Hats[edit]

Who wants four again this year? Last year seemed anticlimactic with only two. Granted, quality beats quantity, but 2006's hats were better also. --ennui 17:15, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Who knows, they could possibly do one set of hats. UserDrago-sig.gif Drago 23:15, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
IMO we should just redirect to Wintersday for now. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 23:57, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

And Counting!.... Btw, either way, I hope eveyone has a wonderful time at this years Wintersday Celebration. MystiLefemEle 11:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Hopefully they will focus on the quality of these hats rather than quantity. I didn't even bother with the ones from Halloween they were so awful. User Foxysheri sig.png Foxysheri 18:49, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
I hope you meant the wintersday 2007 hats.--DAVAUser Dav Tick green.png 17:42, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
There will be two hats. One of them looks like a reindeer mask with tiny horns and a red nose. The other consists of a red crown, a green cap with dark green stripes and odd green ears. --numma_cway 15:25, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm guessing you found it in the dat? --King Of Kamelott Talk Page 01:33, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
Well that would be the only source right now i think or he made it up. I don't mean he made this up but it's an option because this can't be 100% sure, ye know. - JoPeUser Jope12 sigicon.pngTalk 11:55, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
And i hope anet doesn't make the same mistake ever again in any event by making 4 hats available like at Wintersday 2006. Think about it: it takes ATLEAST 12 hours to get all 4! That's insane! - J.P.User Jope12 sigicon.pngTalk 12:14, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
No, only 6 hours. Like in 2007 Kamadan finale will be 15minutes after the LA finale.- TheRave talk (talk) 12:55, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Monster Drops[edit]

Doubt it if monsters drop Winter Gifts instead of CCS's this year. I'd loved Halloween, Special Treats Weekend and Pirate Day. Robert Batchelor 16:54, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes they are dropping more than CC Shards... MystiLefemEle 06:26, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Special surprise[edit]

u need to do 4 quests when winterday is coming and if u did them u will have Special surprise at Gwens garden what is it will be u think?

Either a holiday weapon or some odd consumable/summoning stone. --King Of Kamelott 20:56, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
It's a damn jingle bear that you cannot even tame....WTH!!!!76.4.185.160 21:04, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I like the jingle bear,I don't like the idea it's not charmable, involved in something else(or is it...?)...could we get more explanation please?

It was a bug. You can now charm the jinlgle bear. It does not become hostile while you charm it. It satarts at level 5 and I am not sure if it grows, but I doubt it. --CAJOS talk 00:26, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

NEW GAME!!!![edit]

everyone know how to play tag. How this games goes u can't have anythign in your hands to go in. Free for all and its 2.5minutes long. You have the following skills: dash,Side Step,"I Am Unstoppable!","You Move Like a Dwarf!",(New skill) !RANDOM Taunt!,I Will Survive!,(New skill) Here take this.

New skills that do what?

Here take this (hands off flag) 1/4 activation time touch spell

Randome taunt (says a random saying that makes fun of someone)like (Try and catch me slow poke) recharge 30 seconds

Elites War:"You're All Alone!"

Rang:Escape

Monk:Mark of Protection (but prevents next enemy skill used on you)

mes:Fevered Dreams

ele:Gust (just knowns them down)

Nec:Weaken Knees

Der: Vow of Silence (you can't be touched for around 3 seconds recharge then is 30)

sin: Palm Strike

Rit: Wanderlust

Par: "Incoming!"

Ok here is the break down u and 4 others are all trying to not get tag der.

Everyone has a flag and whoever gets taged first gets the flag all other Vanquishes. every 30 second whoever has the flag dies and loses simple right. NOPE it restarts the flags it will then say round 2 and repeats of cours numbers go up.

Every time u get passed a round you get 5 gamer points and 1 shard or something. Plus 50 b faction.

Winner gets 100 b faction at the end. Plus 10 shards.

Finally make it a small area like the norn 1 vs 1 but have 5 places to enter.

PLZ LISTEN!--The-Big-Cheese 22:47, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Pardon me sir but what the hell are you talking about? --King Of Kamelott 01:32, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to have to agree with King Of Kamelott on this subject. Please clarify. Are you suggesting a Wintersday event? If you are, I think you may want to reconsider where this idea is posted. --Apocalypse Riser Talk 01:16, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Need Clarification on Snowball ATS[edit]

I've started to put together a list of people to form a guild for the new Snowball ATS, and I'd like a few clarifications if possible.

  • Do we even need a guild?
  • Do guild members need to be in the guild for so long before the tournament begins?
  • What is required to enter the tournament (# of guild members, guests, etc; tournament tokens)?
  • Will this function similarly to the current ATS: play rounds for qualifier points and then play in an end-of-season tournament?
  • What kinds of rewards can we expect per win? Will there be Gamer points or not?

I've never actually run a guild or participated in an ATS before, so if general rules apply, point those out. Otherwise, "ATS-style" sounds like it leaves room for differences between this and the true ATS. Shayne Hawke 01:19, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure, actually. Perhaps you could ask this at the game question area? Your question might see a little more traffic there. MiraLantis 08:10, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Looks more like a general-question-about-the-general-game area there. If I don't get a response in a day or two here, I'll consider asking on Regina's page. Shayne Hawke 22:58, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

New Game?![edit]

I don't sure if it means to official game, but "In Lion's Arch, Kamadan, Droknar's Forge, and Ascalon City, you can try your hand at distributing gifts to the children, or if you're feeling grentch-y, you can try to destroy the gifts before the children get them", it can be that there is new game?--Itay Alon 06:53, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

No, this is where you pick up gifts and run them to the children before the grentches catch you. It's a repeat. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 08:02, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
The second part of the quote sounds as if you can turn into a grench and destroy other players that are running with the gift? Unless i'm mistaken. >< ♥LadyTemp♥ 03:42, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

2 items[edit]

  1. Anet, why not make this event like 3 day? Would make it more usual for European players to get all 2-4 hats.
I'm removing the uncertain banner at the top. Had an in-game convo with Gaile, and it's going on what-so-ever. If you undo it, please say why ;)--DAVAUser Dav Tick green.png 20:11, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Main reason for it being that the event hasn't begun yet. Things may go buggy from now until the release, and we don't really document "what will be", but "what is or what happened". With the notice above, people can't blame us if something doesn't go as planned :).--Fighterdoken 20:24, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Ah, ok. Thanks.--DAVAUser Dav Tick green.png 05:31, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

I personally think a miniature would be enough to make me happy, yeah the Canthan new years minis have sucked, but i certainly think that a Wintersday based mini would be great, considering Wintersday is my favorite Guild Wars holiday. Forever Heroic 23:24, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
What if it is a summoning stone like the fire imp? (you can use it more than once)-- Shew 18:16, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
What if it was more like a pet. Moa's were common in pre. A Wintersday Moa would be nifty. :D
What if it's a static jingle bear that stands there and is pointless? THAT WOULD BE AWESOME....oh, wait....no it wouldn't. GG anet. You're always good at getting my hopes up and then mercilessly dashing them away. 75.61.32.166 21:28, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
In Gwen's Garden discussion page someone said (quoting Regina) that the Jingle Bear should be a charmable pet and that anet is trying to fix the current bug that prevents this from happening. Now this is a nice surprise, but it would be even nicer if you could get a statue to the Hall of Monuments for that pet (when it has eveolved to lvl20). Now as the Rainbow Phoenix didnt get its own statue, the chance for this to happen is very small but we can always wish, atleast in wintersday.88.192.89.77 22:02, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
It was *never* going to be a mini, they made the mistake of making the pig too easy to get before and then annoyed a lot of players when they attempted to fix that, why would they repeat that? I was thinking more along the lines of an everlasting tonic as well.. But I was quite happy when I saw it was a unique Ranger pet (until I found I couldn't charm it, but that's been fixed)92.23.89.153 12:46, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

So Ascalon has been freed?[edit]

Gwen says "The Ebon Vanguard will fight until Ascalon is free!" as one of her battle quotes, but most of the Vanguard is going to be off-duty for Wintersday. Surely the Ebon Vanguard didn't just lose their zeal, so I'm going to guess that their celebration will involve the slaughter of Charr. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 04:05, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

NPCs got Losted[edit]

The "Holiday Rewards" table[edit]

Shouldnt the Miniature Polar Bear be listed here as well? No matter how miniscule the chances of getting one are, it can only be obtained during Wintersday, thus making it a Holiday Reward. BenderRodriguez 12:58, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

A Wintersday Guild?[edit]

I had a thought...you know how there are alliances and guilds that help districts meet all the criteria for holidays like the Canthan New Year? Why not make a guild that has a Wintersday theme that gets Wintersday presents to hand out to people on the finale, or have a "Christmas in Cantha" event? I still remember when the Myst alliance did that for one of the districts last New Year.

I think it's a good idea and a good way to give to the community. Of course, we wouldn't JUST give out presents, we'd hand out nog, fruitcake, and everything else Wintersday related! So, for those of you who think this is a good idea and you'd like to try, contact me in-game. My Main Character is Taka Ragranok. - Taka Ragranok

Happy Wintersday everyone!

Also, you can leave a message here and I'll send you an invite. Please join this, everyone, we wanna make this Wintersday a grand Wintersday for Guild Wars! I'll be stopping in on this topic fairly often today. Cheers! - Taka Ragranok

do you think there will be a collector for festival hats at the end? like they did for the dragon festival. Because i won't be around on jan 1 but i still want to get the hats--24.89.222.85 15:12, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

I guess not. They will put it into ur inventory in the final if you supported the right god as every year. User:Erz
So the cold fact is that if you aren't in-game during finale, you can't get any festival gear - JoPeUser Jope12 sigicon.pngTalk 07:24, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
As has been pointed out on many event conversations, the hats are to commemorate your participation in the finale event. If you aren't able to participate in any of the 8 scheduled finales, then you have nothing to commemorate. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 15:34, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
But they got Festival Hat Maker last year selling both 2 hats after finale. Was it because that server drawback on the 1 of the 8 schedules? - J.P.User Jope12 sigicon.pngTalk 12:01, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Last year we got two hats. The year before, we had four hats. I'm hoping that we will see 4 hats again this year although it is doubtful. Does anyone know if there will be any headgear for the event available at the EOTN in exchange for some number of holiday collectables? 24.188.207.20 04:05, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Hats are commemorative items for finale events. I would highly doubt that you will be able to get a hat in any way other than attending a finale event in either Lion's Arch or Kamdan. The only exception to this is the Dragon Festival where people can trade victory tokens for a mask after the finale is over. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn/talk 04:48, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Bugger, wiki site won't allow image uploades (notes say broken till IT gets back from holiday and fixes it). Ah well, unofficial wiki has images if you are looking. Yamagawa 18:38, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Staggered Events?[edit]

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not the events this year will be staggered between LA and Kamadan like they were last year--Where the Kamadan finale starts 15 minutes after LA's? User:Harem 19:49, 31 December 2008

It has been confirmed on the offial site there will be a 15 minute delay for Kamadan. Hope this helps.--DAVAUser Dav Tick green.png 21:49, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Why does it seem nowdays that so many ppl just go here without bothering to read what's on the page... - J.P.User Jope12 sigicon.pngTalk 09:05, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Sick of people telling me which time to use[edit]

The list of finale events every 3 hours just had to be in 24 hour format for GMT. It makes more sense to either both use 24h or both use 12h. I personally prefer 12h. It is not much of a big deal but still, it would make so much more sense to keep both times in one format then have them in different formats. (Just like my iPhone. Forced to use 24h because i am from UK. luckily that is fixed). At least have them in both formats or have them for every single time zone in only 1 format.

As i said it is not much of a big deal but i am kind of fed up of people choosing what i should use for me. 82.13.34.49 10:35, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

We does it before in other holidays, so i don't think that it so bad...
maybe if GWW do something that let people changing the format, but for now i think that it's ok. --Itay Alon 15:56, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
@82.13.34.59 - You are free to create your own time table in your userspace (once you have registered) using whatever format you wish. The mainspace articles are done in 12hr format, listing Pacific and UTC (GMT) time. "i am kind of fed up of people choosing what i should use for me" Yet you are trying to dictate to the entire community that they have to do it your way. Wintersday Nine Rings[edit]

I'm suprised there is no page for this, just a reference to "similar to nine rings". Does anyone know the full odds and rewards? Should there be a seperate page for this game? Fay Vert 16:59, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

It's really not worth the effort. One char stood in the corner in Kamadan for each event; 86 Unlucky, 158 Lucky. If next year the shard 'cost' was raised by 10x or more then it may be worth it. No real affect on the title track as it is. Aro 09:10, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
I was just suprised to see no information on it. I know that if your square is picked you win shards and a present, and some shards if adjacent. I also note that most people stand on centre, but is this the best place to stand or just people being sheep? I came to wiki to find out but no info. I wasn't remotely interested in lucky title, don't presume to judge the value of information. Fay Vert 21:29, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
It works the same way as nine rings, folks can check on that page. Only diff is corner ring get +5 for a win, middle gets +3, side-center not sure, and it's a constant 1 cost/1 loss. Get more points using a lockpick you just found on the ground, more so with a second free lockpick via quest. Does not seem like the value is high to you as I've not seen a page started. Aro 04:02, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
You get 3 at the center, 4 at the side, 5 at a corner for a win. 2 if you stand at an adjacent ring. This version of Nine Rings favors the middle unlike during Boardwalk. -Khan Reaper Kerensky 08:53, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Notes[edit]

It says CAUTION: There have been reports of various districts in Kamadan completely missing the finale at scheduled times. As far as can be observed, this has not happened for Lion's Arch. it did happen to me in district 97 in Lion's Arch at midnight so i am changing note. Nekozick 14:21, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

This is normal, it happens for all districts created after start of event. --King Of Kamelott Talk Page 23:24, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes. Apparently, the event doesn't start for districts that were created within five minutes of the scheduled start. I can't confirm the time frame as this has never happened to me, but it did happen to some of my alliance peeps before. Robert Batchelor 03:38, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Kamadan Favored[edit]

Its interesting that I get more presents while in Kamadan than in Lion's Arch. Anyone else seeing this? Retro77 05:39, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

You get 15 presents after you get the hat, one after each minute, i think. This is the same in both Kamadan and LA, it was for me. - J.P.User Jope12 sigicon.pngTalk 10:06, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Funny but my other half got 12 - 15 presents in an even district (D6) in Lions Arch while I got 25 - 27 also an even district (D8) in Lions Arch, we were both in the middle circle. I looked at when they were given out, during the 'contest' or after when they drop in your inventory and almost all were when they were dropped. Not sure why the difference but if anyone can figure it out then please let me know. Just curious if anyone else noticed this or not. Chris 69.54.220.18 16:56, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Wintersday Finale Table[edit]

It was more than once, people float it to right, because there is a space. This is not a fun site, or a picture site, this is a wiki, so we needn't float some objects because spaces, but you may add some pictures, it will be nice and we really need some images here. More over, "this is better use of space" it's opinion, and like wyn "Yet you are trying to dictate to the entire community that they have to do it your way. Don't be a hypocrite.". --Itay Alon 14:09, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Winner?[edit]

Who won this year?? Grenth or Dwayna? And, if Grenth won, how much longer will wintersday become?Kyahaha 23:46, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Neither, the different victories are only temporary for each district. --King Of Kamelott Talk Page 00:13, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I think last year, Grenth was declared the overall winner (whether he won in more districts or more total points, I'm not sure), and Wintersday was extended, if I recall correctly. -- Lord Ehzed 02:29, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
