curious. Does anyone happen to know that, because it states that you attack target and all adjacent opponents, would a scythe attack each opponent, plus two additional? If this were to be the reality, I imagine combining this with OoP and Mark of Pain could be really quite broken. 99.141.192.117 22:02, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- No, each target is only attacked once. -- Gordon Ecker 04:37, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- So none of the natural scythe AoE on each hit? I'd say it's lame, but it's probably for the best. If that wasn't the case, I could only fear the idea of Whirlwind Attack once in the middle of a group of trolls. 99.141.192.117 22:23, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

About the notes?[edit]
Pardon me for still not understanding this. How is it that the 1 second recharge prevents one from taking advantage of an adrenaline gain? If you are surrounded by six enemy, Whirlwind Attack would give you six "strikes" of adrenaline, refilling Whirlwind Attack's adrenaline requirement entirely, right? In which case you would be able to spam this skill again, after one second, right? I mean I guess a 1 second recharge makes it a slow spam, not to mention the odds of being surrounded by six guys to get all the required adrenaline in one hit are slim, but how is it that "The 1 second recharge means this skill does not benefit from the adrenaline it generates." as mentioned in the notes? I apologize in advance for the ignorance. PegasusHoplite28 06:36, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Just in an attempt to clarify myself a little better, I just wanted to make sure that each hit Whirlwind Attack actually does hit still gives one strike of adrenaline (and if one is using a zealous weapon, one energy per hit as well). And I was also wondering if each strike of adrenaline gained goes to refilling Whirlwind Attack's adrenaline requirements, or only fills up the adrenaline requirements of other adrenaline skills. PegasusHoplite28 15:20, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Recharging skills can't get any adrenaline, so just the other skills. Impaled 15:28, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Daggers[edit]
Presumably, if you used this with daggers, every attack would have a chance to double strike. Can anybody verify if this is the case? 82.3.249.58 12:55, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Whoever did the trivia[edit]
Might want to reconsider the mention of Diablo and WC2 and WoW, because 1, those are not the only games with Whirlwind in it, and 2, the WC2 Whirlwind was a tornado that dealt damage over a small area that randomly traveled(3-4 of those in an enemy base wreaked havoc! Good times). Regardless, the note should probably be changed to say, "many games" or at least add that on as well as removing the WC2 spell. Weaponmaster 07:14, 13 September 2009 (UTC). The last dot point is unneeded clutter, as DnD was the first to implement it, and that is where they derived it from. 218.214.2.29 20:16, 25 September 2009 (UTC) This is actually something present in 2D games from The Legend of Zelda series, as far back as A Link to the Past from 1991. It's been in all manner of games with swordplay over the last 30+ years. I'm unsure how to go about deciding what should go into the Trivia section (if anything), but it well predates 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons (released in 2000). 68.49.109.4 13:55, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
